Thank you for another great video. We just purchase a 2000 TT Quattro with 342,000 km on it. I watched your tutorial on the rear lights to replace several 1157 taillight bulbs. Now I will look for help with the 2 lights on the rear hatch. Thanks again from Canada
Good stuff! My right side headlight's interior wire harness decided to shed almost all of it's insulation, causing the fuse to blow for the instrument cluster, immobilizing the car. (I had the front end off to replace the radiator and it ran fine until I put it all back together: thanks to whatever forum thread my son found that mentioned the fuse possibility!) It has me worried that any used replacement I buy might have the same problem inside....
Great video!! I had milky yellow plastic lenses and sanded them with 400 then 600grit paper. Then hit them with a light dust coat of DuPont 2Pac clear then four full flow coats. They still look mint two years on.
polished mine up on the outside, then spotted they are really dusty on the inside, so will have to take apart soon to give them a good clean. will you show a bi xenon upgrade or do you get someone elso to do that ?
Great video! I was wondering if someone knows what is the part that differentiates the beam pattern of LHD to RHD headlights (Uk to Eu ones). Is the reflector only or something else?
On my Mk1 with halogen bulbs the difference is a lever you move inside the housing. This adjust the angle of the reflector. It's pretty well described in the manual.
@@Skyggen-90 Thanks for the reply Skyggen. The lever is there to flatten the beam in order to use RHD headlights to LHD countries temporarily. This means that for UK headlights the pattern is like this : \__ \__ . The lever will flatten the beam to ___ ___ in order to avoid blinding the opposite drivers. However LHD headlights' beam is like this : __/ __/ . What i am looking for is if that beam pattern is only dependent on the reflectors or if there are any other parts responsible for the different beam pattern.
the insulation on my wiring inside the headlights was totally disintegrating and falling off, short circuit disaster waiting to happen. I had to tear out all of the wiring and install new wires.
Hello there :) thank you for this well explained video. My question is... Is it possible to buy only lens somewhere? I was checking forums, websites, but i didn't find anything... :( because polishing not an option on my lens anymore... Thanks for the answers :)
I bought a set second hand. I put nice LED’s in and they look amazing on low beam but I think the previous owner messed with the wiring on the right light because the high beam doesn’t communicate well. I don’t have high beams at the moment and I’m a bit ticked off about that.
Great video! I'm literally in the process of taking mine apart now. Both of my inside headlight wiring harnesses burnt up from the wires chaffing, then becoming bare and touching. Can you continue to break down the rest of the lights or include the wire harness part # if you have it. Glad to see your progress in more in depth tt content 🙂
Thanks for the comment, that’s as far as I’ll be doing with it for now I’m afraid, Is the wiring damaged inside the headlight it’s self? If so I’d look to replace the body of the light would be much simpler. If your on about the car loom side that’s a whole different story
I swapped the Older OE projector with Bi-xenon’s actually I purchased directly from Netherlands yeah it’s solid pretty nice ! The good thing is the OE high beam n xenon will light up together so brightly, I still use 12v 35w 6K cheaper xenon but it seems like 55K 55W powered 😂
I bought my mk1 2 months ago and don't think the lights are that good so the reflector is probably the problem as it is on 143k miles. So something else to get looking at when the weather gets better. Lense looks good on mine though so probably faken apart before. I like the idea kf the dynamic indicators for the headlight or clear lenses
Hey, welcome to the TT family! it does sound like that may be the case, you can remove the lamp and have a look in usually to see if thats the case, dynamic indicators are very smart.
Hi Dom, great video. I have a question, I was restoring a set of Halogen lights for my TT and I can’t for the life of me get the low beam reflector out!! 3 Screws out and a few bits fell out like 2 orange spacers and a kind of c shaped plastic bit, but just can’t wiggle the reflector past the stepper motor. Also turns out that the low beam reflector is steel not plastic so very different from the xenon version. Any help would be appreciated. Cheers Lawrence (avid fan)
Hey Lawrence, thanks for the message and could you ping me some pics? Via email I’ll take a look, I’ve not done much work with the halogen lights so would have to see what you’re talking about. Only ever split the xenon ones. Thanks
Very useful video as always. I am writing from Japan. We can't get any new headlights for Audi TT 8n meant for driving on the left side of the road at reasonable prices. We can't buy headlights from US because they are for cars driving on the right side of the road,. So if you can establish any way or system to get us either new or used headlights for British use you can make money. Anyway I need to get headlights for driving on the left side of roads or I can't pass our car inspection standard. Could you help us ?
Hey Dom, love the channel! Inspired me to buy a 225 02plate TT today. First thing that struck me, opened the fuel filler cap and got a face full of fuel and huge gas release. A little worried to drive, any thoughts? Assume breather issue. Thanks and will be in touch for a clutch soon 😊
Now if i could convert my Xeons to the halogen headlight assembly i would be happy since my lenses are passed being repaired and the Xeons are overpriced here in the states
@TheParrottBros do you have any videos on the homelink system? I'm trying to program my garage door and I'm not sure where the sensor is. I read it's near the left front headlight but that corner of the car interacted with a 🦌 in the past so I cant confirm its presence
I wish we dissected a tt head lamp in Biology rather than a frog😂😂Thanks for all your videos Dom
I'm in the US, wish someone would provide a service to re-chrome those reflector bowls
I wish someone made replacement lenses mine are far beoynd polishing
Great video Dom, been waiting for a headlight breakdown vid for some time!! this explains everything.

