That’s an extremely uneducated and highly offensive comment. Less than 10 members of SOTG committed war crimes and this is unacceptable. The men in this film are regular army and no war crimes were committed by any of the regular army. However, many regular Australian army soldiers were killed trying to bring critical infrastructure to the people who lived under the oppression and poverty of the Taliban. Have some respect champ

The us is just a disaster when it comes to international affairs. The concept of going in with all guns blazing, chanting usa and waving the us flag works in the us, it doesn't work ANYWHERE else.
All over Afghanistan and Iraq, all the people have to say is that the us has caused more problems than were even there in the first place.
That's not to say this "hearts and minds" catchphrase is great, but simply being there to provide security in support of local forces to enable these countries to rebuild is a lot better than destroying everything and turning more people into enemies.

The problem is that most of our NATO allies have sent a token force of a few hundred soldiers to Afghanistan to "help" our effort to fight the Taliban and Al Qaeda. Of course, that ship has sailed now but if our friends have sent more troops in 2001-2004 time frame we would have wiped the floor with them. For example some smaller countries like Denmark have sent 120 troops. I mean come on.. Nobody was expecting that a 5 million people country would send 2 brigades but if they sent 1000 soldiers and Germany 10 000 (remember we sent millions of young men to save your ass Germany from yourself and after that we guarded your ass from the Soviets for another 40 years) thinks would be different now. You could have returned the favor and help a bit more. German state of military is in shambles. They are a joke. German Army sent some IFVs to a NATO exercise that had broom sticks instead of machines guns since they didn't have money to equip them with 50 cal machine guns. Also currently German's Navy is in such a sad state of affairs that they don't have a single operational Type 212 AIP submarine. Some are in deep overhaul while others wait for the regular meintnance that can't be done cause their shipyards are a joke. Again if there weren't US troops in mainland Europe Putin could take a walk to Berlin and bitch slap Angela Merkel and her croonies that can't wait to crawl up the Putin's ass cause they stand to make millions through lucrative oil business with Russians. Pathetic. Although I can't stand the Orange buffoon he has one thing right, Europe has to give more money to joint defense and military cause they can't count only on a US nuclear shield. And we're not talking about some small NATO countries like Croatia or Slovenia. We're talking about an economical giant Germany that currently has around 70 operational tanks-. 70!!!!! Heinz Guderian would turn in his grave if he knew this.

its the basic of all warfare, you must have an overwhelming support of the local citizen in order to win, in that way they will give you better inteligence, local resource, and possible logistics, they can give you the details of the terrain, enemy position, and vantage points, all in all, a certain success in the battlefield

The Taliban formed in 1996, The tribes and peoples they drew from have been around much longer. Most joined only to avoid the scorn of the Taliban pre 9/11. But it seems now days anyone who feels the NATO forces have harmed their Pashtunwali (which could be viewed as unIslamic) is joining. So their are parts that can be settled and dealt with at a table and there are parts who need to be dealt with by force.

Yes, they damn well do! Also the circumstances prior to and during the build up to any conflict play a huge part in whether a conflict is right to engage in or not! In the case of the US most of the conflicts they've been involved in have either been due to a desire to help the indiginous people or as a response to an attack on them (like Afghanistan). In rare cases conflicts are brought about due to the decision to take a strategicly pre-emptive strike (like Iraq)!

Clearly you do understand the reasons, you just don't like it, which is fine, everyone is entitled to their opinion, but you shouldn't expect no-one to question you on it.

That's my nations army (Dutch) fighting the Taliban. And in Oruzgan we are winning more than in American controlled areas. I don't blame America, but we Dutch do more with the Afghans. Not only brutal combat ... and it helps.

Why should people on the other side of the world be subjected to such extreme suffering and pain just because they may have had bad leaders?
No one gets punished because this is coming from the top.
They live in poverty to begin with and then America starts killing them.
In America, the few people who complain about this are shot down, for in America, the only freedom people have is to be safe.
Freedom is sacrificed everyday in America for more security.

We must have done something wrong if we're fighting for oil because I'm still paying $3.13 a gallon.

We do use some locals but I agree we should use more locals. Spread the wealth while giving people pride in rebuilding their country. I know they use alot of Iraqis in Iraq but I'm not sure how many local Afghans are being used for building.
