As a massive Durian enjoyer, Subaru's description of the fruit is on the more pleasant side to hear. It absolutely is the type of food that you can only like if you grew up eating them.
I love the fact that all my fellow Durian enjoyers pop out to comment on the video. Also, not only the smell of the room stinks, but your breath and fart would do too.
But, when they attached with durian, even for once. They will love it forever 😂😂😂 because who can accept the smell will rewarded with silky teksture & sweet taste of durian
Myself prefer soft ( below/less silky) & sweet than bitter ( some durian get bitter because they fermented/get alcoholic when ripened for too long. But it can also occurs depend the durian species). Because I get dizzy when eat the bitter one 😂😂
Stink? That’s a legit fragrance yo
@@Pasonia i told ya. That my 1st impression. It stink, but not that bad, but after that stink, it follow up with legit fragrance like you say.
i have both sides when it comes to eating durian
-silky smooth sweet and a bit on the too ripe side if it's has little amount of meat
-sweet a bit bitter and kinda crunchy on the side if it has big amount of meat
in conclusion, both great on it's own way
I prefer the creamy sweet types (udang merah) while my parents like the sweet ones with a bitter aftertaste (D24) etc. You can hear boars scavenging these treasures at evening in the estates, if you're not alert when they fall. The pungent smell drives them wild.
A true rivalry: bae with the vegemite and moona with the durian follow up
moona already terrorize JP mems with spicy food
Now we need a Swede member to bring on some surstömming
Weapon of mass destruction lol .
@@HandleToBeDeterminedI heard that you shouldn't eat it "raw", but as cooking ingredients. Wasn't it?
Battle of The Culture
Durian is already not in its best conditions after shipping, it start to get mushy after defrosted...
If want to eat durian, it's best to have it fresh like couple hour after it just dropped from the tree.
So, ideally come to Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand and Phillipines to eat durian locally will have the best durian experience. ❤
This, fresh durian and 24 hours later durian already taste like completely different thing.
When I visited Thailand, quite a while ago now, I found it curious that every hotel we stayed at had strict and clearly stated rules banning guests from bringing durians into the building. Never ended up trying it.
@@Frag-ile if Im not mistaken someone said it's because the smell is soo strong.
it's really strong that if you put it in refrigerator, everything inside it will affected by it's smell.
everything become durian. it even able to get your room smells like durian.
at least that's what I ever heard of.
Yea, I'm like "nooo, you have to eat straight from the fruit" but still kudos to subaru that she ate it after smelling it,Some new challenger gave up after smelling it
@@ranapriliaful as long as the durian still not open/cracked, it won't smell that much, but the moment it cracked, the entire room will smell like it..
personally i prefer durian that still has it's shapes and still soft, if it is already mushy and creamy, then it will be a gambles for the taste~
As someone who can handle a plastic container full of durian, I always like seeing people’s reaction to eating durian for the first time. Glad that Subaru doesn’t hate it, more on the confused side.
I like how serious her face is lol
As someone who love eating Durian the way she's describe are pretty accurate 😂
"smells like lvl 100 pineapple" made me laugh so hard
Yeah, it smells like onions and tastes sweet with an onion-y aftertaste. I’ll eat it if offered, but it’s not something I’ll go out of my way to get.
Sweet scallions? Now I'm actually intrigued...
I eat durians too but I still don't get how the smell is similar to a green onion.
The thing about durian is it has a lot different kind of breed, and it absolutely gives different experiences. That's why i am always kinda upset seeing people challenge themselves to eat durian for first time but durian they eat either hard solid, mushy, or white-colored (White-colored durian tend to taste bland). Good looking durian is firm looking, not so solid but not so mushy either, and the color is either yellow gold, a bit red, or fainted yellow.
But in same time i also kinda understand them as well, since getting a good durian ain't easy even for locals..
_Durian Arms!_
MISTERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR DANGEROUS!
