I like how you guys are back reviewing normal people cars regularly. Keep it up please!
We are loving the lack of views on the normal cars 😂 jk but seriously plz watch them because we love doing normal cars
@@TheStraightPipesit's not you, the RUclips algorithm is just doing you dirty now. I'll click on any straightpipes video I see first but I haven't seen your guys videos in my recommendations in a month or more no cap
You're looking at 60 grand starting price after tax and financing at these current interest rates. That's almost $1000 a month. And that's if you can even get one due to Toyota making people wait years for any new car.
What's more likely is what Yuri says where they end up selling a "used" one with 5000km on the dash for 20 grand over MSRP and you're looking at paying what was an average Canadian mortgage 5 years ago.
Everybody loves regular car reviews lol
The price of cars we considered normal are not normal any more
You’re so right about how no other journalists are talking about the brake feature. Thanks for keeping it real and not drinking the Hawaii trip kool-aid.
I’m just messing around. They honestly might not have had a chance to really notice it because trips are very hectic. All our fellow video car reviewers are great!
If you press and hold the cruise control button on the wheel, it will go into constant speed hold, like a traditional cruise control. And will still have the Pre-Collision Assist enabled for safety.@@TheStraightPipes
Trust… it’s a good feature
Especially if you let your wife drive it
@@TheStraightPipes18:22
The Toyota RAV4 is their volume leader, and the Grand Highlander styling is based on the RAV4. makes complete sense to use their volume leader as a blue print for a larger 3 row hauler. (not a Corolla Cross imo)
Exactly right
Agree but therefore it should have been named the Grand RAV4.
@@nicholassmith7048 maybe the GRAV4?
@@ultradaves🥇
That auto braking feature is called PDA (Proactive Driving Assist). You can turn that feature off without changing how the PCS works.
THANK YOU
I love these guys car reviews they always look like they're having a ton of fun just reviewing cars.
I got my GH hybrid max a few weeks ago and put already 2700km on it. It’s very comfortable and no complain. 9.5L/100km for now what I have.
Am I the only person who somehow didn't know this car existed?
I was also unaware of this vehicle's existence.
Yes
Just started selling in July 23
Our family test drove a Grand Highlander and we really liked it, it was a lot bigger than our Pallisade, we also loved the heated and cooled seats in the rear as well. The one we had for the test drive was the Platinum Hybrid Max. It’s kinda weird to say but the power from that motor is kinda interesting, like coming from a Palisade, it felt like weird to have such a big car move so quickly 😂. Plus I also for comfortable in the back at 5’11.
Someone recently complained about the panels vibrating but I think it’s cos Toyota switched to Aluminum on the doors, hood and trunk on the Grand Highlander compared to using steel on their other cars
Are you experiencing the breaking issue by any chance?
@@MooreMoney we don’t own it yet, our order is meant to get here next week, but on the test drive, I did notice the car would start breaking for you, it doesn’t really bother me but I can definitely see why some people won’t like it
@@alwaysiyi272 That makes sense, I dont get mine until 2024, but it seems like if it's a major bother, you can turn it off.
Why Toyota only changed to aluminium not other manufactureres? Toyota focus only cost cutting from all redisgns starting from 2012 Camry...it is just becoming evident here in their big version grand highlander too now.that's all
you guys are my favorite car reviewers cause you actually review regular cars that people might seriously consider
Thanks for watching the regular cars
At least in the United States, Limiteds have power folding mirrors. There’s an auto button on the driver’s door so when you lock the doors the mirrors fold.
Also you can zoom in on any corner of the surround view when in reverse so you can see what’s happening at each wheel regarding a curb or similar object. Just simply touch whatever corner you want to zoom in on.
And as for the braking, it would help to make sure PDA is off and set the collision mitigation to late.
It looks way better. I'd love this front end on the smaller highlander
I love mine so far as a people hauler (4 kids + wife). Same trim and color minus the sunroof. The side mirrors do in fact auto fold when locked if you activate them. I plan to order the optional 20” satin black wheels with snow tires soon. Great review guys!
Couldn’t do the Sienna huh 😉😀
I totally get it. I am in the same boat….I know the minivan is even more practical than this, but I still would rather get something other than a minivan that still has tons of room but doesn’t cost a $100k like the Escalade/Denali/Ford stuff:)
Would you recommend it for family of three?
Went in looking for a Sienna and was told it was a 6 month wait with deposit. In hindsight I believe this is better.@@TobyCostaRica
@@02wlekim how so? I like the Grand Highlander too but 20 extra CF behind the 2/3 rows, sliding doors, super long slide seats allowing for a car fridge I can reach from the driver seat. Low entry height, my 5 year old can stand straight up. My 3 year old can get in herself.
