VASELINE BALL TAMPERING SCANDAL JOHN LEVER

This is a scandal that shocked the cricketing world as it was the first of it's kind. In 1976-77 England's fast bowler John Lever used Vaseline to tamper with the ball that caused a huge uproar in the cricketing fraternity. India's captain Bishan Singh Bedi was aghast and pulled up the English team for their behaviour. He even took the matter up with BCCI. Unfortunately Bedi's anguish fell on deaf ears as neither the BCCI of the custodians of cricket, MCC, took any stern action against John Lever or any member of the English side. This incident happened many years ago but the scars remain. What is worse that despite new rules to reprimand such cheats, ball tampering continues in the game. The latest being the Sandpaper gate scandal where Australia's Steve Smith, David Warner and Cameron Bancroft were found guilty and handed a one year ban for ball tampering.
