I remember all the children's ones, (obviously), and a fair number of the grown-up/teenage demographic aimed ones, as well. The Banana Splits had it's own cartoon series within, as I remember. Arabian Knights, The Three Musketeers and Micro Ventures. The show was part of many school holiday morning schedules during the 70's and early 80's. I always remember the songs, with, 'Gonna Find A Cave', being one that always stuck in my mind and was quintessentially 60's, for me! Bod was a quirky kind of show, for sure. From the way the characters walked, (with one of Bod's legs moving out sideways), to the use of theme tunes for every character when they appeared on screen, it soon became a favourite to imitate. All the music done by Derek Griffiths, of course. I was never over-keen on the Alberto Frog section of the show, simply because it looked so cheaply done with it being nothing but Jackanory styled images rather than movement. And the, 'special effects', on the way Alberto would drink his chosen flavour of milkshake was the envy of George Lucas, no doubt. If I didn't know any better, I'd say that the Bod segment and the Alberto Frog one were wedged together to make up the 15 minute allotted time for a lunchtime programme for kids. Bagpuss was another one were the various characters was often imitated, in our house. The mice on the mouse organ generally being the ones with their high-pitched voices saying things like, 'heave, heave, heave', and the song that revolved around mending whatever item had been brought into the shop. Madeline the doll and Gabriel the toad where deemed to be the sensible ones, with, 'Professor', Yaffle being somewhat pompous and all-knowing. Bagpuss himself tended to be a bit of a dreamer and would often go off on flights of fancy much to the chagrin of Yaffle. The best part of the show were the folksy songs that were played. A real wholesome show, for sure.
Blake's Seven was a total classic. Paul Darrow as Avon was the real star of the show in my opinion - worse cardboard sets than Crossroads, but we still loved it! Great acting can carry anything...

Thanks for your nostalgic video. Some of your " B " letter programmes were shown on TV here in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada back about 50 years ago. The Canadian Broadcast Corporation ran " Butterflies", teenage me & my family loved it, the father in that series played by Geoffrey Palmer was so much like my Uncle Hugh. My brother, his pals & myself & my chums used to love " The Benny Hill Show", It was broadcast from two TV stations south of the border, KVOS-Bellingham & KSTW Tacoma, Washington. Like you say in your video, the slapstick, uncouth humour of Benny Hill was popular in the United States. I like your videos, thank you for getting them together & posting on your RUclips channel,

My late parents got their first rented colour television in 1976. Colour television at the time wasn't that common. In fact at college in the early 1980s, I could only afford a black and white portable and a black and white television licence. I can still recite the opening and closing monologues from Bagpuss. I used to watch it with my younger brother, who was born seven years after me. I watched it with him like many other children's shows.
Brilliant! Remember most of these but a few I had totally forgotten about! A couple I had never heard of. Favorites have to be Bagpuss and Banana Splits!
Blue remembered hills - I saw this as a young teen and it has never left me….hilarious, heart breaking and brilliant! The poem by AE houseman will strike a chord with anyone who loves reminiscing about their childhood 😻
The character of Avon with his ascerbic wit, put downs and come backs, was the best character in Blakes 7. I saw some original props from the show, including the model Liberator spaceship, at a Sci-Fi exhibtion in London.

A few interesting ones there i had forgotten about, and some i remember my parents watching when it was time for bed for me. One B i remember was bewitched where she used to wiggle her nose to cast a spell, that finished very early seventies but i remember it quite clearly ( I was very young then).
Don't forget Esther's The Big Time that not only launched the career of Sheena Easton, it also was the first show to get someone cancelled (the late great Fanny Cradock) when she pointed out to a member of the public that seafood cocktail, duck in lemon jelly and coffee cream dessert with rum don't mix. It's time the BBC issued a full apology to Ms Cradock and donate half the licence fee to manufacturers of food colourings as reparations.