I’ll be in a SUV again later (GX550 or LC) but for now the minivan is king for me.
I am amazed that you guys missed the fact that it looks like a giant Rav 4 from the back and the sides
Please do more normal car reviews. The viewers would appreciate it and it helps in the car buying process.
Thank you for covering things that you can't learn from the website: ride quality, cabin noise, weird safety features, vibrations.
These family hauler reviews are much appreciated. I’ll be picking up my CX-90 PHEV this weekend!
Did you drive other vehicles before deciding cx 90 phev, such as GH or pilot? Dud you drive cx 90 turbo?
Did*
You're going to love it.
@@FRauf-n4rNone of those go 30 miles of all electric range.
@user-bm7ml1hr9s those other other vehicles feels nothing like the CX90 you need to check out my car soon. Will allow you to see it. Cx90 is the best SUV right now under the X5
It's always crazy to hear about winter tires, especially since I live in socal where winter doesn't normally exist.
Great job informing the consumers about the pre collision system being an iffy feature Im sure it will save lives!!! 🙏🏽
The brake “feature” is the proactive driver assist “PDA”. Cool feature, but we instantly turned ours off.
Yeah it's great in theory but I turn it off when renting Toyotas. Regular adaptive cruise control has improved massively though!
If it's a cool feature, why do you instantly turn it off?
Is it permanently defeatable? Is it a hard button to defeat this nonsense?
Test drive the Grand Highlander back in December. It was great all around BUT the brakes felt sub-par.
Attempting a 0-40 "emergency" stop surprised me how long it took to actually stop. Great vehicle BUT it need bigger/better brakes.
Great review! I went to my Toyota dealer to put a deposit down and was told it could easily take 6 months to a year for them to allocate the model and trim I’m looking to purchase, Hybrid Limited AWD, which is a real bummer. From a manufacturing perspective I don’t understand why Toyota doesn’t build to order… I get demand is crazy high for these but why must potential buyers hope they will get matched to the vehicle versus it being a guarantee.
Toyota has to keep the assembly lines moving, they can't stop while they wait for more hybrid batteries.
Parts are still an issue for certain Toyota models unfortunately. The plant where this vehicle is assembled makes the Grand Highlander, the regular Highlander, the Sienna, and the Lexus TX; needless to say, they're buried in work trying to catch up.
@@funnyfarm299it was Toyotas plan to hybridize everything… you’d think with Siennas having a one year waitlist, they’d be sweating right now, but hey, a lithium mine was just discovered in Nevada coincidentally.
Build to order will be more expensive.
@@cyberathlete Toyota doesn't do build to order unfortunately; it's all dependent on the dealerships allocation and the potential build a customer wants getting approved by the plant that makes the vehicle
Hood fluttering is a seriously annoying issue. Thank you for mentioning it
Came for the review. Stayed for the thumbnail
“Nice long hard shifter” is crazy!
I appreciate the honesty in this review.
Sure, these are what sells, but I feel like 90% of people buying large SUVs for family duty would be better off with a minivan, but they don't want to be seen in a minivan. I've driven both with a bunch of passengers and cargo and every time the minivan absolutely slaughters SUVs for interior comfort and usable storage space. The only advantage you get is marginally more ground clearance, which most people never take advantage of.
When people are concerned with what people think when they drive a minivan, this is where the problem lies and no wonder why everyone is always broke. In non western world no one gives a damn on what you drive
Hey Toyota, the ratio of black plastic cladding to grandness of vehicle seems about right. This makes the Grand Highlander look more premium than the Corolla Cross or Rav4
For almost $60,000 for higher trims, way too much plastic
No plastic would be great wouldn't it? I'm trying to figure out who wants the plastic. Or is it a manufactures cost savings? @@carman0429
Hey Toyota, how about actually sending cars to North America.
I like the styling of this way more than the standard Highlander. Gone is the Bubble Guppy overstyled mish-mash look for a more coherent, traditional look, ala 4Runner. Kudos Toyota!
Toyota needs to address the shit tuning on the 2.4 turbo. There is plenty of hesitation and surging at low rpm medium load that they will not acknowledge. Running 91+ fixes everything. Does not run correctly on 87. Biggest problem is that the problem doesn't surface until the vehicle is out of it's learning period (3500 miles+)
Thanks for sharing. To me the turbo is a big no go.
@@simplelife2967 it's far more usable than the 3.5. You needed to rev that thing out to get any power from it. It's nice being able to go up a hill with a load and not have the thing screaming
The thumbnail photo shopped version looks better than the real thing 😂
8:43 No, with the hybrid, you get the *eCVT.*
The braking feature is actually called "deceleration assist" and is separate from the pre-collision system. My understanding is that it can be turned off.
