Actually he is playing a Cor Anglais, which is related to the oboe. 🙂

first of all to all you americans this was composed by the genious of ennio morricone who passed away in 2020 and did 500 movie soundtracks, including this movie theme, plus the mission which is a masterpiece, and also cinema paradiso wich is also a masterpiece which won an acedemy award.
