Surf fishing is a lot of fun, I wish the fish were bigger to put up a better fight. I use similar set up as you Fray, floating spawn and fish off bottom but for steelhead when they start staging for their winter run upstream. Awesome video my friend, unfortunately the season is coming to an end.

Do you think they are still hitting? I’m planning on going out tomorrow. Guy at the tackle shop last week told me 1-2 year old cohos are hitting from shore. I’m in Milwaukee btw. Guys seem to be getting on them hopefully I’m not too late!
I wouldn't expect much out of the surf that time of year when the water is warm. You can do well on drum, catfish, and bass off the pier at that time, or steelhead if the water is cold near shore

Can you just pick a random place along the beach? Or are you looking for structure, creek/river mouths, near breakwaters, etc?
Within a mile or so of a river mouth helps , I think. But when those coho are in I think they run the entire beach.

I would really like to give this a try on the west side of lake michigan. Is that where this is? What months are usually best for doing this?
