1:05:41 Don't mind me just putting this random timestamp here for no particular reason whatsoever. But to yap a bit more about this video, I understand Noodle's critique. Egoraptor does present a lot of points that would turn OoT fans off of the review despite the end of the video seeming to imply that he wanted to start a critical dialogue about the game. The problem arises with the most common point from the reaction. Arin's video came out in *2014* and it feels like Noodle just never wants to acknowledge that. Yes Arin did showcase his critique chops in the previous Sequelitis videos that were above 2014 standards (mostly) but that still is the landscape and I think he's allowed to do the stuff that was common place at the time. What's especially damning about this is that the Ocarina video has no bearing on modern video game discourse. From what I've seen over the years, more nuanced discussion and essay style videos are pretty rampant nowadays (almost annoyingly so at times) and Arin's word does not have the kind of weight like it did a decade ago. Noodle could've made this into a wider point where he can show people making videos like the OoT Sequelitis today or how the landscape has evolved to tackle video game criticism differently but he doesn't. It feels like he woke up one day and decided to violently beat this random video with a comically large hammer. The worst part is this feels like a middle finger to rant videos which I disagree with. Do I like nuanced discussions? Yes of course, what do you think this comment is trying to be? But there is still value in a good ol' fashioned rant. Sometimes you just want to bitch and moan about something. Does that mean others have to like it? Obviously not but I wouldn't say their existence is a bad thing unless what they're whining about is provably false or a non issue of the century. Arin's talking about his experience with OoT and how it frustrated him. I don't think every video should have the people watching it in mind. I would say that the video Noodle made reference to about "smoother" animation not equalling better animation was a great video even though it's a rant. It also was an informative and entertaining way to learn about why animation is at the frames that it is and that "enhancing" it ultimately leads to a sloppier, less detailed product. Noodle wasn't trying to be persuasive but I didn't really care cause he did a good job explaining why he didn't like this trend. I respect if Noodle thinks that the video represents something he doesn't want for his channel but I think it's a bit flawed to direct that mindset to different creators who want different things for their channels (and even more flawed that the mindset is directed toward a *2014 VIDEO).* This really should've stayed in the shower.
The argument about Zelda Oot actually hurts me and I’m just hoping that the people who say stuff it’s timeless and whatnot are gone so I can actually critique the game without death threats 😀.
Fr. I made a tierlist in a zelda sub reddit and put, get this, OoT in *low A.* I have never gotten more toxic comments in my entire life and was actually impacting my mental health irl. OoT fans are absolutely insane, and they successfully ruined the entire game for me
I don't doubt that he can have a change of heart over time but in the case of this video, I think he could've presented it differently to better effect
I liked Noodle's essay about as much as i liked Arin's original video. Which is to say, a lot at first, but then i sat on it, and actually thought about it, and realized it was completely wrong and stupid.
Something to add about Arin, he became a brand ambassador for SEGA cause the guy who was managing the Sonic twitter was a fan of him. Then he got the boot and they gave that position to Hololive’s Inagumi Korone.
I completely disagree with the very beginning. Yeah, if you go out and voice criticisms of Ocarina of Time, at that time people were going to be keyboard warriors about it. There were 100% people that were typing up a response before even watching the video, but that doesn't mean that Noodle didn't have a point. It's still isolating him from his audience, which includes people who put OoT on a huge pedestal. It takes away from trying to have a genuine dialogue about the game because you've already lost that part of the audience. And it's an audience that Aaron knew he was going to have. I don't understand why you see such an issue with it, Noodle had a good point, and it's literally something you'd learn in any class about writing speeches or persauave essays.
Referring to Egoraptor as "chad" is absolutely insane, context or not
Taking the title seriously in any context is insane.

No Fun Allowed: The Video Essay

Noodles litterally portayed people as neck beards talking about the AAA discussion awhile back and called them names.
The hypocrisy is CRAZY

Very cool video, you are very articulated it's a pleasure to listen to you as my today's background noise
The ultimate compliment - thanks bro 🙏
The lack of media literacy is infecting RUclipsrs now as shown by Noodle

Isn’t Egoraptor the DSP wannabe?
