This is a great interview, Prince and The Revolution became a huge part of my life in my early teen years and still is a part of my life today. I am so grateful I got to see the Revolution in 2019 and Princes last concert in 2016 in Oakland Ca, went on a whim and so glad was such a unique concert experience with him just with his piano. I was into Prince before he got really famous too so its been a wonderful journey watching all of these musicians he worked with over the years, so wonderful to hear Lisa talk about what they were going through. There were purple areas lit up in San Francisco bay area too and it was amazing the honoring of Prince and it was like his essence was being spread out all over the world in those beautiful purple places! I felt the energy getting intense with Prince at the end of his life maybe feeling him pushing himself too much and like Lisa says he needed rest, so true!!!! He really never stopped. I love that Lisa created Mountains and it was a song he worked with on Parade. That soundtrack is really beautiful too.

With all of the nonsense about Prince on RUclips right now, this was SO REFRESHING! She answered all of the questions, gave details and didn't try to evade! The ONE PROBLEM I have with this fantastic interview: you did not ask her about the song, "Song About"! As Prince fans, we all know that the song is about Prince and was written decades ago, but, when I listen to the song NOW, it gives me CHILLS! I would have loved to hear her talk about that in this setting. Thanks Scott and Lisa, this was one of the best Prince related interviews that I've ever seen!

      @KayBee -
A lot of it has to do with legal reasons. Everyone before the New Power Generation are not under a confidentiality order. The last person to have worked with Prince and not have had that stipulation in their contract is Matt Fink. (you can also count Shelia E because she had continued to work with him from time to time). Everyone else has to be careful with what they say, because Prince's estate can seek legal action if they choose.
Wendy alluded to it in passing in an interview maybe 10 years ago. It was an interview done by both Wendy and Lisa talking about Prince and his lawyers were asking both to stop talking about him via threats of cease and dismiss orders. Wendy basically said she blew him off and would do another interview and purposely talk about him out of spite. None of the member of The Time are under that stipulation either and it's normally Jesse and Terry who are less reserved about only saying nice things about Prince.

Is this the lyrics to that song?
      Song About
      Wendy & Lisa
It makes me want to cry
      Thinking about you
      "Beautiful" you said
The way you shook your head
So strange, that no one stayed
At the end of the parade
This is just another song about it
This is just another song about
      Standing next to me
      Imagine that it's true
      You where singing songs
      About life or doom
I was singing songs to you
This is just another song about it
This is just another song about
      I gave colors to you
      You washed my heart
      With many dreams
      Dreams I'd never seen
      The pain of my spirit
      The pain of my heart
      Don't ever tell me
      To let it all go

I think it's a lot easier to grasp and appreciate someone's contributions after they're gone. What they give is easier to discuss when they're not here listening or adding their perspective answering questions or whatever. It's not as consequential to be honest about what we think. It doesn't seem like sucking up the way it would if they could hear you or eventually would.

This was great to see a long form interview with Lisa. As one of the quieter members in the group interviews I never got to hear much from her but what a lovely person. i've always loved her keyboard parts and voice in Wendy & Lisa and the Revolution so its great to get to know a bit more. I didn't know mountains was mainly written by her. Its always been my favorite track from Parade alongside Kiss. I was surprised she didn't think Waterfall was a hit. It wasn't a huge smash but i definitely remember it getting some rotation on MTV and radio. i still love the song. I don't remember Are You My Baby? being played at all eventhough it was also a great single. I just remember it being released when i walked into my local record store.

21:56 = the truth and I'm grateful she & The Revolution understand that and feel it from the crowds. I was hesitant in seeing them without him since the only time I saw them was with him, but I'm so glad I did go to see The Revolution a couple of years ago. They were so great and kept it authentic & true to the original sound (which she mentions), it was somewhat healing. Re: lead vocals, I think they do great on their own, just them, mostly Wendy, her & BrownMark is actually pretty good on vocals & with the crowd (which she also mentions).

There are so many stories of record company executives making bad marketing decisions that have ruined great artists!!! Pop music has been transformed from writing great songs to crafting hit songs. It's too bad that she had to go through a painful breakup with Prince. Unfortunately, the greatest tributes are paid to people after they die. Lisa gave some very revealing insights about playing for and writing with a true musical genius! Thank you Scott for yet another great interview!

The song was "Are You My Baby" and "Lolly Lolly" they performed on Soul Train. I like how they were overwhelmed to be there. Don asked them some poignant questions. Nice that he had them on. Because, Prince at that point never performed on the show. I wished he did back in the days when he had I Wanna Be Your Lover on the market. Or even Soft and Wet. but he was adamant about not wanting to be the typical R&B Singer. When he performed finally on Soul Train, Mr. Cornelius already stop hosting. "Lolly Lolly" was funky. The Soul Train Dancers was supportive. You see they were like. We are actually here.

The influence of Miles Davis working with a new band at certain points didn't help Prince keep Wendy and Lisa. Smh. Choosing sides after the breakup of him and Suzanne makes sense though. Absolutely Wonderful Interview, I've been waiting for decades for an interview with Lisa Coleman.
I always thought that Lisa was extremely attractive, I totally loved the fit and finish of her work and Prince seemed to have Jill sing backup on songs in lieu of Lisa and it was always very difficult for me to tell their voices apart.
For me, the big question that absolutely no one ever asks any long time associates of Prince is, "Do you think that Prince was mentally ill?"
I was married to a Japanese woman for 23 years and for 12 of those 23 years I dealt with her extremely taxing Multiple Personality Disorder / Disassociative Identity Disorder and many of the stories that people who worked with Prince, even when they were junior high school student band members, remind me so much of her being very different personalities literally every time that I saw her.

This show is about the guest artists and the creative process of making unforgettable music, not the host's cult of personality. Those with an attention span appreciate the depth of knowledge and respect evident in the questions, and relaxed, positive atmosphere that encourages and allows guests to freely open up with uninterrupted candor. Try watching a few episodes and hopefully you will better get it, after being bombarded with what else might be out there. It's like adjusting to fine wine or cuisine after a steady diet of overpowering fast food. At the end of the day, there is no show like this one with the substance, sensitivity and insights that are provided.
