i remember when me (17) and my big brother(18) went to see this consert and we were both so amazed we had to go on our way back home to buy their debut album and we listened that like 5 times every day for weeks. they are the reason i started play guitar and listen to metal. this is real metal!!
Still 1 of the Best Metal Bands and album ever produced. I've been along for the ride since the early 90s. Lifted Me up in Dark Times and inspired Me to rise. Thanks Stone R;>☆♡~ Word to Your Monster!
I could close my eyes and never have heard this song or band, and tell you this was from the 80's. Music pop and metal, rock was kick ass back then and music writing at it's finest
Seems like this old band gets new audience a generation after generation. But for real this band had a huge impact on finnish metal scene. Back in 80's finnish metal kids listened to Iron Maiden, KISS, WASP, Black Sabbath, Accept, Judas Priest and Stone. Stone sounded something completely new and it was definately one of the pioneers world wide with thrash metal. For some reason especially skateboarding kids here listened to Stone. I guess it pumped up their adrenaline sky high! My guess why this band didn't get success abroad is that the genre was niche in 80's and Finland didn't export any music (except for The Hurriganes and it was popular only in northern Europe) Even Hanoi Rocks had to locate themselves first to Sweden and then US because they had Zero chance to get world famous here. Some claim that for example Guns n Roses wouldn't had sounded like they did without the influence of Hanoi Rocks. Finnish music industry started to export music only after the great success of Darude Sandstorm and Bomfunk MC's Freestyler and Nightwish late 90's. And then it comes to Stone. So what if Metallica "stole" a few riffs here and there from Stone? Stone is probably super proud if they were one of the influencers for one of the biggest bands in the world. And btw young Roope Latvala played guitar in Stone. Later he played guitar in Waltari another great band from Finland people abroad might never heard of. Then he played in Children of Bodom and we can clearly hear "Stone" impact in CoB's favorite albums.
Come back!
Helvetin kova bändi. Muistan kyllä kuulleeni 80-luvulla muutamia biisejä, mutta oon nyt innostunut näin myöhäisheränneenä. Olis varmaan kova sana listoilla ja festareilla näinä päivinä.
@YTisMyPlaylist Yep, there was plenty of heavy metal bands in Finland before Stone, Tarot for instance. But I don't think many did thrash before Stone did. Correct me if I'm wrong.
@juhokopo Vittu mikä huuto siit syntyis jos noi tyypit lähtis syyttää metallicaa riffin pöllimisestä, metallican tyypit valittaa muutenki jo kaikesta. Tästä tulee kyl aik pahasti mieleen peer günt :D. Suomalainen metalli tappaa!
@Helly01 so you mean 'ancestor' by influence of other bands. Very well. I've always associated 'ancestor' with band that changed to the band it's nowadays. Like Shaman to Korpiklaani, IneartheD to COB and so on...
this sounds abit like the enter sandman riff, but this wasnt the song the riff was ripped off. kirk said himself it was from a song by ice-t which had a sample from one of heart's songs. also, how can metallica get battery off this when battery was made before it?
Vittu tuli eilen Tuska festareilla nähtyä Latvala kännissä ja sain jopa nimmarin! Sano että joskus saattaa jopa uus Stone levy tulla mut ei sitä tiiä ku se kännissä oli! Peukut pystyyn kuitenki \,,/\,,/!!

Well, it went down like this. Metallica did an arena show in Finland October 1988. The guys from Stone gave them their new single to listen. "This is what we do up here in the north". Low and behold, next Metallica album has a song with a familiar riff.

80’s thrash still hits differently. Love it!
Holy fucking hell, I just typed in "stoned metalhead" out of boredom and ADHD and found this treasure. Can't believe I never heard of this great band.

Jumalauta! Ikinä kuullut livevideossa bassoa näin hyvin!

I can tell you that they Did sound heavy!!! 😍👍🤘🔥

Agree.
One of the greatest thrash bands of all time!
I hope Lars gave them some royalties for getting that amazing intro.
Lars didn't come up with that riff, Kirk did
Punk Rock vibes in the lyrics, insanity of Anthrax. 2:33 this riff reminds me of the bridge riff from Metallica's Damage Inc. as well
Which now that I think about it is kinda funny bc this song's main riff inspired the most overrated Metallica riff aka Enter Sandman

Asiahan on siis näin että Stone ei pelkästään inspiroinu suomalaista metallia vaan se oli yksi koko Thrash genren pioneereistä.
