The most insane thing about this is that the acoustics in that chapel make those three monks sound like an entire choir. This is really well done

The gregorian hymn is what un-translated Prophets sound like. Go back and listen to that clip in Halo 2.
If you notice halo uses Gregorian chants and tribal war drums instead of the usual rock and synth wave like usual sci fi. It shows even though humanity is primitive compared to the covenant we together our ancient histories of wars has prepared us for this fight.

Imagine walking past a church or monastery and hearing this. Pure chills 🤯
There is something about the acoustics of classic churches out of stone or brick - which is of course not not random in any way.
First time I visited England I walked past a village church, on my way to some shops, and heard the choir inside practicing Amazing Grace. It was on the same time just so fitting so much a cliche it just checked so many boxes, like it was just out of portrait of how a English village is supposed to be.

@@bzdtemp that's incredible
This is what most modern churches don't get. Strumming a guitar and singing a pop song about how great Jesus is doesn't bring anyone into the church at all. Funny that you reference the divinity, as the original Halo trilogy was pretty clearly a critique of religious fanaticism. Abrahamic religion specifically, if you consider the terminology used.
The Covenant are very spiritual in this universe. The humans aren't so much though. They have more of a mind for science
Omfg. The chord at 1:16 gave me fulllllll body chills and made my eyes water. This is BEAUTIFUL!!!
Ya dude, almost did the same to me. Got goosebumps.
It is to cause you the chills in te sec 1-1-7 . Masterfully done.
I got the chills right away!
this is incredibly beautiful
If this is not edited then this is absolutely stunning. Their voices are so locked in that the overtones and undertones they are producing sound like a choir of about 10 people. Phenomenal.
And the space between their notes sounds like it’s filled with instruments, which is incredible
I don't think it's edited, if so it's very misleading since the title of it is singing in an actual church. You're not running natural church reverb through autotune and expecting anything but garbage. You do need to record in vocal boxes, or at least an isolated room, if you're going to do any pitch editing. Totally possible to do it that way and just record the video in a church, it just doesn't look like it to me. I'm just an amateur though.
The amazing acoustics in the building also makes this sound so much better
Vocal music at its peak has those sounds between the voices, I don't know what it's called exactly. but if it's *RIGHT*, three voices sound like hundreds.
@@seaborgium919 harmonics?
@@TocoaPuffs, It's not entirely. They got a bunch of videos while they were making it on their channel also hello 7 month comment.
My child: Daddy, tell me a bed time story!
Me: Rest your head my child, and let me tell you about a man named John…
It's gonna be a looong story... ;>
John... John Halo
*"Let me tell you the legendary tale of Lucky John, a man born into the life of a soldier, there to protect humanity whatever the cost."*
The child would get so immersed in the story that he will forget to sleep.
@@mechatech9897 Can confirm. That was my experience when I first discovered Halo. :)
That chamber makes it sound like there are a thousand of them! Just incredible!
"Chief, mind telling me what youre doing in that chapel dungeon?"
"Sir, recording a banger sir."
I just had a feeling of nostalgia that takes me back all the way to CE. I know I probably shouldn't get emotional but this takes me back to the good old days of my childhood. Love what you've guys done here and thank you.
i remember playing through the halo series with my friends in school
I get emotional too when I hear this. CE is how I met and became close to some of my best friends.
I remember playing CE on PC with my old man, I can remember the feeling of pure joy by playing
CE was the first first person shooter game I ever beat, and it made me feel like I could do anything, so I totally get the nostalgia
If this doesn't give you chills and put a tear in your eyes you've missed a lifetime my friend..
This is well said!
True words my friend. And to think this all began all those years ago with a game called halo combat evolved.
1:20 that Harmony was beautiful
That was so stunning omg
i cant ever be as good as these guys are, but i find myself chanting along in my tiny female voice
This does not have the notoriety it deserves after 6 days of being up! Incredible! Absolutely incredible vocals
Thanks man, hopefully it will get more views and publicity! It would encourage us to make more covers from the Halo Trilogy^^
@@GameMusicCollective i hope we see more soon! Absolutely excellent! 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼
Never played the Game, but that is an amazing opening musical score.
I know you meant the halo but the way you write it make me loose "the game"
You should change that.
One of the best... you should also search for The last of us main theme also
Well, the Master Chief collection is twenty bucks on Steam right now. First six games at that price is a steal. Do it.
its an alright FPS. I wouldn't lose sleep about not playing it.
Goosebumps!
🤦♂️
Same!!
Got me too. Pretty epic.
Totally triggered a smile and goosebumps. Glad others experienced this as well.
Every time!
The overtones are what get me. I can hear the overtone soprano part consistently but it's joined by 1-2 alto voices in parts. It takes incredibly precise harmony to make that resonance work. My classically-trained ass needs a place like this I can just go sing, I miss this architecture.
This really reminded me how much of an instrument our voice is. People can do so many great things.
i can yell at my cat
@@MegaMultiRage you go dude
The instrument of our voice is one of God's greatest gifts to us. Gregorian chant is an excellent utilization of it.
@@MegaMultiRage that's the spirit
Most complex instrument unless you are counting computers
The most epic and amazing soundtrack in a game that 11 year old me had ever heard. 31 year old me still hasn't heard one that is better in all of these years. Every time I hear it, I can almost see young-me playing Halo: CE with my friends over and over again. The campaign playthroughs on legendary, the pvp tournaments, the summer nights that never seemed to end. This rendition is absolutely stellar. Thanks for the memories
Those LAN parties were the best! Even with old crappy TVs.
I miss those kinds of nights. Man I do
sorry bud but darksouls beats it

@@Ubotit_Unaymit "Alright guys, let's set the tvs up back-to-back
I'm super impressed by the amount of overtones I'm hearing. What a pure sound!
It's all that parallel organum and hint of polyphony.
@@starrmont4981 It's mostly due to the acoustic of the chapel... Nothing else. Had they been on an open field you'd just hear it regularly...
@@livedandletdie Even so, without the acoustic of the chapel, you can tell this is no joke. I've heard people try it even with an acoustic environment like this one, but they're nothing compered to this. This is amazing
ODST never die. They're just missing in action.
Completely agree!
ODST always die. Spartans are the ones that never die.
