Good to see the clips of the 1970s version I think TVNZ should release the full version of this to RUclips or stick it on their 50 years of TV site. Like the 1980s version we all know now seems to have several uploads on RUclips and TVNZ have it on their site plus you can watch it on TVNZ6 but the 1970s version I doubt anyone has it was not like their were VCRs around for people to record it back then.
I remember when visiting New Zealand in 1978, everyone was asking me if I had seen the Goodnight Kiwi. So, after that, I decided to stay up and watch it out of curiosity and I was certainly not disappointed as a result. The Goodnight Kiwi was always very well presented in all the versions and was really something special to look forward to seeing at the end of the day. We actually had a Goodnight Kangaroo here in Australia on our 7 Network.
i remember sometime around 1995, maybe 1994, when they screened the whole thing on holmes, as people wrote in about it going off air, that was the first time i had in fact seen the goodnight kiwi
The original version had to be re-edited, as viewers were writing in asking: "how did the cat get into the microwave dish". The 2nd version showed to lift coming back down the tower ( indicating that the cat had already used it to get up to the top of the transmission mast. )