I remembered the rest of them, including "Beasts" including one about a phantom dolphin starring Martin Shaw. That was weird! I didn't really like "Big John Little John" for some reason. Barnaby Bear, the Banana Splits and Benny Hill I loved! Don't forget Blue Peter as well.
Yes, Blue Peter is a great shout! One of those shows you could include in almost any decade. I'll be sure to include it when I get round to doing an A-Z of 80s TV! Thanks as always Carole.
Two of my all time favourites were Bagpus and Blakes 7 (at different times of course!) I didn't notice how weird Bod was until I bought it on DVD for my friends little boy about 15 years ago and we were totally bemused by it - he loved it though!
Hello Stu🙋♀️ What a video 📹 What a wonderful nostalgic TV 📺 trip down Memory Lane... Yes I certainly remember watching “Brothers” “The Basil Brush Show” “Big John Little John” “Benny Hill.” I have a vague memory of enjoying “Billy Liar” simply because I still remember the theme tune to this day!! “Butterflies” remains one of my all time favourite Situation Comedies 🎭 If my memory serves me correctly, I am sure there was a children’s drama series called “Boy Dominic.” Then a sequel “Dominic.”(?!) Looking forward to the next instalment...📹
Didnt realise beckinsale was so young when he died. He and ronnie barker were a great pairing. Play for today made some great dramas, a lot more true to life than what we get today. The banana splits was great kids tv, then the dickies took the theme music into the charts, a true punk classic
One TV show from the 70’s was called Children of the Stones 1977 featuring Iain Cuthbertson It was an odd ball series but I liked watching it 🏴🏴❤️❤️😊😊
Boy Dominic, what a great Sunday afternoon series on ITV. Shut all on film, it featured top class performances from the likes of Richard Todd. Personally, I preferred the sequel, just known as Dominic.
I'll fight anyone to the death who says Blake's 7 isn't a masterpiece! I met Paul Darrow a number of times and he was one of the nicest people I've ever met, an absolute gentleman! I miss him and I know I'm not alone. Bagpuss is timeless! Still have a big Bagpuss stuffed toy from a couple of decades ago when he had a bit of a resurgence. I'm pretty sure Bod is the reason Dali is my favourite artist, there were few children's shows more surreal than Bod! 😅
@@stuviewtv He was great at those conventions, really natural, a brilliant orator with huge stage presence. He was also really chill, easy to talk to and just a really nice bloke! I need to dig out my old Mini-DV camcorder and see what I've got on the tapes, hopefully he's on one somewhere! Also, the last episode of series 1 of the Adventure Game has Paul as one of the two guest stars, it gives you an idea of what he was like when not being a baddy on Doctor Who or Avon! Worth a watch! Although the version of that episode I found was a pretty poor quality VHS rip, so if you do look for it don't expect too much, it's... Well, a VHS rip! 😂 How did we cope?!
The A to Z of 70's TV: The letter "B" is for "Bloody brilliant!" ... So many "belting" shows! ... They'll never be "bettered!" ... I'm a "big" fan! ❤️ There was some "barrel" scraping in 70's TV, such as "Barbapapa" which was "bull$h1t!" 👎🤣
I loved Butterflies and Basil Brush. I was watching a tribute to Carla Lane last night, and they showed a clip of Butterflies from 2000. Unfortunately it was only a 15 minute episode for Children in Need, but it was still the same as I remember it. It's a shame Geoffrey Palmer passed away, maybe they could have done another update.
Indeed,so he had. As I recall, the 5 completed episodes were quite good, and had Mr Beckinsale lived,a second season would likely have been commissioned .He was a sad loss.💔
Thank you for another great video. So many programmes here that I used to watch but had long forgotten like The Brothers and Billy Liar. I always end up heading to Wikipedia because I have an urge to look up the actors to see if they’re alive or dead. Bet I’m not the only one 😂. I’ve got the Banana Splits theme tune on my Spotify along with a whole load of other tv themes like Hill Street Blues, Magnum etc. I was wondering if Bergerac would have popped up.
Publishing Fisher 😂 We'res that bloody billy gone Bugalugs Just got the Dvd of Billy liar I wasn't born when it came out but seen repeats of it in the 1980s Hilarious the Grandmother was the best. Keith Waterhouse was not happy because the made home change the script So it can't be repeated on Mainstream TV . Take care
Do you remember 'The Beachcombers' they used to run during school holidays throughout the 70's. And for the letter 'C' please include Children of the Stones.
Blake's 7 left this viewer cold: looked identical to late '70s Doctor Who minus the wit. Jeff Rawle series a total surprise: surely Stu too young to appreciate at time?
I was a teenager in the 70s best time to be growing up. Nothing like these programs on Tv today

