- Hello friends, today we will talk about Holi, which is the most colorful and happy festival of India. Holi is called the festival of colors, the festival of love and the victory of good over evil. But do you know why Holi is celebrated? Let us know some important stories behind Holi and its importance.
Story related to devotee Prahlad.
There are many mythological stories behind Holi, which help in understanding the origin and customs of this festival.
According to Hindu religion, Holika Dahan is mainly done in the memory of devotee Prahlad. Devotee Prahlad was born in a demon clan but he was an ardent devotee of Lord Narayana. His father Hiranyakashyap did not like his devotion to God, so once he conspired with his sister Holika to kill Prahlad. Actually, Holika was blessed with such a cloth that if she sat in the fire wearing it, it could not be burnt by the fire. Wearing the same clothes, Holika sat in the fire with Prahlad. With the blessings of Lord Vishnu, nothing happened to devotee Prahlad and Holika got burnt in the fire. Since then, the festival of Holi is celebrated as the victory of good over evil and devotion over power.
The sacred love relationship of Radha-Krishna.
According to beliefs, Lord Krishna's complexion was dark and Radha Rani was fair. Kanha often complained to his mother Yashoda about why he was not fair. After this, one day Yashoda ji told Lord Krishna to apply the same color as yours on Radha's face, then the color of both of you would be the same. Then Krishna along with his friends and his group of cowherds reached Radha to paint her. Krishna, along with his friends, painted Radha and her friends profusely. It is said that the tradition of colorful Holi started since then. Even today, Holi is played in a grand and pompous manner in Mathura.
Kamadeva's penance.
According to Shivpuran, Himalaya's daughter Parvati was doing rigorous penance to marry Shiva and Shiva was also engrossed in penance. Indra also had a hidden interest in the marriage of Shiva and Parvati that Tarakasura was to be killed by the son of Shiva and Parvati. For this reason, gods like Indra sent Kamadeva to break the penance of Lord Shiva. To break the samadhi of Lord Shiva, Kamadeva attacked Shiva with his 'flower' arrow. Due to love and lust in Shiva's mind due to that arrow, his trance was broken. Angered by this, Shiva opened his third eye and burnt Kamadeva to ashes. After Shivaji's penance was broken, the gods convinced Shivaji to marry Parvati. The gods celebrated this day as a festival to celebrate Kamadeva's wife Rati getting the boon of her husband's resurrection and Shivaji accepting Parvati's marriage proposal. This day was the day of Phalgun Purnima. Based on this context, the victory of true love is celebrated by symbolically burning the spirit of lust.
