  • Following the sinking of the Pacific Fleet's battleships at Pearl Harbour, many Americans believed there was nothing left to stop the Japanese from invading the west coast. The sinking of merchant ships off the U.S. mainland and the shelling of an oil refinery On February 23, added to the pessimism. The following night, hysteria reached fever pitch after the Office of Naval Intelligence issued a warning that an attack on mainland California could be expected within the next ten hours. Soon after, radar picked up a contact off the coast of Los Angeles. Air raid sirens sounded, and a blackout was enforced. When a colonel spotted twenty-five Japanese bombers, all hell broke loose as a barrage of anti-aircraft shells was unleashed. Soon, reports came in describing hundreds of aircraft in formation, bombs falling, and paratroopers descending. The Battle of Los Angeles had begun!

Re Elwood shelling. There was a story that the capital went to UC CB college of SB and tripped and people laughed so Elwood was revenge. Also the clubhouse at sandpiper golf course is made from the timbers of the oil pier. That is factual. The previous could be.

How can you have a battle with no opponent? Very strange!

Night time is when magical stuff happens. Some make out with a girl, others expend all their ammunition on weather balloons.

Having personally performed in 1941, I have to confirm that, in Steven Spielberg’s on words, it was his worst. But I laughed 😅

People call it a failure, but it was a profitable film. It only falls short when you compare it to his other films.