The smell is a small price to pay for the flavour
I know, right
the smell is heaven to me
Durian smell is either Heaven or Hell, there is no in between
After a while, your brain will automatically connect the dots, so that when you SMELL durian, it'll immediately be like experiencing the taste again. Both will be heavenly.
@@neallim308 nahhh
She could handle lv 10 spicy snacks and durian, Subaru have become honorary ID 😅
Anya is honorary jp and shuba is honorary id, they're just swapping members at this point
@@manusiabumi7673it's like player transfer on sport team
Whats interesting is her description is very close to one of the first colonial European descriptions of eating durian. He described the texture as a creamy custard and the taste having hints of almond and sweetness of onion.
I remember reading about this!
I've had durian multiple times in my life and it's never really made an impression on me taste wise. I have a cousin who loves the fruit and she enjoys freezing it ahead of time giving it a similar feel to ice cream. The added benefit to this is the smell is massively suppressed while frozen.
Also there are many kind of durian taste. Some are mushy and pure sweet. Some are a bit harder like a bit dry mango. Some have fainter sweet. Some have a bit of bitter in it. Some have too ripe fruit taste and smell. So it really depend on which version you got to taste.
Subaru is already uniquely sweet to me. ♥️🙏♥️
I really wonder about that first humanoid who found a proto-durian fruit, got a whiff of it, and still thought "Smells edible! Tell my family I love them"
Considering humans forgot some foods and accidentally invented fermentation, then literally proceeded to make those food cultural cuisines should tell you something about human nature.
If any JP members go to Indonesia , I would LOVE for the ID members to bring them to eat durian. Fresh. SEA standard 😂
she is absolutely an entertainer, her reaction is hilarious
From everyone who taste durian on the internet.
So far subaru is the most comprehensive one.
Her description is really objective and spot on.
Eventho she doesn't like it, me a person who likes it understand her description.
Sometimes people who doesn't like durian describe it as something just horrid and i can't understand why.
One of the most respectful description of durian taste and smell
It's just too strong for those who have never tried it, but once you get use to it it's really good. Also, fried durian is the best, much better than potato chips.
Even sweet potato chips? Because that's a very high bar to clear.
On a tangent, anyone that's never eaten plantain chips should try it ASAP.
Ooh, I never tried fried durian. Do you just fry the pulp?
It's real fried durian?? I never heard that😂
@@JL_Loki You just peel off its cells into thin chips. Though, you need a better texture of cells than what Subaru has here, they are too soggy.
What the heck, I've tasted durian snack products from ice cream, to cream puffs, to cupcakes and even durian dodol, but I never heard of let alone try fried durians.
I would suggest first time eaters trying a semi thawed fruit ( like out of the freezer ), that way the smell is not overwhelming and you really get to taste it with the custard creamy texture, without being confronted with the smell.
its my favourite way to eat it, not because im bothered by the smell, but because it's like ice cream
@@-nomi.- aye....😎
Or get ice cream with durian pieces in it.
Cold durian is best too. I like the candies one as well.
it is amazing subaru able to describe how durian taste like
yhats accurate
Yeah, Subaru's on point when she said the taste is different from any other fruit. It is King of Fruits afterall. There's also many different kinds of breeds that can change the taste and texture.
In Indonesia, durian is known as the king among fruits because of its delicious taste and strong aroma.
Basically its smooth like butter and the sweetness is a smooth sweetness, and yes its taste screams exotic
SEA bros are smiling from afar ☺️
it's a fruit that you either love it or hate it... nothing in between
durian is a blessing truly,i grew up with durian so it is
Subaru fearless
My mouth is watering watching the plate... 😅
Subaru: smells like summer
Me: what?!
If Subaru played FF9, think of the Durian as Gysahl Pickles
Seeing how people from other countries react to durian, I'm quite bemused by how we Vietnamese are rarely repulsed by it. Also, if this is how Subaru reacts to the fruit, she is going to have field day with lucuma, a.k.a egg fruit.
It's simple because people from Southeast Asia are used to it and have more knowledge on a variety of ways to eat and serve it, as well as direct access to fresh durian.
