😮😮 1:431:44 I first saw 2101 & and a sister (either 2100 or 2102) at a now-gone scrap yard in Hawkins Point (Baltimore) off Chemical Rd. I think year was 1973 or 74. The two had been there for some time. They had their connecting rods laying horizontal on the tenders. When I next saw 2101, it had been moved to the now-gone B&O Riverside Yard in 1975 for its restoration to operating condition. It was placed nose-in the bay with the tender being restored elsewhere. I volunteered for several weeks doing things that were assigned to me. I helped with torquing stay bolts, cleaning small parts, working in the smoke box, and more. She looked very different with all the sheet metal and insulation removed. Interestingly, the nose-in position meant that a hole needed to be opened in the brick wall to facilitate both the removal of the old boiler tubes and the subsequent installation of the new boiler tubes. When the connecting rods on the right side were being reinstalled, a crack was discovered. I reminded them that the other loco at the scap yard might have a possible rod candidate. I am not sure if it was used. It was a wonderful experience from 50 years ago. I will look for any images I might still have.

I am very happy I stumbled accross this video last night. I'm relatively sure that AFT № 1 (Reading № 2101) will eventually be evaluated for overhaul in the distant future, given a chance to bring life back to the locomotive, despite its physical state following The roundhouse fire.
