- How to paint a Dot Mandala on a 6x6 Inch Canvas - Video 376 - Sue Sloan
This is step by step directions on how I created this mandala.
In each tutorial I hold up a number this number is the TOOL number. If you need the millimeter size for each tool you can find a chart on my website that lists them for you here: lovetocolor.co...
I use DIY Mandala Dotting tools these are the numbers I'm holding up in the video along with the colors I'm using.
You can find a link below if you would like to purchase the tools.
If you like my work please like, comment and/ or subscribe. It’s nice to know others views on what I’m creating!

Your RUclips videos are the best. Your camera work is excellent. I could only wish that you might add some talk-over to explain your process from initial planning to making decisions along the way. I am an avid dotter and look for your work always. -- Bill in New Mexico
Hi Bill thanks so much for commenting. To be honest I do not really plan it out. I just randomly make lines, but add them symmetrically around. I just try to make them different each time so where I’m basing my dots end up different. Then I’ll usually make a bigger dot (somewhere the lines dissect each other) and base smaller ones around it. Then depending on how it looks I may fill in more with swoops.
I may try to explain better in a future video but normally I have no plan. I know it looks like I do but I edit all the time I sit there contemplating what I want to do next out.
But really all I do is base dots off dots as I go. I also make sure every color is used in at least two spots in the design. If you don’t that color will look out of place. That doesn’t mean you can’t use it more though.
I don’t know if this will help you at all or not. I appreciate you commenting. And watching. 😀
Excelente trabajo, quiero hacerlo y voy a entrar varias veces para seguir bien todo el trabajo. Gracias
lol...found myself saying outloud...wait Sue, don't switch colors yet, you missed a section....whew, good thing you heard me 😉
I seen lol
I kept saying "Wait wait wait" too! My poor dog sat patiently waiting for a cookie, but I wasn't talking to him 🤣🤣

May I ask what you use to draw the lines? I have such a hard time erasing my lines 😪
It’s a Generals chalk pencil very cheap can get them on Amazon, really all over. I bought mine at Blicks art supply last time.
They come off easily with water just don’t push hard when making your lines be soft handed with it.
I do occasionally have to paint over a few. If after making my line I don’t need some I will clean them up even before I start dotting so I can paint them. But most wipe off easily just have to wait til the paint is dry when you can scrub a bit.
I have gotten some that come with an eraser end and that works well but leaves like a foggy dust of chalk so I will use a wet cloth or qtip even after using the eraser end.
Can this work on 8x8?
Of course. I would draw your center circle and base your other lines off that. And increase dot sizes as needed.
If that’s to difficult for you, you could just center it and add more around the edges too.
