    I don't think a true expert would have pinched his saw as many times as I did on this tree, but that 2038R & grapple saved me several times! I will remember this project for a long time and appreciate the opportunity to play with your machines, the big load of oak firewood and the hospitality of Tim & Christy. This is a fantastic video, all bias aside 😁 Great job and thanks for the fun!

      Great job, Neil! When I suggested you should drive down to do this with Tim and Christy, I was half kidding. So awesome to see the two of you work together. This is the year I will get a grapple (fingers crossed) I can't wait to see what you'll do with yours.

    Great video Tim. It was nice for you to have the luxury of help doing such a big tree. I didn't have that luxury much while cutting wood, just takes longer and use more caution. That grapple tractor is worth its weight in gold , worked much better than I thought it would. My old B7800 used to lift those big oak logs 15 years ago but the age and abuse I feel has weakened the hydraulic pump, it - like me- doesn't want to grunt those big ones any more. • @landservicesandmore8691
    @landservicesandmore8691 3 года назад +1

    when the limb is only supported at one end, you may not need an undercut... but if you do use one, do the undercut first for less than half the diameter of the limb, and the log won't pinch the saw when you complete the cut from the top... and you will avoid stripping bark up the limb (or down as the case may be)... However, If the log is supported at both ends, do the top cut first just for a bit (about a third of the diameter or less) and then complete the cut from underneath... since the log will drop in the middle because of its weight (and gravity)... Of course when you are "blowing and going... you often place the saw for a cut where it seems convenient without thinking... and then you get the "bind"... Big tree... enjoyed the video!

    • @digdrivediy
      @digdrivediy 3 года назад

      Good advice and I fully agree. I had about 95% of my cuts turn out about right. Then I had some that were as you say "blowing and going". Sure am glad that loader and grapple was around as it let me get away with a few pinchers!
