Have to ship in my machine for repairs and this was the most helpful video i could find on this topic. Thanks!
+Andrey V You're welcome. Happy to help!
Best video I have seen.Buying this type of machine there is little or no information. Thanks for that.
Hi Robert, Thank you for the comment!
Mark, thanks for asking questions, otherwise the purpose of this video had little value. A follow-up video should mention what to do in case you get air in the lines after having the machine out of use for a while, which will, from my experience, be for certain.
Hi bgm, you're welcome! We do have many machine specific videos on force priming for air in lines and machines with dry locked vibration pumps. The general fix is forcing water using a priming bulb, turkey baster or similar into an intake line as the pump starts to run.
Marc
Perfect, exactly what I need to see
Awesome! Thanks for the comment.
I asked ECM and They don't seem to share that opinion. I'll contact them again. Thnkx, you guys are great!
Hmm... interesting and surprising as a partial disassembly of the machine is required to descale. Here's a quote from the Synchronika manual:
important
Please make sure that only your authorized ECM-deal
er connects the machine to the water supply
and installs the pressure regulator and shut off va
lve.
To avoid calcification of the machine a water-softe
ner is recommended.
The machine may only be descaled by your specialise
d dealer because a partial disassembly of the
boiler and the tubing may be necessary to prevent t
he system from being blocked by lime residues.
A late descaling can cause substantial damage to the machine
Manual here: www.ecm.de/espresso-maschinen/ecm-home-line/dualboiler-espressomaschinen/synchronika/
I'll check with them again as well. Thnkx.
Question unrelated to draining machines: I have a couple of double-spout chrome-plated portafilters that after only a few months of use started to smell funny (a metallic, brass-like smell) and appeared to be exposing the brass in the inside of the portafilter (and I think that's where the smell is coming from). I washed them after every single use. I've tried Cafiza without success. Because I believe the chrome was wearing off (into my coffee... urgh), I ended up buying a bottomless portafilter and stopped using the regular ones. Though sometimes I use them when I want to split a double shot. Anyways... do you guys know if this is a common issue? Any way to avoid it? Once it's already happening, any way to revert or improve it?
Dear Todd,Dear WWL employees,
Thank you very much for the meaningful video!
Best regards,Petar
P.S. BTW, I will be more than happy if I have the chance to see Todd in front of Alex Duetto to show how the espresso cod look like! Cheers!
+Petar Rusev Petar, Thank you for your comments! Look for some vids with the Alex coming in the new year.
+Whole Latte Love Thank you! You are #1! 😃
Dear WLL Team, Happy New Year!!! 😃 I wish you all the best! Please, advise how it is possible to regulate the bee pressure on Expobar Brewtus IV plumbable version (mains/water reservoir)? I remember Todd's video, but it was only for water reservoir version. Thanks, Petar
+Petar Rusev Hi Petar and Happy New Year to you as well. Here's a link to a PDF file with the procedure: www.dropbox.com/s/gpdv1ia0309jyql/Adjusting%20the%20pump%20pressure%20on%20a%20Rotary%20Pump.pdf?dl=0
Thank you guys!
Hi, thank you for this video. I just have a question. I have an Izzo Alex Duetto 3. I noticed that when I get hot water from the spigot there is some sand-like particles. I'm wondering if I drain my steam boiler It will help me address that issue. Thanks
Hi zxyti, Certainly would not hurt! Sand like particles sounds like it could be scale. If you do a lot of steaming without turning water over in the steam boiler over time the concentration of scale causing minerals will increase in the boiler. Problem can be compounded if you happen to have hard (mineral rich) water supplying the machine. This video: How to Stop or Reduce Scale Buildup in Dual Boiler machines has some good info for you: ruclips.net/video/aR1RLPVYza8/видео.html
how can i drain my Rocket R Nine One? I descaled it, but couldn`t really drain the espresso boiler.
I have run 30 liters of fresh water through, but thats how it mixes. So i can`t get this descaling-taste out of it.
Will this procedure work if the boiler cannot be brought up to pressure? Just more slowly? Or won't it work at all? Thanks!
Hi Ben, Good question. It will work for the brew boiler without heating the machine. That was the second boiler drained in the video. For the steam boiler (the first one drained into the coffee can) it will not. It's the steam pressure that forces the water out of the boiler.
Can you do a video on descaling the ECM Synchronika?
Hi JG, Thanks for the question. ECM does not recommend consumer descaling of dual boiler machines. Descaling should be done professionally. What we recommend is using water filtration systems that when used properly eliminate the need to descale.
Is there a video showing the same on the bezzera group head for example the duo top with the volumetric dosing?
Hi l, we do not have a video on draining the Duo. For the steam boiler it's the same as shown in this video. For the coffee boiler you would need to open up the machine and remove a pipe from the boiler to gain access to siphon off or gravity drain the boiler.
@@Wholelattelovepage thanks for the fast response. Will have a look once its time 👍🏻
May I know if it works for Bezzera Duo MN? I'm shifting and need to ship it in long distance. Thx a lot.
Hey Kenny, Yes this procedure will work for Dual boiler machines with E61 group like the Bezzera Matrix MN.
Marc
So a hx machine would be the same without the need to drain the group presumably?
Hi s, Here's our video on draining HX machines: ruclips.net/video/ln25nJbyQQc/видео.html
Whole Latte Love That's great, thanks for the reply.
I have always wondered how the heating element is protected if you drain the boiler. I am not aware of these machines having a manual filling switch for the boiler feed water. Does the control box know that there is no water and therefor does not turn on the heating element?
Hi S88, Most all boilers have water level probes to trigger pump to fill the boiler and most will not turn on heating element if water is low. For most machines with water reservoirs, low water level in the reservoir prevents the heating element from being energized as well.
