@@apocketfulofheep Big fan of Equinox, Crystal Ball, The Grand Illusion, Pieces Of Eight and the two new ones: The Mission and Crash Of The Crown!!! Great band!!!
Bought this album right after it came out, I was 15 and this song was instantly my favorite on the record and I'm really happy to see it getting the love it deserves...♡
Castle Walls is criminally underappreciated. It deserves to be more well known. Heck, most of the time only a small handful of Styx gets played and their lesser known masterpieces get completely overlooked.
The production on this album is outstanding. I remember as a teen getting into it with a buddy about Styx. He kept laughing when I brought up this album, pop rock he called it. Shi..... This tune and Miss America I then played for him and he didn't say a word. A year later or so I was at his house and got to look thru his records and found this.....lol. This album kicks butt.
This came out just after I turned 12 years old and was one of the first albums I got to buy myself with my birthday money. I played it till it was thin.
Styx were one of the few mainstream American bands to dabble into Prog and this was a great example of this! I always wished they did a lot more of this style. They are still one of my Go to’s! This whole album is absolute FIRE!
"Man in the Wilderness" is a must from this album. Tommy Shaw tells the story of touring with Kansas as his inspiration for man in the wilderness. "Fooling Yourself" is ridiculously good with acoustic guitar and synth work. The whole album is a masterpiece.
@@jeffschielka7845 Great speaker's! I bought my JBL's in 1973 for $275.00 each and still have them, haven't blown them yet. And the new version of L-100's sell for $2200.00 each! Glad I kept mine! 😁
I don't know if you've ever seen the original "Halloween" movie, but that part in the middle sounds like the theme from that movie. Also when the guitar starts playing right after that ends, the tone of it sounds exactly like Brian May's tone on Queen's "A Day at the Races" album.
Most everything has been said on what to do I've seen them three times. Twice with the original lineup. They were better with Dennis DeYoung though They're still playing and are still killer good "I'm a lonely sailor lost at sea. Drifting with the tide. Never quite knowing why" "Sometimes it makes no sense at all" You could compare them to REO SPEEDWAGON before REO changed. their sound. They're currently touring with REO SPEEDWAGON and Loverboy.
Go ahead crawl down the Styx rabbit hole you won't be disappointed And someone please tell me why they're not in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame what a damn shame
Check my handle - Do you think I like this song? :) You finally experienced it! "Man In The Wilderness" and "Fooling Yourself" are 2 more from the great Grand Illusion album. "Castle Walls" has a deep meaning for Dennis DeYoung. He never liked being on the road for so long, away from his family. To me the simple bass at the beginning is Dennis at home behind his castle walls in a calm peace. The harpsichord-sounding keys are like the minstrel in him calling him out. Far beyond his castle walls on tour the battle rages like hell with those harsh keys, echoing drums/thunder, and tough steel-on-steel guitars/swords. There's a brief return to the bass and home, and then back out to the fury to meet his destiny. You've done a number of Styx songs, but there are many more. I'd suggest next: "Prelude 12/Suite: Madame Blue" (ruclips.net/video/KOlJPA2tUrw/видео.html). You said you've heard "Come Sail Away", so you could checkout a live performance - from the 1996 Return To Paradise tour: ruclips.net/video/VMFVkGA1Qfw/видео.html
EPIC is the PERFECT word to describe this song & band. Thank you so much for playing this.
Not a problem. I have really been enjoying Styx. Gonna be listening to some more from them.
Styx!!! 👍❤️❤️
Just started listening to them and each song just keeps getting better and better

Styx showing their prog side( although Dennis DeYoung will say it is " theatrical " instead of prog)...excellence
Love it! Same vibe as a lot of Alan Parsons Project, I love the sound.
Hey Wayne! I've blown some speakers on this album in years past. Great album and Castle Walls jams!!😎
You need JBL L100's😂😂
@@billhawkins1236 This was years ago. I have Pioneer Duet D-12's now. Awesome speakers!😎

Your audience doesn't want you to do popular music. It was popular for a reason.

This is the last great album by Styx and it is a masterpiece
Pieces of Eight is fantastic - great, IMO - and Paradise Theater is pretty good, too - though not "great" in my estimation.
Great line eh 😍