Fresh durian is like creamiest thing I can think of.
depends on region and how common the durian there.., i live in SEA but i absolutely despise durian... No amount of flavor can save that horrible smell that can ruin appetite... I find people who enjoy this fruit more masochistic than spicy food enjoying people
durian with a chopstick. i've seen everything.
I never complained about how durian smells, when I was small, but after I grow up somehow it smell made me dizzy
rules when eat durian: always eat with hands
i love the scream
The best fruit if you want to confuse someone.
"Smells like summer"
yeah I guess... when I was single lol
What a lovely fruit
Wow, she really is built different
Going to a pacific country and eating fresh durian is now on my bucket list after reading these comments
LMAOOO her reaction
durian smells like a umbrella bio-weapon but its delish
that angry face is adorable
i've only had durian once and it tasted like eating an onion through a sweaty gym sock
The duck has experienced the durian
One of us
One of us
And this is the story of how she became obsessed with Durian for the rest of her life.
I hope one day she gets to try the Musang King variety one day.
"smells like summer." So like hot asphalt and sweat?
Durian is a delicacy meal
1:25 - From now on, I'm calling durian the level 100 pineapple!
This is the first time I saw someone eating a durian with a chopstick, try it with your hand, the experience much better, you can lick it while holding the fruit.
Subaru wears gloves so you don't see her feathers.....
The best way I can describe it is like caramelized onions with peach jam. But there's a really satisfying mouthfeel to it, like a really ripe mango, except creamy instead of juicy.
Durian is remarkably flavorful, but it's not a flavor that smacks you across the face. It's just really rich and layered with a lot of subtleties. It's easily one of the best fruits in the world.
Now I want to taste the fruits (and vegetables) she mentioned just to compare it to durian. XD
Duren adalah buah terenak cung☝️
It's hilarious how she's using a chopstick lmao
"It smells like a summer"
Durian tree grows where there is no summer. There is no summer here
More like, it's summer for the whole year
few fun fact about durian: the main self protection mechanism lies on its smell instead of its skins, but roughly 4% of world population perceive it as delicious smell instead, this seems to be something genetic
She need to try fresh one because of shipping time, the shipped and fresh one taste extremely different
Durian is a fruit that needs training. If you could get pass the smell, it actually is a pretty delicious fruit and the longer you eat durian, it actually smells great.
Ah yes training to eat durian. Welp, there's a new content for the ID girls to train all the other members to eat durian.
To be fair Subaru screams at pretty much everything
What an amazing description a level 100 pineapple is.
"Subaru screams--"
Say no more
Durian is unmatched fruit ❤
I guess I’m lucky that I find the smell of durian nice (as well as the taste).
Durians in Thailand are especially fantastic. I’m sure a lot of people know sticky mango rice, well, they also do sticky durian rice and it’s amazing.
But if I never had one and had to imagine from what Subaru is describing, I’d stay a hell away from it.😂
Sometimes I wonder if it's a genetic thing or if durian in overseas just tastes that bad (maybe not the durian itself, but how they process it).
After all, almost everyone I know loves durian. Heck, even my 5-year-old brother loved it the first time he ate durian.
Smell nice....as long as your not smelling it while driving. Everytime I brought Durian from my village, I always keep it out side of the car.
@@aciesara5444that's because shipping usually durian is shipped by ship not a plane because of the smell so it takes a long time on the sea whilst it's not fresh anymore
@@aciesara5444 i'm in asia and i only eat fresh ones or the ones that after opening you immediately put in container and keep in freezer. No one eats gooey stuffs that's a few days old like that but instead we processed old durians into some other type of dish or snacks. No one here eats a few days old durians that have been opened, its not bad but tastes weird even to regular durian eaters like us.
@@rizashahrilgree. durian flesh best consumed as soon you freshly pry the fruit open ,up until 5 hours after that.
Even better you can get the fruit fresh off the trees
Durian is something that you will eat if someone give it to you, but you won't go buy it of your own.
