Hey, FILMBuFF, might be an odd question but have you ever considered writing? With your great understanding of many plots you watch I'd love to see you actually come up with your own using things you've learnt from watching so much.
@@iRoboticGaming look at his other comment, he watched the version that had the right subs. The version shown in this video is different. It was obvious he got the point based on his reaction to the line lol
*I watched the updated crunchyroll version recently, but I don't screen record. It appears that the footage I used in post was a version of the original.*
The story takes place in 1997. Which explains quite a few stylistic choices, especially with everyone’s sense of fashion. Loving the reactions along with your analysis and breakdown. Keep it up man!
1997? I wonder if they mention Soviet mafia then, if USSR fell apart 6 years prior. I wonder if this is an alternative history plot, or characters just say that out of habit.
@@MiTaReX It's kept intentionally vague on the start. In episode two USSR is still mentioned to be around, but the japanese audience could notice that the elevated station building in Nerima wasn't finished until 1997.
The scene where Aki takes on the guys in the hallway is anime-only, pretty good showcase of Akis new power against the first gunman, dodging a bullet from a blind spot when earlier he got hit by katana man he knew about. Those other 4 guys are puzzling to me as they make everybody think Sawatari got hit by Makima, while in the manga, without the previous scene the implication was it was demanding on her body to control the ghost devil, not sure what that was about. Also, the wording when talking about the spider devil was "Generally, the more human-like the devil looks, the friendlier towards humans it is.", which is a bit less ambiguous than the anime subs but that might just be me. Also also, the future devil says to Aki "You will die in the worst way possible.", it has already been fixed but you saw it here with the wrong subs. It may sound the same to some, but the wording is important. Thank you for your content, been looking forward to your videos every week and this weeks delay got me really anxious. Hopefully you do some other series I am interested in in the future so I can keep wathing you. Cheers and happy holidays ^^
I don't believe it's a spoiler since it's a fan theory and has never been explained in the manga so I'll post it here. About your comments in the ED, it's been a long-running theory that the Violence Fiend is using Arai's corpse, and having the Violence Fiend appear with Himeno, Aki, and Kobeni at the end like you pointed out is probably a nod by MAPPA that they're going with that interpretation as well. You also see Arai in the OP in the theatre scene but not the Violence Fiend, eventhough the Shark Fiend and Angel and Spider Devils are there.
I thought the Violence fiend belonged to that one Public Safety guy who couldn't bring it out in public in ep 7 though. Was it a different fiend, or using a different body, because Arai was alive and well at the time.
@@fahrenheit2101 I assumed it was the Shark Fiend. They said their fiend wasn't "rational" and we see the Shark Fiend doesn't really talk coherently like the Violence one does
I can definitely see what you mean with the comparison of Christoph Waltz's character in Inglourious Basterds to Makima, how they control the room, the calm demeanor, that smile but also that fear they project. God that movie is so good.
A small detail that I've basically never seen anyone notice: the yakuza boss makima meets in this episode is implied to be the son of the yakuza boss in the first episode and the father of katana man. This is because both the grandfather and the father are yakuza bosses, they look similar, both katana man and the father use the same phrase to describe and justify the yakuza - "a necessary evil", and although it's less obvious in the anime, both katana man and the father have their iconic sideburns.
I'm not sure if someone has mentioned this already, but the line from the future devil "Your death in the future will rule." is a slight translation error from the manga. What he actually said was "Your death will be the worst."
It's not a translation error per se as both phrases mean pretty much the exact same thing. They only really differ in tone. In my humble opinion, "your death will rule!"-plus or minus the profane intensifier-sounds a bit more natural from a localization standpoint, especially when you take the Future Devil's overall demeanor into consideration. It's a bit similar to how they chose "the future rules!" for his main catchphrase, which could also have been translated from *mirai saiko!* to the much more literal "the future is the best!"
@@ViperJoe Yeah, I think anime-onlys are smart enough to get the meaning, but either way, Crunchyroll fixed the translation to make it more closer to what he said in Japanese, so it's all good now.
@@ViperJoe It's a mistranslation. Because the sentence is supposed to be half of a full sentence, and the latter half of the sentence makes no sense whatsoever if we were to use "fucking rule". Using the original mistranslated phrase ruins the twist later on in the story. Cruncnyroll subbers simply mixed up "Saiaku" with "Saiko", which have the same first Kanji character. It's the usual, but annoying case of translators translating from transcripts alone without double checking. Because EVERY other subtitles for English and non-English subs aside from the Crunchyroll/Hulu subs got the translation right.