@@Wholelattelovepage AFAIK not all dual boiler machines have water level probes on both boilers, some only have it on the steam boiler. What's the best way to protect the brew boiler heating element after a drain if it doesn't have a probe?
Hi Marc & Todd,
I drained the brew boiler on the dual boiler brewtus like in the video and now i’m trying to refill the brew boiler. But when i turn on the machine the pid indicates that the boiler is heating with no water inside! It doesn’t start to auto fill. When i turn the brew lever up, the pump kicks in and starts to refill the boiler. Is this potentially damaging to the heating element? Maybe disconnect while filling? I hope you can help me out…
Greetings,
Friso
And by the way thanx for the great videos!
Hi Friso, Thanks for the kind comment and question. When turning on the machine do as you did and immediately lift the brew lever so the boiler fills. Let the pump run until water comes from the group head. No need to disconnect the element.
@@Wholelattelovepage Thanx!
Had the same issue with my ECM Classika PID. Just go into PID temp menu right after the machine turns on. Just as "t 1" flashes up in PID display the heating element gets shut down by the PID Controller. After that you can apply standard refill procedure.
Would this process work for a non E61, like a Mini Vivalsi II S1 ? If not, what to do?
Hi p, No, this is specifically for E61.
Is E61 just for the year the grouphead size was forged, or does that also mean a single boiler? As there are smaller heads with a 3way solenoid valve, and I think the Mini Vivaldi is one of them. Thank you!@@Wholelattelovepage
Hello .. i seen this before in your best channel , but now i need to do it because i have dual boiler machine , i have A problem , that is sound appear in first 1 sec pre infusion when brewing like ( tooooot ) sound in rotary pump, some said thats because Air with water in pump , really i dont know whats the problem, sometimes appear 80% , i have direct pumping in bottle water because the machine without reservoir and in first use i didnt use check valve , i dont know what is best recommendation for this sound appear in pump !!! also i will try this method, i hope its one of motr solutions. thank you .
Hi GA, Thanks for the question. As others have said it sounds like you might have some air reaching the pump. It's usually possible to run rotary pump machines using the plumbed in connection from a water bottle. If the vertical drop from the pump to the water source is too much the pump may have trouble priming. In that case decreasing the vertical distance from the water source to the machine should help alleviate the problem. A check valve preventing back flow in the line might help as well.
Marc
Whole Latte Love Thank you .. when i try to change position and the line of water pump that came from my machine , the sound disappeared. that main the main problem was Air in pump .. thank you 🙏
Hey guys! I won't be using my coffee machine (profitec 600) for 45 days, do I need to drain it?
Hi T, You could if desired and definitely should if the machine will experience freezing temperatures. But not a big deal if you do not drain. Recommend flushing at least a liter through the steam boiler after last use and flushing both boilers with same on restart.
Hi, does this also work for descaling the dualboiler? Thx
It depends. Some manufacturers do not recommend home user descaling dual boilers. What type of machine do you have and I can research for you if you would like. Also, check the manual for your machine. If you do not have one most all are available online.
Hi, i have a Vibiemme Junior Dualboiler.
Ed Ventscher
Hi Ed, we do not sell that machine but I did come across this info which suggest descaling should be done by an authorized machine tech: www.espressocare.com/assets/uploads/DESCALING-VBM-He-Ex%201-14-11.pdf
Thx, this will help, if this is the way of professionals.
can i do this for my brewtus iv?
Hi RL, Thanks for the question. It should work.
Will this work on a one boiler appartamento - boiler will not heat :(
Hi Jon, search our channel for draining a heat exchange boiler machine. It’s a lot easier than doing a dual boiler.
@@Wholelattelovepage struggling to find one where you do not heat it - can you post a link for a dead machine drain ... thank you :)
Any tips on how to properly drain a single boiler machine? I have a Silvia and I drained it once by turning it upside-down and running the pump dry in the water dispensing position, so the water came out through the steaming wand. It did the job but it was kind of a mess because the wand tip points up so it was tricky to catch the water. I'm sure you guys do this all the time and have a better procedure.
now how do I drain the steam boiler if my machine won't heat up
Hi, Don't know what machine you have. In most cases you can drain a cold steam boiler by laying the machine with the steam wand side down and opening the steam valve. To help it drain faster remove the steam tip from the wand when draining. This works as the steam comes off the top of the boiler. To get out the most water possible tip the machine's bottom up a bit while laying on its side.

How do I descale this machine?
Hi Wilson, I responded to your comment on another video with it's best to have a professional descale dual boiler machines. There is a risk of loosening scale deposits during descaling that can plug internal components. That said, if you are certain you have little or no scale in the machine you can descale (still a risk) by filling boilers with descaling solution then using the process in this video to drain the boilers. Following draining refill boilers and run a reservoir or 2 of water through them.
You have amazing videos, we're coffee consumers are very fortunate 😀 to have you sharing this knowledge!
I'd really appreciate if you could answer a few queries I have following watching your informative How To vids
1. Marc mentioned before the chances of damaging internal components. Which of them has he referred to that are not in single boilers?
2. I have the Rancilio Pro and they have automatic boiler draining feature. Are they as good as turning the machine physically upside-down as you've shown here?
3. Re descaling, I am aware of the recommendations. Hence, to ensure it gets into good hands, when I send it over, what exactly should I expect the professional technician to do when they descale the boilers?
Will they take out the boilers or leave them and do it with filling out the boilers?
Will they remove other internal components before descaling?
I've read different two boiler descaling possibilities and I have no idea who to count on.
I don't want to end up with someone saying it was my fault that the machine got broken 😅
Many thanks for any response! You rock anyway if you don't 😆
