Thank you for sharing Lee, I’ve never heard this one before, but it was a a sign of those times I lived through. We were all lied to like we are lied to now. This song is very relevant too today. David Barr
Dad never released it on a recording, only played it live. I believe it was because of his fathers urging. The song closest to this was "'76 Blues + 2" released in '78 on the album "Directions". First written in '76 for the "Whiskey Before Breakfast" album, it was cut due to time. That one is less political and by then "Tricky Dick" was gone.
@ Lee, another song that had a similar message was Highland Light. I like that song too. I thank it was on the Blackberry Blossom album. I live 15 miles from the Brown’s Ferry Nuclear Plant. If you are familiar with The singer Bradley Walker, he works there.
When Dad wrote this his father, Rufus Blake, was concerned by Dad using the term "Tricky" in the song. "Tricky Dick" Nixon was known to send the IRS or others after his opponents or those that criticized him. In 1975 Rufus was audited by the IRS with no issues and in 1976 Dad was audited as well.
@@leeblake3989 Lee- forgot to follow up on this, but did you and your son end up going over family and music history with Norman at some point? Would love to hear it if he lets you upload it to RUclips!
@@RisingFawnArchives I haven't forgotten you. With the strange weather and sicknesses going around this winter, Dad has been cautious about visitors. We talk on the phone, but have not had our sit down yet. I talked to him today and all is ok. I will give you a heads up when things happen.
@@leeblake3989 Good to hear. Makes sense. Let me know! Yeah, oddly snowy in the southern U.S. this winter, prepping for a snowstorm here in Austin, TX.
Some of his best writing.