Now her room going to smell like durian for a week! 😂😂😂
The durian she ate definitely wasn’t the fresh one (you know, after shipping and all). It looks completely different from what we have here, even though she described it pretty well. 😆
If I have to give a more precise description of the taste, it'd be that of an alcohol. Strong with sweet aftertaste
We can use Durian as a weapon to defend ourselves against anyone who wants to harm us😂😂😂😂
Ah yes, durian, my favorite comfort food together with my iced cold coffee
My soul scream when she eating durian with chopsticks
As my favorite fruit, yeah you definitely can't describe durian with other fruits. It so special that's why they called it king fruit.
As a proud Malaysian born and raised with Musang King I have never in my life seen a durian as yellow as mango. But it is damn entertaining to watch people overseas suffer while eating it 😂
Edit: I must be drunk. I forgot musang king are also yellow but my brain registered only the pale yellow greenish ones 😂
Idk which part of malaysia you live in, but yellow durian is all over the country.
Probably it's a variety thing. Our Durian in Philippines has yellow pulps. Marang on there hand has light yellow pulps.
@@zackyichigo8696 Sorry my bad. I forgot musang king are also yellow. My brain only registered the pale yellow greenish ones when I wrote this comment 😂
Ah yes..... Musang King, that's so sweet and nice fragrant.
But still, Indonesian Durian Tembaga has much better taste than Musang King 😊
Fresh durian is so good
Durian's taste is like an ice cream spiked with liquor, its sweet, creamy, and depending on the type, has a sharp bitter taste that stings but doesnt linger
Yummy 😋
As a South East Asian, I can vouch that the reason Durian has an out-of-this-world smell and taste is that it originated from a tree that sprouted out of a fallen meteorite from ages ago, similar to Vibranium in the Marvel universe.
At first you hate the smell but after eating many you don't mind it you nose adjusting to durian smell I agree it's unique taste but still one my best fav fruit
I only eat durian that’s been out of its husk for a while the stench goes away and the taste isn’t as bad the freshly opened one. Frozen durian is what I prefer also since that’s how I grew up eating it when my grandparents fed it to me.
and if you keep durian in the fridge its gonna take at least a week for the smell to clear out
Aw c'mon Subaru ..
Yusuke from waseda-boys enjoys it to the point where his fan calls him Yusuf 😂
She is right when she said it tastes like a sweet green onion. I was eating at a banquet and my sister put some raw onions in my bowl that I later use to eat vanilla ice cream. Coincidentally i added the baked santan topping and when I mixed them up together and tasted it, it taste exactly like a durian. Found out about the onions after i started chewing.
Durian is my favorit 😋
"it smells like summer"
So sweaty clothes?
Ive always said Durian tastes like onions, and subaru agrees
I love subaru reaction, for malaysian durian is one of the best desert to choose. Lol
It actually doesn't smell bad, it is just smell like smashed Garlic and the taste is so distinct and creamy onion.
Doesn't like durian from primary school until highschool then come to like it after entering 20 then love it in mid 20. Lol
People say Durian is either a you love it or you hate it with no inbetween, but me personally I wouldn't go out of my way for it but if offered I wouldn't turn it down either
Durian's taste is almost pretty close to coffee, which is why it goes great with it.
Subaru eat Durian??? YOSHHHHAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!
Duren mantab 😎🤙
as a Vietnamese, Asians, Durian is one of my favorite fruit
You could say this is a reasonable difference, because every country eats different food, so the taste of the mouth and smell when eating/smelling something fruit/food has a certain difference in taste.
That why Most southeast asia loves durian.
*"It's not sweet like a fruit, But it is a fruit"*
😑😐😂
Once you eat durian , theres no going back.
Others food doesnt has strong taste compared to others.
How'd this durian even got past the security at the airport? lmfao
I make milkshake out of durians that are abit old but still taste alright. Their texture is off but they still taste like durian.
So durian flesh + milk + abit of ice + vanilla icecream, blitz… bliss..
