I’ve read a lot of Dean Koontz books back in my early college years, and a lot of his books I can only imagine helped influence Stranger Things. Including a book called The Door To December, the plot is extremely familiar to the storyline of Eleven. And Watchers has a lot of stranger things vibes as well.
Ya know, I have yet to read anything by Dean Koontz. I definitely need to read some of his stuff, but I honestly had no idea where to start. Thanks for putting these on my radar!
@@ianthereader before you, just know that I read a lot of Koontz in college and I loved his books back then. But the last few years or so, I just couldn’t get back into his writing style, so he’s not really one of my favorites. There are some really good ones though that I have enjoyed recently like Phantoms (which probably inspired IT 👀) Odd Thomas, The Bad Place, Strangers, The Voice of the night. I would try those first
What a great video!! Totally agree on the I am Number 4 series. I read them like 2 years ago, and while it reads pretty young, it was still fun, heart breaking, & action packed. Also agree with the Grady Hendrix books too. They were so surprisingly captivating. Especially given I don't read much horror. Now that I've finished the Dark Tower series, I'm going to start going through King's catalog and start with Carrie.
Nice recommendations. You got me interested in trying 'A Wrinkle in Time' and 'It'. I've never read anything by Stephen King though, his books have always seemed scary weird to me!
I'm going to getting Netflix back this holiday weekend to watch the new season of Stranger Things. Also Umbrella Academy and many others. I haven't had NF for close to a year. I haven't read The Rook but I did watch the TV adaption a few years ago. I liked it but it was cancelled after one season.
I mean, I stopped watching Stranger Things after S2, but the fomo is real right now... and Kyle has been nagging me to continue, so I may cave and start S3 soon. In any case, it sounds like I have some great book to check out now if I want more Stranger Things vibes!! Boy's Life has been popping up everywhere on my radar recently, so I think I should give it a go soon. And Rook sounds super intriguing, I'll have to check that one out! Thanks for all the recs 🤩
I actually stopped watching after S2 as well but finally watched S3 last month and I am SO GLAD I DID! It just got better and better! Yes!! You should totally try Boy’s Life, it is amazing! And I hope you like The Rook!
@@ianthereader Aaaah you're not helping with the fomo, haha. I will give it another shot soon and tell you how I feel. Fingers crossed I will have the same experience as you!
This is not only a super cool video idea, but a great list of recommendations too. I’ve only read A Wrinkle in Time of the ones you mentioned, but several of them I now really want to read. And how good is ST4! I still need to watch the finale (probably tonight), but holy cow is it good! -T
I’m glad that I was able to recommend some books! Hope you enjoy! And yes, ST has been such a delight to watch, especially after the disappointment that was Obi-Wan Kenobi last month.

Wow, I’m so jealous of you for not having read any King yet! That means you have so many amazing books to experience for the first time!

I had no idea there was a show for The Rook! That’s too bad that it only got one season.

Ordinary Monster sounds similar to Umbrella Academy to me. I’m intrigued by it.
I haven’t watched Umbrella Academy yet, but I’ve heard that comparison! I hope you like it!
Great video! Love the upside down bit. So funny ! Great books. Thank you
Thanks for watching! I had fun with this video, and I recommend all of these books!
