- In this video we demonstrate how to use a trucker hitch to tie things down on your boat.
I also use this technique for rigging applications like bobstays, whisker stays, and mast raising wires.

helpful ! TNX
Glad it was helpful!
I love the slip loop for the trucker's hitch. I've been using an alpinist's butterfly loop, but there's no reason to use something so complicated.
Thanks - it's simple and seems to hold up well as long as you orient it the right way! We've used it for some pretty massive loads, including bobstays and whisker stays on our trimaran bowsprit with no issues!
Great, man! All so well explained.
Glad it made sense!
Love dyneema just wish it wasn’t sooo slippery
I know it's super slippery! I wouldn't normally use it for this application but did for the video because it's very photogenic and easy to see the knots! I'd normally just use double-braid polyester for tying things down.
That’s functional, but it’s not a true truckers hitch.
If you want to do that, “modified truckers hitch”, do not use that slip knot for your change of direction. Use a Butterfly knot (loop). It unties like butter when you’re done. That slip knot will get tight and it’s difficult to untie.
Thanks for the tip! Yes there are a variety of knots you can use for the multi-part purchase part of the knot. How easy the slip knot is to get out depends on a variety of factors, including the line and the amount of load.