Yes, Blue Peter is a great shout! One of those shows you could include in almost any decade. I'll be sure to include it when I get round to doing an A-Z of 80s TV! Thanks as always Carole.
@@stuviewtv Welcome, Stu. Yes, it has been running a long time!
I tried watching "Blake's 7" once. Hanging off my bed upside down one night after watching "Headbanger's Ball".
I didn't get it. Shocking, I know.
70s tv 📺 definitely the best Era!
Two of my all time favourites were Bagpus and Blakes 7 (at different times of course!)
I didn't notice how weird Bod was until I bought it on DVD for my friends little boy about 15 years ago and we were totally bemused by it - he loved it though!
I loved Blakes seven
The 1970's, it was the best of times..
Well done again stu there were a couple of shows I couldn't remember and some I completely forgot about. Cheers mate for your time and effort. 👍
My pleasure. Thanks!
Thanks as always Alison! Yes, you're right about Boy Dominic. I missed that one. What a cast too, Richard Todd and Brian Blessed.
Didnt realise beckinsale was so young when he died. He and ronnie barker were a great pairing. Play for today made some great dramas, a lot more true to life than what we get today. The banana splits was great kids tv, then the dickies took the theme music into the charts, a true punk classic
As an old bloke with a few grey hairs, I'm afraid I have to admit that I have got the complete Bagpuss series on DVD!
Bod was like those East European animation's you saw on BBC 2
One TV show from the 70’s was called Children of the Stones 1977 featuring Iain Cuthbertson
It was an odd ball series but I liked watching it
🏴🏴❤️❤️😊😊
That's great that you got to meet Paul Darrow. A fine actor.
There was some "barrel" scraping in 70's TV, such as "Barbapapa" which was "bull$h1t!" 👎🤣
For me it was The Banana Splits and I do have the DVD of the series as well.
12 this time. Mainly the kids stuff.
ALways a big bagpuss fan but a reminder for me was BIg John Little John, completely forgot that one.
such a tragedy that richard beckinsale died so young, the saddest thing being i had passed a medical before filming the movie version of porridge
Bergerac began in 1981 so I'll include it if I do an 80s A-Z. Glad you enjoyed the video! Many thanks.
BOD! me and you mate cant work out what was going on!!!!!!
It was a strange one alright!
In the mid 2000's there was a Babapapa shop in Brussels. I could have spent a fortune in there.
Fantastic!
thx!!
I always thought the policeman on Bod was called PC Copper ?
There was a show called "Bright's Boffins" a comedy aimed at kids, in the early 70's. Sadly no surviving episodes :(
The sadly lost Bright's Boffins gets a quick mention in this video.
11:20 : PC Copper, surely??
Yes, you are right.
I'd forgotten about 'Babapapa'!
Publishing Fisher 😂
We'res that bloody billy gone
Bugalugs
Just got the Dvd of Billy liar
I wasn't born when it came out but seen repeats of it in the 1980s
Hilarious the Grandmother was the best.
Keith Waterhouse was not happy because the made home change the script
So it can't be repeated on
Mainstream TV .
Take care
Do you remember 'The Beachcombers' they used to run during school holidays throughout the 70's. And for the letter 'C' please include Children of the Stones.
Awesome times .. so sad seeing how Great Britain has become so changed !!! ❤❤
Care to explain what you mean by that
@@iandawe948 I don’t need to explain to anyone .. it stands for what I mean.
@@Britishlady12
Oh yes, we know very well what you mean
@@iandawe948 good 👍
@@iandawe948 lol 😂 😂 😂 😂
Great video Stu, brought back a lot of fond memories. Why no Battlestar Galactica or Buck Rogers In The 25th Century though?
I'm going to include those in the 80s version.
Blake's 7 left this viewer cold: looked identical to late '70s Doctor Who minus the wit. Jeff Rawle series a total surprise: surely Stu too young to appreciate at time?
That doesn't half look like Pauline Quirke at 8.25.
It is indeed.
