Thanks for sharing that. Much appreciated. I really want to see part 10, to see how you were able to fine tune and amend. Based on a video i saw on here, looks like there is a bit much cotton on the strings, but that's only based on a video i saw and not real experience. If you are able to describe how you got your 2nd wheel lined up and true or any tips that would also help.
Sergio will be doing a live stream on setup, so I think we will both watch that! ;-)
    Brilliant thanks.

Hi. Yes, if I ever get a decent sound I will post again. You are probably right about the cotton.. too much tends to dampen the strings I have discovered. I still need to know about how to set up the trompettes so Sergio's video will be very welcome. Any idea of when the stream is? I did not really need to true the wheel because it was printed and seemed okay from the word go as soon as I got it the right size and allowed for the veneer. I might veneer the smaller wheel to compare the sound with the wood filament and the veneer. Thanks very much for staying with my log! Much appreciated.

@@Aikonaazi you may have seen my purple NG on the group. I am starting to get some reasonable sounds. Rosin made a huge difference. also adjusting everything, then adjusting everything again!

@@TinRhythm Yes I have seen your purple Gurdy...awesome. I am also starting to sound a little more harmonious, but not ready to go live yet!!!

Looks incredible, I love the butterflies! You've certainly given me inspiration for building my own Nerdy 🙂
Btw, I think you may have a little too much cotton on the strings. Or at least that's what I've heard can cause the more abrasive sound.

Glad you liked it, I have since repainted it and added lots of butterflies and flowers. You are probably right about the cotton, I use little to none now! Unfortunately because of a slight disability on the right side I find it difficult to maintain cranking for more than a coupla minutes so I am designing a new version which is self cranked and also has sympathetic strings. Keep an eye out for the new build log!

The sound may be caused by too much pressure. I am not sure but it is a possibility.

You could maybe put a bit of paper under the string where it rests on the bridge.

Definitely a combination of too much string pressure on the wheel, too much cotton on the strings and maybe too much rosin (and possibly the wheel face is not polished enough) ...
I can also hear that your wheel is not trued, there's a fluctuation in the tone as you turn...
