    thanks for mentioning how and why to not let printer do any color management. Other sites did not mention that. Also thanks for showing the laser beam hole and explaining it.

    You picked a very tricky subject to profile. Very very few Laser printer are truly "no color Management". Usually profiling a Laser is CM over CM outside of using a RIP. Glad to see it helped on this HP.

      @@ArtIsRight Is this right or wrong? Any time you create a profile for a printer you turn color correction off and when you actually print with that profile, you leave color correction off, in the print settings, and let whatever app you are using; Photoshop, Corel Draw, Affinity . . . control the print with the profile created in Xrite?

    • @ArtIsRight
      @ArtIsRight  3 года назад +1

      I used xRite Studio to calibrate my Epson Pro Inkjets without any issue. But with in the “Color” Settings of my new Color Laserjet 652dn, there is no ‘None’ setting. There is ‘Default’, and ‘Device RGB’ (beside the usual Vivid RGB etc). So which option to choose here?

    • @ArtIsRight

      @reiyv139 there should be an option to turn off color management.

    Hi Art. Thanks for the informative tutorial. When calibrating my Epson P800 printer. Can I use plain paper or the Epson luster paper that I use for prints. Thanks in advance.

    • @ArtIsRight
      @ArtIsRight  3 года назад

      Printer profiling is paper specific. So if you want to print on plain paper, profile plain. If you want to print on epson lustre then profile lustre. Truth be told, if you are using the i1studio, you are probably better off downloading the profile from Epson or the paper manufacturer directly ruclips.net/video/uToEzmzuZBU/видео.html

      Are you on Mac? If so are you using HP printer driver or AirPrint? If you are using AirPrint you will see limited options. AirPrint is a generic print driver unlike the specialize HP one.

    So, do you have to calibrate for each paper type you're planning on using?

    • @ArtIsRight
      @ArtIsRight  4 года назад +1

      If you want the best profile possible you should do this for every single paper. Since this is a laster printer, I'm not worried about it so much. I would be more concern with ink jet printer and fine art paper.

    I just bought the newest HP printer, the LaserJet Pro MFP M283cdw. The new dialog does not include any "color matching" or "color" options anymore. How can I use the X-Rite/Calibrite software to get a correct color chart?

    • @ArtIsRight
      @ArtIsRight  3 года назад

      Are you not getting that because you are using air print driver instead of HP specific one? I check that first ruclips.net/video/cRqNmqFtUXc/видео.html

      @@ArtIsRight I've tried to install the HP driver, but the option to install the driver directly is no longer available on iMac OS 11.4 . The only options are to install (1) Secure Airprint, (2) Airprint, (3) Auro Select [which gives me Secure AirPrint], (4) Generic PostScript Printer, (5) Generic PCL Printer, or (6) Select Software... So I tried Select Software..., and though it lists a lot of printers, it does not list my M283cdw . So I called HP support, and was told that HP does not offer help on my printer, that I'd have to call Apple. I was left with a promise that a supervisor from HP will call me tomorrow. But is there anything else that I can do?

    • @ArtIsRight
      @ArtIsRight  3 года назад

      I would try pcl driver. I’ll test this on my m1 and let you know

    • @rickeisner
      @rickeisner 3 года назад

      @@ArtIsRight Finally, after talking to Apple and the supervisor at HP, I've learned that there's no way out. HP is "working" on definitions for my printer, but they haven't been completed yet. (Why?) The only option for me would be rolling back my OS to 11.2 (from 11.4) so the HP software would be compatible, but Apple says there's no way to do that. So I'm left with a printer that doesn't work--yet. Oh yeah, the PCL Driver doesn't seem any better; and the Generic PostScript Driver gives me access to a "color matching" dialog but I can't choose or delete anything. Catch-22
      Should I take this whole thing back where I bought it?

    • @ArtIsRight
      @ArtIsRight  3 года назад

      You can return it but the story would be the same for all of the laser printer as of now. M283 is a new iteration which is why the driver is not done yet. And for Apple You can't roll back the OS but you can do a clean install and migrate the data back, not worth the time though. You will also need to check and see if your Big Sur copy is old enough as well. I might just try to profile with the color adjustment and see what happens. I feel that at the end of the day it is probably better than nothing.

    Very nice tutorial :-)
    A small correction, i1 Display Pro is a Colorimeter not a spectrophotometer.
    The i1 Basic Pro is a spectrophotometer and is pretty expensive ;-)

      Hi @Kalle, thank you for the feedback, much appreciated.
      About the correction, again I appreciate the feedback and I do apologize if I missed this, however, I have reviewed my video countless time during the editing and even more times in the upload. I can't find where I mentioned that the i1Display Pro is color spectrophotometer. The device that I was using in the video was an i1Studio which is a color spectrophotometer a moderately price one for consumers and pros. The i1Basic Pro, has reached its end of life for more than a few years already, the current equivalent (newer and better device) is the i1Photo Pro 3 Plus which is X-Rite high end color spectrophotometer and it is the expensive one. I do have an i1Display Pro on the table but in this case it was used as a prop. I like to clarify up any miss understanding so that other viewers are not confused by this. Cheers.

      ArtIsRight no biggie.
      There are however a big positive using a colorimeter and that is measuring speed. But that is the only positive I can think of compared to a spectrophotometer. I have both that I use for a paint blending project I’m currently working on.

    • @ArtIsRight
      @ArtIsRight  5 лет назад

      Hi @Kalle yes that is a big one. In my testing I found that both can produce results that are close to each other. However, I still feel that a colorimeter still produce a slightly better result as of now. I am going to test the i1Photo Pro 3 Plus and see how the new Spectrophotometer does with a larger measuring aperture.

    Inkjet printers will have a more vibrant color immediately after the ink has been laid down on the paper. This will start darkening almost immediately as it dries. This is why they want you to wait the 10 minutes.

    • @ArtIsRight
      @ArtIsRight  Год назад

      fully aware, there are more reasons to this as well, you don't want to smear the ink. And dry down time matter for some paper type because ink can soak into the coating which can effect the DMax.

      @@ArtIsRight Very true. Do you have any videos detailing out the ColorChecker Studio and any changes they may have made from the older x-rite device? I'm seeing on their comparison PDF on their site that ambient light measurement is not supported on the new iteration of the ColorChecker Studio.
      I did see your unboxing photos of the new devices. That was helpful in matching up the products with that PDF.
