I honestly like it when people get jealous after saying no to something. No, the lesson is don't have great expectations about anyone you consider a friend. You may like them, but that doesn't mean they are great characters who value loyalty and reciprocate in a way that you would like. They might not like you as much as you like them. Many people are fakers and actors, pretending usually to get something they want. When they've got it, they're off or the true characters emerge.

The so-called "friends" I'd had were my enemies, and were extremely envious of me, and resentful of me, and only hung out with me because it benefitted them. You mentioned that a lot of the people one calls friends are actors, and that was the case each time with my past company. Today, at 55 years young, I tell myself that it was a blessing in disguise that they all left. I now have real McCoys who have stuck with me through thick and thin over the years, and they have helped me through some of the toughest times in my life, whereas the others turned their backs to me, and didn't give a 💩.
