As someone who does not celebrate Christmas anymore when I was a kid I would always hear things like “Christmas is not about the presents, but spending time with family and that’s what matters”, but I would always focus on the presents. I would compare how many gifts I got to other kids, and have a list miles long. Only when I stopped celebrating Christmas did I truly realize I didn’t need any of those things and even when I had them I still was comparing what I had. If I could go back I’d focus on spending time with my family more and being grateful. I teared up a bit when the kid showed his Christmas list. If anyone is wondering I still make cookies with family and spend time with them around the holidays. I just don’t do the decorating or presents part. :)
