    for me there were 2 types of foams, the end near the cabin had a much more spongey foam and the other end was a thick white sponge, which made the sound a lot more noticeable after taking out!

  • @MrRoyck10
    @MrRoyck10 4 года назад +4

    The sponge removal on mine was truly transformational with the engine noise. Consider de badging the z4 on the rear mad the 3.0Si by the side, nice car!

    took my foams out but in the process noticed the firewall cutout was still attached in the opening from factory .after removing this made noticable diference. may be worth checking out on yours fyi

    Nice car. Have the same one in black.
    Took the sound generator out and removed the sponges... it made a difference but not until 5,000 rpm. Then it became too much and I put ihr back on.

  • @MrRoyck10

    Taking of the foam definitely makes a difference, you may have to check that your hose pipe are in good condition, I am on my second coupe, this is the only mod that I did to my car, the noise was too loud I had to put back one of the foam to reduce the induction noise. Go on the Z4 forum is a well known fact unless your vents or pipe are blocked.

    • @robgraham23
      @robgraham23  3 года назад

      I thought I had taken it all out but there was another denser piece of foam in the middle of the pipe. Cars gone to the graveyard now anyway which is a shame.

      @@robgraham23 I'm also confused about you not noticing any sound difference. I took one foam out and the sound is day and night (when you floor it). With both foams out it is even louder... so loud it feels fake. Try taking the other one out instead and replacing yours in it (as they are different density and one makes different noise than the other). And try with no foam at all and you will quickly know what we are talking about ;) Mine is a 3.0i and in fact it's a bit louder that the "one foam out only" on my friend's 3.0si coupé, but still clearly noticeable. So noticeable that I imediately spotted he had it removed again by phone last time he called me while driving.

      I have to say Rob, I've had my car about 2 months now and LOVE it it's the coupe si, I took the foam out by removing the panel under the glove box, I put a new Aircon filter in there and you can see the noise generater tube where it enters the cabin, I pulled the foam out of mine, it's very dense and about 2 inches long, no noise difference really below 4500rpm but above that it's mental.
      Sounds like night and day now, huge difference in noise, it's awesome!!

      Had the TVR for about 7-8 years, been an ongoing project, I have an invoice file on it with a higher value than the price the car was when new. Planning to do a number of videos on the Tamora once the weather changes. Also will do a video of another TVR project I have going in the form of one of the last TVR Sagaris shells build when the factory closed.

      I do use as a daily driver. Can't fault it.

    • @danielthoma2907
      @danielthoma2907 3 года назад +3

      Done it for two years, the 3,0si is actually great at that. It's relaxed, quite spacious, fuel economy is much better than you'd think if you don't do extended high-speed stretches of autobahn. Biggest drawback is that it's absolutely impossible to fit even one "big" item or more than one passenger. It's still possible to fit lots and lots of "regular" stuff like groceries, bags and what have you. So in 90% of cases it's great if you're not the designated driver or have a bigger family. If it's for you or maybe a couple, that's usually fine. The comfort levels depend a lot on the tires you use. Don't stick to runflats, don't go with too wide or too big and experiment with the air pressure. Otherwise they tend to follow any depressions, so damages in the road like wheel ruts. However, this was really only annoying at 90mph+ or so, maybe no problem in the UK/US. Can't fault noise levels or suspension much, it is relatively stiff and it is relatively direct (not as connected as the M but still). Also suffers from the short wheelbase, in that sense, as you're basically sitting on the rear axle. It is far from terrible though. It's not a C/E-Class, but it is very doable. You're rewarded with a gorgeous car, imho one of the best NA engines (manners, soundtrack, power delivery, reliability), a very unusual driving position and "playful" handling. After selling it and moving to the M-Coupe, I had F21/120d after... more comfortable, better economy, more torque, more space, but didn't make me as happy.
