Well, I am 82 with a college degree in music. There is a certain amount of polish that can only be acquired with a certain amount of living on this old globe. Ivan will use his experiences well, I think. I do an enormous amount of listening these days, and I do believe that Ivan will, hopefully, be among those other greats from his country: Gilels, Richter, perhaps Rachmaninoff or Tchaikovsky if he continues his composing. The world is his to conquer. He will need good management and freedom to travel, the talent is already there. The first half of this program is all one needs to be convinced. I hear lines and phrases I never heard before. The passion of his Schumann and the deep sadness in the soul of the Rachmaninoff - Ah! No cookie-cutter playing here. This is sheer musicianship. I can only wish Ivan the very best wishes on his journey in life - and thank him for putting a little beauty in mine.

Никто не принижает заслуг В. Пясецкого, равно как и тех, у кого Иван учился чуть ранее - у В. Руденко, до этого у Э. Маргулис, ещё раньше у О. Курнавиной. Но надо при этом хорошо понимать одну важную особенность этого выдающегося уже сейчас молодого пианиста - он исключительно самостоятелен во всём - в своих занятиях, в нахождении особенностей именно своих, оригинальных трактовок, в понимании не только "что" сделать, но и "как" этого добиться! И примерно 4 (или даже 5) последних лет он, преимущественно, именно "сам себе педагог" - да, очень нечастый случай, но здесь именно так всё и сложилось. Кто-то в одном из комментариев к его выступлениям недавно задавал вопрос - а что ему вообще делать в консерватории? Он же уже сейчас гораздо выше этого уровня! Сложно тут что-либо ответить, ведь по сути это так и есть! Хотя диплом-то всё равно нужен)))

This is the best interpretation of Kinderszenen I've ever heard in my life. This young pianist is a pure genius. His simplicity, his kindness, his total commitment to music, his expressivity without any desire to impress the audience. He chooses a tempo slightly slower than most the others and is able to keep the tension, the simple and tender expressivity of these pieces. Ivan is really unique and we are incredibly lucky to be alive now at the same time as him. Remember Vladimir Horowitz and his interpretation of Reverie with which he was used to end his fantastic concerts. What Ivan Bessonov shows here is of that class, maybe even better ? I followed him now for more than two years but this simple and tender interpretation of Schuman is probably the most striking illustration that we are in front of one of the greatest pianists of this century. I look forward to discovering his interpretation of Kreisleriana to continue the respectful comparison with the best pianist of all times, Vladimir Horowitz. The Russian school of piano is the best of the world, no doubt about that. With Alexander Malofeev and Ivan Bessonov, what a great country, with fantastic professors and artists who put music above everything else as it should be.

Fritz Kreisler's 'Loves Sorrow' (Liebeslied): Extraordinary, a stunning rendition. His playing of that piece makes it so moving. Brilliant! Beautiful. He has a gift.

I have been waiting for this for so long! A truly ground-breaking performance of all these works. Ivan's ability to exploit every potential of the concert grand to meet any demand that the composer may put on it, is breathtaking.The finesse of his technique matches the breadth of his imagination and insight which are, in themselves, things of wonder. One could select any part of this programme to make one's point, but I invite you to listen to 41:21 et seq. or any part of the Bach Partita. The finger-work - in the left hand in particular - is crystal clear where so often it is muddied - bringing the whole work magically to life. Ivan and Alexander Malofeev are the shining lights on the musical horizon of this century - each their own man, but each part of that line of great Russian pianists who have adorned the concert halls of the world for nearly two centuries. Ivan is, without doubt, going to be one of the great interpreters of Bach and Mozart in the modern age.
This surely must be the recital to end all recitals, so broad in scope its bearing. I do not think I have ever heard the music of Rachmaninov disembody itself from the piano as it does when Ivan turns his attention to it. It is truly beautiful . And as has already been noted amongst the comments here, his arrangement of the Kreisler is incomparably beautiful and buoyant despite the underlying sorrow. But then as I often like to think, even tears are the liquid state of Love. Ivan, bless you! What a moment of supreme magic this has been. Thank you!

Ivan, your playing of the Nutcracker Suite will forever be ingrained in my aural circuitry. I doubt the quality and nuance of this performance will ever be repeated or surpassed - perhaps even by yourself. It was extraordinary. There are few truly unique experiences in one’s lifetime. Imagine Ivan loves jazz. This set is very contemporary from other compositions I have heard. And if I have not heard the piece before. Not educated in classical music. Thank you for introducing me to something new.

I wish there was a CD of this recital. Ivan's arrangement of 'Liebesleid' at 1:43:00 is pure magic. Rachmaniniff's Etude Tableaux #5 at 47:40 is also outstanding and among the very best interpretations. I would love to hear him play all the Etudes especially the ones in D minor which have an abundance of inner voicings that escape most pianists.
Could someone please post the entire program in English ... this was a truly phenomenal concert ... perhaps the best I have ever had to pleasure to enjoy ... just spectacular! Bravo Ivan ... bravo!

Привет Свердловску! Впервые я попал в этот зал в 1950-м году. Тогда органа в нём не было, а напротив здания, по другую сторону улицы, стоял дом купца Ипатьева. Чуть выше - живописнейший Дворец пионеров (тоже бывшая купеческая усадьба) и фонтан со знаменитыми бронзовыми лягушками, отполированными до блеска нами, маленькими любителями купания. Дом Ипатьева был разрушен в самом конце 1980-х, а чуть позже (в начале 1990-х) были украдены лягушки.

Ivan, your playing of the Nutcracker Suite will forever be ingrained in my aural circuitry. I doubt the quality and nuance of this performance will ever be repeated or surpassed - perhaps even by yourself. It was extraordinary. There are few truly unique experiences in one’s lifetime. For me this was one of them.

I wish there was a CD of this recital. Ivan's arrangement of 'Liebesleid' at 1:43:00 is pure magic. Rachmaniniff's Etude Tableaux #5 at 47:40 is also outstanding and among the very best interpretations. I would love to hear him play all the Etudes especially the ones in D minor which have an abundance of inner voicings that escape most pianists.

Привет Свердловску! Впервые я попал в этот зал в 1950-м году. Тогда органа в нём не было, а напротив здания, по другую сторону улицы, стоял дом купца Ипатьева. Чуть выше - живописнейший Дворец пионеров (тоже бывшая купеческая усадьба) и фонтан со знаменитыми бронзовыми лягушками, отполированными до блеска нами, маленькими любителями купания. Дом Ипатьева был разрушен в самом конце 1980-х, а чуть позже (в начале 1990-х) были украдены лягушки.