In a segment that also includes Palisades, Tellurides, Atlas, XC90's and Pilots how would you rank these cars? Where would you put the Grand Highlander? Would be cool to see you guys do a ranking system of cars you've reviewed or a tier list of some sort!
I’d put the grand highlander towards the very bottom of the list
Mazda CX 90 on top
XC90 is not in the same list, functional model costs a lot more
That clap transition, perfect!!
It would be nice if they put a V6 in there for that kind of money...And, get use the brake feature. I have it on my work truck. It does the same thing when I am in rush hour traffic. It is the coming feature on a lot of car's...
You can turn it off in the setting. I have lexus rx with that feature and I turned it off in the vehicle safety settings. Much better without it
Great to see you reviewing cars that canadians can afford
Always
Had a family member win one of these, so sick!
Fresh cuts, matching shirts? Moist 💦
I have a tundra with the new infotainment, you can change the radio type/source from the steering wheel w/o changing out of apple carplay.
A 4 cyl? We’ve come a long way
"Are we there yet? Are we there yet? Are we there yet? Are we there yet? Are we there yet? Are we there yet? " -Yuri probably.
Toyota should put the normal shifter in the Hybrid Max trim.
Matching tees and fresh cuts, look at these two!
I sharted on the TuxMats in my Ford Super Duty F-350 dually and they're still working great! Thank you, TuxMats!
( PDA ) Proactive Driving Assist is the feature that is coasting the vehicle when you approach other cars from behind. Watch a video on Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 and it will explain all the safety features on the Grand Highlander. It is adjustable and can be turned off without affecting ( PCS ) Pre Collision System.
If this is a Limited trim, it's supposed to have power folding side mirrors. Clearly seen also on the chart in the video. -as a matter of fact, Limited trim is pretty full of what top Platinium trim has but 360 camera, panoramic sunroof and few other things.
"auto-folding" means different things to different manufacturers. For Hyundai, it means it automatically folds when you lock. For Toyota, it simply means there's a button that can do it for you.
@@funnyfarm299on the tundra there is a three position switch. Mirrors out, auto, mirrors folded. If you leave it in auto they fold when you lock it. I don’t know if this has the same switch. If it does it may have been in the first position.
@@funnyfarm299 In Toyota, you need to activate AUTO button next to power folding button on drivers side arm rest. Then, mirrors would be folded automatically when locked up. If you ever fold them manually, it turns off auto function and dont fold mirrors automatically when locked, which i suppose the case here.
Y’all too salty about not getting invited to Hawaii ! Hahah.. 😂
Loved the sarcastic evil laugh at 8:22
😈
My dad went to buy one of these and they said it was over a year waiting list.
Edit I believe he wanted the hybrid max
8:31 to 8:35 I like how yuri try to over funny dramma 😂😂😂😂
Love how Jacob always mentions that half inch of height.
Accuracy is important
Front end reminds me of my old 2nd gen 2012 Highlander
I subscribed because you WEREN'T invited to Hawaii! The reflection joke was perfect. You'll get invited one of these days.
I just bought this week for business purposes. I love it!!! I never thought I will love to drive Toyota.. but this car it’s comfortable like a s-class almost!!!! The 4-cylinder engine it’s pretty powerful for that big body car. A lot of room inside of the car. I totally recommend this car!
Of all the people that frequently don't get invited on lot of these trips (savagegeese, your friends), I am surprised they didn't mention that, they usually hate that kind of a thing.
I generally enjoy their videos and yours, each for a different reason.
But of lot of the reviewers out there, these two channels do a good job of being real and realizing what people will use the vehicles for and what they care about.
Funny how much savagegeese disliked the ride of this vehicle and the straight pipes barely mention it.
Bought a hybrid and loving it.
DAMN! THAT GREEN BIMMER LOOKS SO GOOD. at that point I forgot this is a Toyota review.
0:50 to 1:30 the was the best beginning of the video is was funny how yuri said the difference between Toyota grand highlander and the normal Toyota highlander 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Grand Highlander. Because Toyota thought "Yeah this worked for jeep let's see if it'll work for us"
2:51 front end reminds mind me of between 7th and 8th Gen Highlander.
🅰️ the enthusiasm jake. And awesome haircut bud. Love you both your doing spectacular. 4:55.
that braking function is there to wear the brakes out fast so they can make more money on replacing brakes ...
Front end reminds me of the new Accord
Best new car review channel on the internets!
