designs like this make their islands look 5x bigger than everyone else's. amazing skill
multiple big areas and smooth transitions make the place feel bigger. long hallways or walkways make the island feel smaller if they don't feel like a destination that matters.
Many destinations is more memories.
Fewer destinations and long walks inbetween is less memories because you just breeze by them.

It’s the density of details that has that effect. There’s so much going on in a small space that a short distance can feel like a totally different place.

I’ve seen the trick with the doll houses a few times but I would’ve never thought of using the server items as far away looking skyscrapers? I lost my shit when I saw them and was so shocked that she didn’t point it out

This island is crazy, It feels like it could be a real place, and I personally don't like forced perspective too much, but the way he's done it in this video is really really good.
yeah usually forced perspective looks terrible but by making it the background of the path like that it is naturally integrated and i was initially convinced that he'd somehow made a mountain when i saw the thumbnail. it looks so good
what does forced perspective refer to?
@@tate4399 putting objects in the background or foreground to make something look bigger/smaller in scale which mimics different perspectives. So for example the big curve with houses in the background makes it look like a cliff with a neighborhood in the distance separated by forests. Often people will use the mini cars or houses to make things look further away like that... It also has to do with his house to make it seem like a garage, basically anything that requires you too look at it a certain way is forced perspective.
It's not always believable looking though people are wary of it sometimes.

His cul-de-sac is life. Not only is it unbelievably realistic but it’s just soooo beautiful! The little touches like the scooter, trash cans, etc is simply brilliant. These types of high-level content creators need to be employed by Nintendo or some other gaming company because they can offer so much more complexity and design to what is a relatively simple game because you’re right, his designs have changed this game.

Some people just have a gift. Colin is clearly gifted with creativity. It just comes naturally to some people and I'm jealous. Wouldn't be surprised if he's really good at drawing either.

Nah I think skills like this can always be developed with practice. Might take some longer than others, but really comes down to dedicating enough time.

It's actually a bit disrespectful to reduce someone's hard work to a "giftedness". Some people might have more natural talent but without the hard effort to develop it, it's still just a starting point. :)
Nah, this took a long time. Anyone willing to invest the time, can do it. I think a lot of people get frustrated, with it being in real time and all.
@@Pit1993x how was I disrespectful? I was giving him a major compliment. I didn't state that this wouldn't have been hard work, of course it was. I can't imagine how much time this would have taken. But even if I had the same amount of time put in to play I really don't think it would be at the same level of greatness as this. Hence why I said some people have a gift and are just very good with creativity. I have no idea how you managed to twist that into being disrespectful?
I ADORE his island so much. It has so much character to it, like there's a story to each resident. It's actually unbelievable.
I was building a fall themed island anyway but as soon as that path released, I immediately changed up my entire design. I love the street path so much. Now I have to wonder... will he make a version of it that replaces the leaves with snow for the winter months.
How cool would it be to get plowed snow piles to really make the paths look realistic??

I usually have a hard time liking the use of cliffs/panels/objects to make buildings but the little corner store and the garage looked SO good that my jaw dropped. Colin did such a good job!

@@frogoverlord3471 I bet it's not as trash as you let on us to believe. If you have a very clear vision of what you want, it is slightly easier to gather stuff that could work with it. I find easier to make rooms than outdoors though. Terraforming is slow but making or searching custom designs is slower.
The hardest part about this game is finishing your island and not wanting to get rid of it, but then seeing such amazing creative ideas you want to implement!
I'm just halfway through the video but I can definitely tell that this Moon Island will definitely benefit on the Permanent Ladders that the upcoming update will have!!!

I've watched this video so many times because I'm so deeply in love with the island he created. The diagonal roads, the late fall lighting, just everything about this is so beautifully nostalgic I wish I could live on this island.
8:05 yeah, one of the things that stands out the most to me is how well he made ugly items look so good and feel so natural within his overall design. Things I would normally consider wasted junk items, he has made into really cook props.
Colin crossing blew me away with his designs and creativity, Moon makes you want to move there 🍂

The diagonal paths are amazing! They add an almost surreal amount of depth to the island because I’m not sure if it’s just me but they look sloped even though they aren’t and I love it

Watching this took me back to these calm October afternoons with my cousin, going places we shouldn't, the basketball court in the drive way and having to yell "Car!" as a single vehicle came slowly our way...the old forgotten house no kid ever went to, some said the last occupants were murdered you know...it's smashed in windows and rotting wood exterior as the paint oozed off the walls from rain fall, they said you could hear the clamoring of footsteps at night in there of thick heavy boots, the pattering of metal tools at times as a nefarious act was plotted.
Though that got torn down long ago by now and a lavish house takes it's place today, I still wonder, was the spirit ever put to rest? We may never know.
No joke there were a lot of dilapidated houses near the end of that old road, and farther into the overgrown weeds with a steel gate at the roads end, near the farmland a few miles. We were so scared of that, and even creepier there was a old tree miles off with no houses but a single tire swing and the story of a murder dumping spot that happened there, gives me a chill recalling that place. Happy Halloween everyone!

This island is so amazing, oh my gosh. I can’t get over the creativity and beautiful aesthetic!!! The tiny village has got to be one of the best ideas I’ve ever seen on any island!! WOW. I also looooved the garage and the gas station. Those were both soooo well done and convincing; they looked so realistic and seamless 😮 can’t wait to visit this dream address!!

I visited the dream address from the description and this island is truly amazing! I liked it very much!
I need a while to get to the upper black house as well as to the upper street with the distant view of the doll houses. If you visit with the dream address you have no ladder and Colin didn't leave any ladder lying around open. So I need to find out that he put some green Mario tubes at the end of some of those street dead ends. If you are in front of a Mario tube just press A and the character will be randomly transported to another Mario tube on the island. This could transport you to the unaccessible upper street with the distant view as well as the upper black house. But if you have bad luck of cause you can also be transported to some cliffs and get stuck. I managed to jump from the cliff back into the tube one level deeper by pressing A but you could also use the emergency service on the Nook phone to get out there.
for my island i wanted to make a forest village and have a little hiking trail, seeing this makes me so amazed at how he made the road with the trees and houses in the distance :,,D looks like i gotta work harder LOL

I visited the dream, and was a little concerned when I saw it had switched to a winter theme (what, did I think it would be unchanged in a year? 😅), but I was SO excited to see that the "uphill" road at 9:46 is still on his island. I am trying to base my island on where my family lives in the mountains of New Mexico, and that road (except dirt, not paved) is exactly what it looks and feels like to drive to see them.
So spooky! I don’t do reservations to my island, so Halloween is just bamboo and cherry blossom piles, lol 🌸

I came across this video looking for inspiration for a spooky island and this is one of the best islands I have seen.
I wanted to go for city/natural, I tore mine down and haven’t played in about 6 months until I heard about this update so I’m frantically trying to fix my island 🙃 this is amazing! 😍

Colin is so creative and i love all his codes! I just wish I could use them because he missed some of those skinny horizontal and vertical pieces of those fall leaf dirt paths!