This episode establishes both that there are humanoid-looking devils and that they are unlikely to be openly hostile towards humans. Also since Future got into Aki's eye, he is no longer confined in the prison so it's front row seats plus a little extra.
You’ve been putting out some of my favorite long-form content for a while now. It’s so much more than a reaction; you help me see these episodes in a new light. I’m so excited to see where you go in 2023!
Kishibe mentioned this episode that humanoid devils tend to be more friendly towards humans. So if Makima is a devil, then she might genuinely be on humanity’s side… or at least the side of “the greater good.” It seems to me that she will authorize and/or facilitate these human sacrifices as a necessary evil without hesitation or visible remorse, but in her eyes it is for the benefit of human society as whole. She even brought up “leashes” again, and we already know how she feels about those. The fact that she believes in what the nation can do means she must think what they are doing is the right thing for humanity. Obviously we don’t know hardly anything about her still (I’m also unsure what exactly she was lying about when she was speaking with Kishibe) but we got a little peak at some of her motives this time around at least.
I could be remembering this wrong, but I think he called her out when she said something about wanting to save people from devils and that will give "us" more freedom. not sure if she means all humans.
I don't really see what you saw wrong with the animation in the Makima and Kishibe scene because for me that scene was actually perfect. I mean just the tension in that scene alone.
Imagine you're the head of the Yakuza and you're talking to what equates to a government official about "necessary evils" and then she busts out a bag full of your loved ones eyeballs! Makima is a true menace I say! Don't cross this woman, devil, whatever in the hell she is!
As a Japanese, I don't think the black couch makima sitting scene was a reference to a porn film lol. It's a very common picture in Japan where a Yakuza's office would be exactly like that with sofas and the members standing like that.
bro we are talking about fujimoto this was definitly a reference. He had a manga panel where there was a numbercode on a building and when you google that code it shows that rocket thing that gives you speed from mario kart penetrating a women or something like that 😂
I don't think Sawatari nosebleeding was Makima's doing, since she would've collapsed immediately if that were the case. I think that nose bleed was supposed to represent the cost of spitting up Ghost, maybe something like losing her sense of smell?
So excited to see your content in 2023, Vinland Saga, Better Call Saul. The prospect for Hunter x Hunter, Monster, Arcane, and Black Sails and even more.
It was a bit of a bummer that your initial comment on the Makima and Kishibe scene was about the animation, even more as I genuinely can't see what you felt was off about it lol, but you came back to it later so I guess it's all good.
Yeah likewise, I saw nothing wrong with the animation in that scene. Characters looked on-model as always to me. I love that scene a lot so it's a shame that was his standout impression of it
Just a note, the early release had a small translation error that they fixed. The future devil did not say "your death will fucking rule" it says "your death will be the fucking worst"
I agree in that I want MAPPA to take all the time they need. Though since MAPPA is self-funding Chainsaw Man 100% by itself, there is no traditional "production committee" to contend with. So it's just MAPPA + the IP holder (who I believe is another corporation) + Fujimoto himself (though he seems very hands-off).
@@Wesbert Fujimoto's editor previously tweeted stuff that says Fujimoto was working closely with the anime team. But from interviews with the anime director, he said Fujimoto has been very hands off and wants the anime team to do their thing. Fujimoto was watching Ep11 immeidiately after it dropped, and live tweeting his reactions .... became pretty clear he was not involved in the production all that much (he was quite surprised by an anime-only sequence that was not in the manga).
when kishibe talks about the violence fiend and how its still really powerful im not sure but i dont think he means that hes retained his power as a devil i think he means that hes just so powerful that even as a fiend he is incredibly powerful
It’s two things: 1. Devils get nerfed when they possess a body and become a fiend 2. Violence is still so strong as a fiend that he’s made even weaker by the poison mask. The reason why violence is so strong as a fiend, other than the unspoken fact that the fear for violence is strong and makes for an incredibly powerful devil, is unknown. My personal interpretation is that, on top of the aforementioned innate strength of Violence, its “power set” lends itself to a fiend form: if the violence devil uses…violence, then a human body isn’t a big restraint. It will be a really powerful human body that uses violence and martial arts. This is different compared to, say, the Leech devil which would go from a huge tentacle monster to a normal human body (maybe able to stretch its limbs a bit?), not to mention that it would already be a weaker devil anyways. The shark fiend, for example, would be a middle ground: the fiend can get the devil’s head for a while and swim in materials, so it has a lot more powers than you’d expect from a fiend, but the real devil is likely much bigger on top of having the same swimming power and no time limit on its bigger form, but at the same time I don’t think it’s so huge that it would be so incredibly more powerful than the fiend.