Wow that is some serious mileage, although you have the roads for it. Glad to see you are putting the thing to good use and enjoying it all the best
212,000 miles!?
This video is perfect, thank you so much! I've been looking for a video about the Audi TT Mk1 headlights forever!
Glad you liked it!
Super thorough! I still need to make my indicators clear - job for when its warmer I think
Perfect timing! This is my next job on the TT. THX

Thats awesome, specially with all the sun shine they see ( all those UV rays)

@@teo20net Thank you for the correction. Seems like I have some more work to do then. No wonder the headlights have felt sub-par then...
Great vid Dom, I had loads of fun splitting mine 🙈🙈🙈
Careful use of a hair dryer or heat gun will make lens removal a hell of a lot easier. Very careful use of heat softens the adhesive sealant.
Yeah great shout with that mate, without heat you will struggle to remove the lens for sure
You need some better lighting over the bench, everything is really dark.
I do mate, got it all sorted now though so going forward wont be an issue :)
Here's one....hit a bump and light goes out. Wiring seems good...bulb or ballast? (Usually) or just stop hitting bumps! Lol
Usually a bump triggering an issue would mean a loose connection, or bad joint, lamp usually works or it doesn't, i would try a good used ballast
Good informative video, thanks.
Thank you

Thats not something ive seen a great deal on mk1 tt's but good fine and hazard avoided !
So what is the best way to repared the reflector ? Special paint ? Chrome ?

Hey thanks for the comment, Im yet to find a supplier for lenses only im afraid
Anyone have the spec d headlights? Just wondering how they’re holding up if they take leds ect

you can adjust right or left driving inside the headlight, there is a lever

That doesnt sound good, yeah i would suspect your breather is clogged, worth getting checked out for sure
Congrats on the TT by the way

Its tough as the lenses are the same on all units, so its justa. case of getting a good set or repairing what you have
do you have the link for the shop that has the clear strip across the bottom? thanks
Cloude9 customs
My car is dolomite, but I always thought the amber color looked nice
Dolomite is a lovely colour, I am a big fan of OEM styling, just nice to show others what is available
Sometimes we have to change things just to change them

Hey bro is it common for audi tt to have a inaccurate fuel gauge and what is the fix
it could ne the gauge stepper motors or the fuel sending unit in the tank most likely your gauges
Not compatable xenon new shape lights dont fit old ones my apx lights didnt fit the new xenon lights i brought just to let everyone know
When you say dont fit, is is the plug on the back of the lights that's the issue? thanks for your comment
Hey! I know this is old, but I need to improve my xenons, they are awful
It’s likely the reflector has failed a very common issue
The wiring on mine is cracked and brittle.
that's not good, Years & Years of heat cycles must've got to them
So you know of any TT specialists based in Shropshire? Cheers.
