Bought to build my second pc and this vids a great refresher. I did accidentally place my whole hand on the back of the motherboard when I took it out to install the cpu. but I had grounded myself earlier so I think I should be fine. Will find out by next week 😅
A lot of boards these days are pretty tough when it comes to static, more concerned about grubbing around the front onto a capacitor or something small that can snap. I’m sure you’re fine! I’ve held them like that before too usually palm on the back plate of the cpu
this was very helpful, i have been thinking either to buy a prebuilt pc or building my own and the motherboard was the very problem i have on how to hold it, thank you very much
I don't know if I would get a response but if the only floor surface I have is carpet, would wearing shoes be a viable option to reduce the electrostatic charge build up?
Perfect timing on my way to building one soon. I saw you placed the Motherboard on top of the box. Can I also use the conductive bag to place it on the bottom of the motherboard? Or is it unnecessary?
I have that same exact motherboard 11 years later, looking at upgrading the case, RGB fans, power supply and getting a AIO CPU cooler. Then when ready will upgrade motherboard, CPU, GFX, memory and hard drives at a later date.
*Seems like most sources today say that all modern components are already built to rid static electricity and that it's not necessary to use anti-static tools.*
@@newyorkertx7024 lol this comment was 3 months ago...its alive a friend just told me to leave it for a day or two before turning it on its working fine to this day
Love that you still respond to comments! When it comes to laptop chargers, will any laptop charger work? If you plug the wrist strap to a plugged in charger on the metal end, as you showed in the video?
As long as it uses 3 prongs. The bottom prong connects to the ground your entire home electrical system uses, so you’re basically just connecting to that through the charger.
I was holding the motherboard in its anti shock bag and i think while attempting to hold it i might have added pressure (towards the board) to the capacitor (in the bag) , I haven’t tried installing yet but it looks fine , we’ll see
Sir I have a question....doesn't discharging the pc do the work? Remove everything thats plugged in the pc, keyboard, mouse, video cable, and power cable....then click and hold the power button for 30 seconds....doesn't that remove the excess electric left?
The danger can still exist in static electricity that is generated in your body, any friction can slowly build up a charge (even your clothes rubbing against your skin)
@@MaxsTech okay so the solution to the static electricity thing is touching a metal part of the pc which is the case....I can just rest my forearm on the case and proceed with replacing any pc parts? And also another question....is it safe to discharge a pc everytime I do some replacements on the parts?
Hi, i just built my pc ON the outside of the anti static bag of the mobo, then placed it all excepto for the gpu, then when read all about potential damage, took everything out and placed mobo back onto its anti static bag, you think there will be any damage? What can I do
Have you powered it on? Whatever is done, is done. Most motherboards these days have decent anti static protection coatings already on them. Placing it back in the bag won’t undo anything if something happens but I doubt anything happened. I would just rebuild your PC, this time using the cardboard box as your surface and give it a power on and see.
Typically yea, as long as you’re grounded the board usually doesn’t have any components on the back like capacitors or anything that could more easily get broke. It can be kind of sharp sometimes since many of the solders poke through the back, but otherwise it’s pretty durable.
its always been a question in my mind. Ive seen people use these black gloves and ive no idea what they called but they use it while building a PC. you think thats safe if you cant be asked to use one of those wires? great video btw
Depending on the glove, it can still build up static electricity on the outside. Some though and likely the ones you see are usually nitrile gloves which don’t build up static as easy. I also like them just so I don’t get natural oils from my hands on components.
Hi! If my environment's humidity level is above 80%, what are the chances of doing damage to the motherboard? Assuming I am not grounded and my feet is on a stone floor
At 80% it would be a huge reduction of a static charge building up, motherboards also have good protection coatings on them. While I’m sure there’s still some kind of chance, it would be very very low for you. If you want to be extra safe just touch your pc case of you walked away from the build (walking will be your primary way you build up static charge, especially on rugs/carpet)
I think the next logic video is about how to clean a pc. No. 1 enemy for defects is dust. What do you think? Can be washed the pc parts? Of course, after need properly dry them.
If you never remove it from the bag you can still damage small components on the board, so just make sure to hold it from the back and you’ll be fine. Note, the inside of antistatic bags are designed to not build up static but the outsides still do, so don’t place the board on the bag when you remove it.
Thank you so much for this knowledge! It'll help so much people like me as a beginner on computer engineering! 😁

That is a GREAT video well condensed, practical, no bs. I love it and I love your vibe !
What he said
Very helpful.
I am about to build my first PC.
Clear and concise.
Even experienced technicians seem to overlook these simple measures.
This video serves as a great refresh. Thanks.
Very simple yet powerful channel.
Clear and concise. Thank you!
new to pc gaming so this will help big time once I get all my PC components.
Wow, simple and informative, i got all of the info i need, thank you so much man
Didn't know the capacitors were that fragile, cool

Excellent video! Thanks!
I dont have an area to put my pc while I build it, is it ok to put it on my bed while I sit on a chair? Pretty much use the bed as a table.
fuck I was building my first pc on a carpet now I'm scared to turn it on
Is it working ?
.
Update us
please, continue to elaborate
what happened!??

Well played.
Thanks because im gonna be upgrading my pc so bonelab doesnt take 5 hours to load a level (it only takes like a minute)
this guy's underated.

ur underrated
Yea I no
thank you for your knowledge!!!!
thanks for video a lot!
Every video always says to touch the case, but i dont have a case :(
Nice biceps!
btw, I was looking for a fix idea on a digital equipment damaged by ESD.. Anyone ?
Either buy a new one or uhh... professional rework that would cost more to buy the parts for than buying the part D:
I have rubber gloves at work, like doctor gloves, so will that work well against static buildup?
Thankyou Sir!
this guy is a good youtuber ngl
Is it still ok to have ur hand on the case to prevent esd when the motherboard is in the case?
Useful!
do rubber gloves work to prevent damaging your components?
Ive blown TWO Mac Logic Boards "testing" voltages with Multimeter and I DO NOT KNOW HOW.

great!!!!
I have a question, can you hold the backside of the motherboard freely?

Love ur shirt
do you have to use the anti static mat
You can, helps to stop additional static from building up while you work. Or just use a grounding wrist strap.
my motherboard temperature shows 127.C.. is that too high?
I would guess a faulty sensor
Hi again! How do I ground myself if my house is not grounded?
Any metal object will work, ideally something larger like your pc case, metal desk, fridge.
Hi! If my environment's humidity level is above 80%, what are the chances of doing damage to the motherboard? Assuming I am not grounded and my feet is on a stone floor

What if I handled the Motherboard on the back whilst it’s still in its anti-static bag?

nice
nice picture
Name of motherboard please........
I just play it safe and handle all pc components fully nude
Do you know why my motherboard keep braking? This is like my 3rd one
you literally provide no info
I’m building my first pc so I’m new to these things. I helt my motherboard from the back as well, will this damage it?
Unlikely, but only one way to find out! Keep building and test it out! Good luck :) and have fun!
Bro I’m just trying to build a pc, why is Walter white from the hit show series breaking bad judging me 😭😭😭
😂
I just watched Linus throw a crap ton of computer components.

Hot guy 😛
Can't lie, if you fuck up your computer while building it, you need to get a MRI
What are your thoughts on wearing anti static gloves to build a pc?
Probably not necessary but I like gloves just to stop the grease from my hands getting on parts that make them look messy haha
Hi I have a question I held my motherboard in the back right in the center, is it broken ?🫠