This is a weird ask but when the whole series is over can you do a video essay of the series? Would be interesting to see your take after rewatching your analysis for each ep and see how things panned out
there is a popular theory that the Violence Fiend is actually using Arai's body: In the OP when we see the principle characters of the show together in the movie theater, Violence is the only one who's missing but Arai is there. Whereas in this episode's ED, when we see the Eternity Devil Arc squad, we see Kobeni and Himeno but Arai has been replaced by Violence Fiend. But then this theory is also kinda messed up the more I think about it because it hasn't been that long since the gunfire incident so it appears as though Special Division immediately scooped up Arai's corpse and offered it as a host for Violence to take over without any proper sendoff for the honorable man who protected Kobeni :(
I think it might be safe to say with the events that transpired and the other divisions merging together, it called for desperate times and Arai's corpse was easily available to give to a powerful devil that could be a great asset to have immediately in action. SPOILER Violence and Kobeni's relationship later on in the manga offers more hints to him using Arai's corpse as well.
Her calm demeanor and sinister preparation for this meeting, she both had the foresight and cruelty to the innocent loved ones of the yakuza. Seriously the yakuza boss under estimated Makima's beautiful and young appearance, but she already came to the meeting already with a "warning".
yeah... they show Violence Fiend with the main cast in the ED hmmm 🤔🤔 even though I'm a manga reader I'm still not sure, but I kinda know why I guess... (spoiler) . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . so is there any official confirmation that Violence Devil possessed Arai's body?
Here's something I've been wondering since the beginning of the show: why does Denji have sharp teeth, even in episode 1? Power does too, but it makes sense, since she's a fiend. Or is it just the character design Fujimoto came up with?
It is just the character design, probably to show how crazy Denji and Power are. There are characters in other anime with those sharp teeth with no big reason other than they look cool or are crazy.
They're actually not supposed to be fangs, or sharp teeth. In the manga they're supposed to be more jagged and mangled, since Denji didn't have access to dental care due to his financial status. It's more apparent in the manga, but they just changed it in the anime.
As much as I LOVE it, I wouldn't say it is of the level of anime that he's reviewed on his channel. There are other animes I'd much prefer he reviews tbh
"Her" yeah no angel's a guy the author doesn't even try to hide it and once you've seen enough anime you'd notice that immediately because of the style of his character design I can't put it into words well traps just have a general ascetic at this point
The official Chainsaw Man site calls him Samurai Sword, I think the direct Japanese translation in the manga refers to him as that as well. Katana Man is just a fan-name as others have said.

Just a design choice. Rule of cool.
They're actually not supposed to be fangs, or sharp teeth. In the manga they're supposed to be more jagged and mangled, since Denji didn't have access to dental care due to his financial status. It's more apparent in the manga, but they just changed it in the anime.
@@homie2377 Ah, that makes more sense. Thanks 👍
@@homie2377 I’ve never thought of it that way. But it actually makes a lot of sense.
A post Christmas miracle
Angel Devil is a boy btw!
Merry Christmas my man! ♥️🎄
You should check out re:zero
As much as I LOVE it, I wouldn't say it is of the level of anime that he's reviewed on his channel. There are other animes I'd much prefer he reviews tbh
excited for next year
Thx for your thoughts

I was wondering when you were gonna upload this weeks reaction
He actually said Sunday in the pinned post from last week's reaction. Always good tod check that out.
"Her" yeah no angel's a guy the author doesn't even try to hide it and once you've seen enough anime you'd notice that immediately because of the style of his character design I can't put it into words well traps just have a general ascetic at this point
Yeah he's just a pretty boy I never suspected he's a chick 😂
yes, the animation were below the usual for this show. apparently, they ran into production issues, mainly scheduling issues
Hi
Why does the sub call katana man for samurai sword ?
Because the name Katana Man is only what the fandom calls him.
Katana Man is a fan name
The official Chainsaw Man site calls him Samurai Sword, I think the direct Japanese translation in the manga refers to him as that as well. Katana Man is just a fan-name as others have said.
Chainsaw man fans cried so much over one line 😭
some bad news for the finale, due to covid situation in China, until 3 or 4 days ago, there were 3000thousand pictures haven't done
That was fake. The user who posted that admitted to joking