PDA Proactive Drive Assist, It is quite easy to turn off. Its not tied with collision assist nor ACC, so you can do ACC and LTA without it
This is a very helpful and informative video. Coming back to the point that the adaptive cruise control doesn’t come to a full stop, can you do a review of the Platinum trip that advertises Active Traffic Jam assist. Would that feature help the car to come to a full stop if it sees a car in front?
What’s your opinion on this grand highlander vs the new Honda Pilot. It’s a 18-24 months wait in Canada.
Even though I don’t care about this car, this was one of my favorite reviews. The jokes and honesty was too much fun
I've been waiting for a GR86 since March 2022 in Southern Ontario. I feel your neighbor's pain Yuri.
Yuri is so awesome. The Dodge Hornet comment killed me!
Please do a Lexus TX500 next, so we can compare the two.
They’re literally the same car LOL
Okay, your thumbnail is so right on.
One of the funnier reviews I’ve seen in a while
My limited 2.4 turbo folds in the mirrors when I lock doors
jesus one of those shots from true car showed a grand highlander going for 66k a 4 CYLINDER full sized suv just crazy
7:23 “What’s that Christmas movie”??… “What’s that Christmas movie”?!?!?! It’s THE Christmas movie, Jakub!!
My memory is non existent
Back in the day the Mercury Marquis was a 2 door coupe, while the the Grand Marquis was a 4 door sedan.
I like how it has an Aston Martin grill💀
I’m sure limited trim has folding mirrors
They missed an opportunity. Grand Corolla Cross Durango Max Limited Extreme
I hope you guys review a ‘25 Grand Highlander Hybrid Max when it releases
when you guys hit 2M yall should take your dream cars to Hawaii
So, what is the point of the Toyota Sequoia now then?
Better towing and even more space for cargo.
@@Simon-oq6dsmight want to check the cargo space of the Sequoia compared to this. Sequoia has a compromised cargo area due to hybrid battery placement
10:10 In the Corolla Hybrid it feels more natural and progressive. But in this bigger SUV it makes you brake check the car behind you 😅
The thumbnail 😂😂😂 stretch it to look like a limousine
Holy crap you guys are reaching 2M!
if you click mode on the steering wheel you will access sat radio fyi
But then you still have to click 11 times to start scrolling through stations
@thestraightpipes - In my car, adults ride in the 3rd row quite regularly. Why? Family of 4 (including 2 kids in child seats). So if anyone wants to ride with us, they have to go into the third row.
I have a Grand Highlander Limited (Moonlight) just like the one in this video and my side windows fold when I lock my car. The button to ensure that happens is inside the car on the drivers side.
Yay! TuxMat. I was looking at Mitsubishi's and they all had TuxMats - did they partner with them too?
It’s a shame that Toyotas quality is declining. The hood rattle, the stupid braking, etc. They need to do something otherwise other manufacturers are gonna take their lead away
Exactly, I was so disappointed with my 2023 Tundra, I sold it within a week. For the prices Toyota is asking, much better products out from other manufacturers.
For this price you could get a GLE from Mercedes or even an X5 from BMW, might be more expensive maintenance but at least you’re getting something that was built correctly.
This is 1st year production model. And Tundra’s 2nd year model. I get what ur saying, but trust me, the equivalent Ford and Chevy is way worse with these new ones
@@keithcrandall1369 you’re not wrong both my 2023 Yukon and 2022 CT5 had transmission issues

VW has safety features not intrusive and just behave like assist systems whether it is lane keep assist or forward collision which I love in my 2018 VW Atlas
That’s very untrue, my 2019 SEL Jetta had so many false positives causing me to emergency brake out of nowhere.
One of the worst cars I owned, definitely miss the old VW like my 2015 Jetta
@@JamesCook76131You might be tailgating the shit out of people 😂.
@@DM72513 nope, it would happen mostly on bridges and if the sun was out, I don’t tailgate. None of my Mercedes or BMW’s have done it, only my VW. Definitely something wrong with the system. I drive over 85k miles a year, so I go through tons of cars and know what works and what doesn’t
120 + years of car designs and manufacturing and this is what comes out in 2023, this boring monotonous box on wheels is what people want, wow says a lot for humanity today
That's funny about the hood. My mother has a Venza (which by the way has power folding mirrors) and that hood vibrates too
Hey guys do a Toyota Grand Highlander Hybrid Max review please! 😁
Tha pre collision issue seems pretty bad. Hopefully it’s a bug that can be fixed with a software update because that’s not good!😊
wireless carplay charger has a very weak magsafe feature that works OK when your phone is out of a case.
My 2023 Corolla Hatch has this braking feature. Had to turn it off ASAP!
