    Two Chinese women claimed they were driven out of a restaurant in Osaka, Japan, because of discrimination against Chinese tourists. But according to the restaurant, the women were at fault. The restaurant claimed they stayed at their table even after their 90-minute time limit was over, and threw cs on the ground.

    I lived in Japan for 2 years, I've lived in China for about 2 years now too. I have NO doubt that they were being rude, at least by Japanese standards. Even by comparison to the UK, Japan's standards for manners are very high. On the other hand, here in China, it is completely normal to skip lines, speak loudly everywhere, spit, etc. They absolutely did something disrespectful. I feel sorry for this restaurant owner. I find this sort of behaviour really despicable, not only are they making other Chinese tourists look bad, but they claim discrimination, which is absolutely an issue in Japan in some ways, but this is not one of them.

    Chinese tourists have always been known to be greedy, speak very loud, and filthy.
    I was at a buffet in Malaysia. All of a sudden, loud noises were heard. Next, a group of people rushed in to the buffet tables. We found out that they were from China. Goodness ... they half ate and half bagged the food into plastic bags. Whats worst ... food was strewn on the floor.
    There are thousands of people struggling to put food on thr table, yet those tourists have no respect for the food.
    We practically were afraid that they will touch or grabbed our food. We quickly moved our plates to the other side, whilst several of us stood guarding our table, hence blocking whatever attempt by those rude, greedy, filthy Chinese tourists.

      @michael jenkins I have had many times where Japanese people have "backstabbed" me, have tried their best to tell me "that I don't belong there", told me I am idiot for trying to learn Japanese, people not following up on any contact, people "overreacting" to what should be something small, completely ignoring people, blocking people despite having what seemed to be a "nice conversation", people judging me without listening to anything I had to say, people getting mad at my complements, people telling me that I'm not a real American because I can speak a bit of Japanese, people telling me I can never understand Japan because I'm an American, people calling any Japanese that does something dumb as actually being a Korean pretending to be Japanese, most places won't rent out to foreigners, etc... I have seen a Japanese guy tell a suicidal cross-dresser that broadcast their suicide attempt on twitcast to do it in private so they didn't bother anyone. I've never been to Japan, but I have JLPT N2 by the way.

      I want to see her chime in on the problem in Japan as I feel Japan is more racist than any country I have ever been. I have been told on the phone by real estate agents that a certain owner doesn't rent to blacks or to Filipinos or to Chinese and it was not isolated. I have been told I couldn't go to so-and-so place because I was not Japanese. It is widespread and entrenched. If the real estate bubble had not burst, it would be even worse now. A dead gaijin at the hands of police, or any Japanese for that matter, will not garner any real news coverage. The difference is they don't lynch people here but they throw roadblocks from all directions and the TV shows and news programs go right past it without reporting on any issues. In the U.S., people have been working on the problems for decades but in Japan, according to most Japanese, there is no problem: Avoid negative publicity and keep my head in the sand. We are the greatest and we don't have the problems that countries like America have. That comedian on TV said so and I know it's true!

    From my experiences, it really seems like some tourists from mainland China (and I’m saying some, NOT all) could do with a bit more prep on how things roll in other countries.
    Being of Chinese descent but born, raised, and living elsewhere, it’s kind of hit me hard seeing this stuff go down.
    Like this one time during dinner in the Maldives, I saw a lady from a group of eight just grab an entire big fish dish from the hotel buffet and haul it over to her table. Left the place looking like a mess, bones everywhere. Then the next morning, there was this guy who got super upset because the chef wouldn’t make his eggs with sweet soy sauce, worrying it’d mess up the pan and stink up the place. He made quite the scene, insisting he should get whatever he wants because he’s a paying guest.
    These moments made me switch up how I do meals when I’m traveling. I’ve started skipping the buffet scene, even if I’ve paid for it, and hit up the à la carte restaurants instead. Just makes for a better vibe all around.
    It’s kind of eye-opening, especially when you compare it to how things are in Japan, where everyone takes pride in keeping things clean and respecting shared spaces.
    I’m not trying to throw everyone under the bus here. Just sharing what I’ve seen and how it’s nudged me to think and act a bit differently when I’m out there traveling.
    It’s all about getting that mutual respect and understanding going, which honestly, makes the whole travel experience way better for everyone. ❤

    The Chinese must have really been at fault here. If they even refused the money it means the ladies did not know how to conduct themselves properly.

      I'm a Malay. To be honest, you can tell the differences between Malaysian Chinese and mainland Chinese by their attitude in public. One time a couple of mainland Chinese were fighting in KLIA 2, screaming, throwing their passports. I looked around and saw the faces of Malaysian Chinese, and they look very embarassed and disappointed. I feel really bad for them

    First of all theres a lot of chinese tourist in japan esp in osaka. Japanese dont discriminate. But if u have a really bad manner or table manner doesnt matter where ur from yes u will be scolded or kicked out. Ive seen a lot of chinese tourist in japan being so loud and not a care in the world throwing their trash everywhere while sightseeing.

    • @stanley19430
      @stanley19430 5 лет назад +55

      They do discriminate, but I dont blame them. I'm Taiwanese. They wouldnt smile to you unless you specifically told them you are Taiwanese. Have friends from Osaka, even he agree that they do. Mainland Chinese are sometimes rude. However, as long as you are respectful, they will still treat you well. They just wont greet you the same though. I dont blame them one bit.

    • @mariazippy233
      @mariazippy233 5 лет назад +27

      chan stanley I don't blame Japan too in the way they behave towards them though. If they now look at Chinese people that way then it means that they already have a long history of how many times Chinese tourists behave in such a bad manner. But then again we still can't generalize. Maybe that's their perspective.

    • @krnstrong
      @krnstrong 5 лет назад +33

      Really? When I went there esp at that famous fish market many greeted tourist with their native language, if it's korean they will greet in korean, if it's Indonesian they will greet in Indonesian, if it's chinese they greet in mandarin. The problem definitely the tourist. Sure there are racism everywhere but when it comes to tourist japan has the best hospitalities. My friends are chinese HK and Singapore all had best time in japan & kept coming back there for vacay

      I do agree! They have one of the best hospitalities; however, once you make some Japanese friends there, they will tell you the real truth. Dont get me wrong. Most of them are still nice. Had a friend suggested us to wear "I'm from Taiwan" T-shirt. It is also political accounting for unresolved WWII issues, and bad behaviors. Personally seen Chinese throw food in the shopping mall.
      For those who wants to know more, just read the news on mainland China boycotting Japanese products. There are still conflicts between them. It has died down. No matter what, as long as you are respectful, you'll be fine.
      Also important, during Japan earthquake, Taiwan donated a lot of money. During Taiwan's earthquake, Japan donated a lot of money. We have been strong allies. Very grateful for their contributions.
