lmao. I have been a auto service technician for 15 years and i must say, you did the oil change 100x much better than all the lube tech i have seen. lol.
Love this!! I also have a 2007 335i hardtop convertible! Doing the oil change later today so this makes me feel so confident seeing a woman do it herself 💪
Very smart lady. You're saving tons of money by doing it on your own. And that way you know exactly what type of oil is in your engine. Another huge bonus is that you can then transfer that DIY approach and confidence to home repairs, which are usually way more extensive than auto repairs.
If you use the floor lift...keep it under pressure with the axle stands...then you have three things bearing the load of the car...and always lower the jack slooooowly...much safer that way. Girl...I give you credit for doinfg your own oil change...keep up the good work.
Hey Tara, you make a lot of guys look fairly incompetent in the way you did that oil job, however editing and guidance truly works, and your finger on the starter button was the start to an almighty crescendo !
No driveway = no garage = lucky you have someone to loan you tools. I hope you don't live in California. Keep saving, and BTW nice straightforward DIY!
Hi Tara, this is a great start! I have a couple of suggestions if you don't mind(maybe you already did them behind the scenes) 1) Show us the actual jacking point for the car. 2) Jack stands should be raised and snug against the point of contacts before releasing the jack(extremely important safety precaution) 3) Back tires should be prevented from moving in even the slightest with a piece of wood or something similar. 4) Oil filter shouldn't be placed on the concrete or any dirty surface since it increases the chances of debris getting in. Don't mean to be a nit picking fuddy duddy but I don't want to see you get hurt :) PS Dinan stage 2 prices have dropped a lot! $460 bucks for N54 and 600+ for N55. I'm gonna be getting mine tuned pretty soon :)
Hey I don’t know if you have the exact same car but I do have a question when it comes to the gas it takes which gas would give me the best gas mileage for the bmw 335i for example 87, 89, 91, or 93? Because I just recently got the same car
@@marcdestin3190 doesn’t matter put what the owner manual says or what ur gas cap says mine is a 09 335i I have to put unleaded premium you get good gas mileage depending on how u drive
Sweet vid. You hit all the relevant points clearly and didn't waste time repeating yourself or explaining the obvious. Best oil change for BMW e90 I've seen, and the only one i managed to finish. Seriously how do you make a 30+ minute video on changing your oil?
Thanks so much for posting this! I have a 335i 2008 Black convertible. I am going to change my own oil for the first time. Ive owned the car 6 years... so I feel sad that I waited this long, but you definitely inspired me! : D
I know this is an older video, but the oil filter O-ring goes on 2nd groove from the bottom, not the bottom. Usually this will result in an oil leak from the housing if you ever get on the car hard. And not just a minor leak.. like oil everywhere.
Hi Tara. Thanks for all your tips so, I want to give one back to you. Don't ever give another car a jump with your 335i. It will destroy your starter which is about $1,500. About a year ago my battery was too low to start the car so I tried to jump my 335 with my other car. And it destroyed the starter. Luckily my car was still under warranty so, it did not cost me anything. And this is pretty much goes for most BMW's.
First off, great video. You got straight to the point, gave good information all throughout. I do have one issue, BMW 335 uses 5w30 oil. 40 weight may be too thick for such a high temperature engine.
You can place some large rags (an old bath towel with the right size hole cut in the center is great) snug around the filler hole and oil filter housing to cut out any messy splashes and drips. It all helps keep the engine and bay clean(er). If your Bimmer is anything like mine, (and from what I saw, I suspect it is) it doesn't need any encouragement when it comes to distributing it's various internal fluids around the engine bay. It seems to manage do that just fine all by itself!! Thanks for posting another great video. Cheers.
+pete b Ah, ok. My engine bay is usually cleaner but I had loosened the oil filter housing cap earlier and then started my engine which caused the mess.
Awesome job! the only thing i do different with my 328i's is to wipe off the filter cover and threading with a clean paper towel and do the same to the threading in the filter housing. Aside from that, you did great job!
You seem to have done your homework, good job Tara :) watched the video with quite a "critical eye" and could not find anything to complain about :) Like Tara did here it is important to fully loosen and even lift it a bit but not remove the oil filter cover first, that is because you don't want the oily filter to mess everything up on your engine bay but even more you want the oil filter housing to drain the oil inside it down to the oil pan and this only happens after you have lifted the cover a bit so those O-rings are free. Now after doing this job Tara, think about how easy this job would be on a lift :P
Narration is even toned and controlled...while the live audio captures how it really is doing almost any work on our cars.. Outburst, cursing, and damning the engineering teams are a part of it.. Your outburst while working are hilarious for that reason..
Don’t use that breaker bar on the plastic oil filter cap, use a regular size ratchet wrench instead. Otherwise you may over tighten the cap and break it.
That was really good! I've not thought to use a coin to open the drain plug cover. even a large flat head doesn't work great. the best tip on that is laying some card under the car - I never thought to do that.
Great job Tara, just changed my oil change on my 335is last weekend, wish I could baby it.. I do way too much driving, I did 10k km in 2 months. I'll probably be changing my oil again by may >.
That's the first time I have ever given a like for a video on how to change oil... actually I think that's the first time I've ever watched a video on how to change oil... you must be doing something right... I watch the whole thing???
good job and great video Tara, i recommend oil specs for your car must choose BMW Longlife-04 and it doesn't matter which brand. i think this choice is more accurate for your car. Take care.
Tara next time get a vacuum pump remove the dip stick place the suction tube there and it will vacuum out the oil. No need to get under the car to remove the oil pan plug.
Tara, u used 0w40.. is this the M3 or 335i?.. I use 5w20 in the 330 but heard that I need to use 5w30 for the 335i.. I may go 0w30 just to get better flow when cold..
Great video Tara. You made one small mistake that can cause a problem. You put the large oil filter o ring against the bottom of the cap when it's supposed to go into the groove that sits about 1/8 of an inch from the edge of the cap. If you left it in your car this way you might have a small leak.
Good vid. The only thing I'd suggest for next time or other people, is to use a jack stand with a flat top, and buy some generic jack pads made for BMW's. They're cheap. They fit inside those blocks where you supported the car, and saves them from getting crushed. Also, I always chock the wheels, even with the e-brake on.
Was going to suggest investing in some ramps but your car is low. Make sure you saturate your filter with oil before installing it . Great video tho.good for you for doing it yourself.
You don't need to replace those gaskets unless they are damaged or warped. Absolutely do not use any brand filter besides BMW brand or MANN (whom makes the BMW filters). Make sure you push and turn the filter when you get it in the oil cap or you are going to crush it on installation. Every fucken Valvoline and Pennzoil oil change place does this. Do not tighten the oil cap with a wrench or you are going to split the cap or strip the aluminum on your engine. Replace that washer at least once every 3 oil changes. If someone else is changing the oil for you do not let them replace it because it takes more torque to compress that copper washer and they will over torque it and strip your drain plug. Don't pill oil in were the oil filter goes. You're better off pouring a little bit of oil on the filter itself. You're only going about 3/4 of a second before the oil hits the top of the engine anyways.
lmao.
I have been a auto service technician for 15 years and i must say, you did the oil change 100x much better than all the lube tech i have seen. lol.
