This is a mod been wanting to do. Actually from experience. The bump stops would be better on the hood and sides. As you drive the force of the wind will cause the deflector to vibrate. With the bump stops on the deflector . It will cause friction marks on the paint , and eventually it will wear off the paint. If you place the bump stops on the body. The friction marks will be on the deflector. Deflector is a lot cheaper to replace then a new paint job Another option is color match with HD vinyl. Cut into little circles and place where bump stops will contact with the body. Also take care of the rock chips in the paint before installing. Moisture will sit in those holes and rust will form Keep up the good work. Truck is looking good
Deflector should not be that close. I put my bump stops on the deflectors. I have that on 3 separate vehicles. My 2022 tacoma trd offroad, my 2004 explorer xls, and my 2000 f150 xl. I've never had a rubbing nor a vibration issue. If its rubbing, then you installed it incorrectly, or have some other sort of problem going on. I drive fast at times(100mph or more), and even then I have never had the deflectors touch the hood.
@@MPGunther1 the vehicles I’ve had in the past and others I’ve seen this was the case. It would have been best to place the bump stops on the hood. Just trying to be helpful. In Mumfys video he doesn’t show the distance between hood and deflector. I haven’t seen a weather tech install up close. I’ve seen other manufacturers and placing the bump stops on hood would be best. Thank you for your feedback. Like I said before this is a modification I would like to do. And with your feed back I feel more comfortable doing it. I was just trying to be helpful with the experience I’ve had and witnessed. It’s pretty sad to see friction marks of hoods cause the bump stops were stuck to the deflector and no or the hood
I installed this on my 2019 Tacoma TRD Offroad last year and I have been very pleased with it. I also have a clear bra on the hood and fenders but the down side to those is that it doesn't protect the leading edge of the hood.
It's a mod thatbi want to do. Nice long screwdriver...per chance what brand of screw driver is that? Been looking for a flat-head and philips but didn't knkw where to go for them. Last...great view of the mountains!
I purchased one of these from auto vent shade and when I closed the hood, it gouged my grill surround. Ordered another one from them and it did it again🤣 I gave up after that. I’m only watching this video because your videos are both calm and entertaining 😎👍 P.S. Your Tacoma looks like an absolute dream🤤
@@Eastsidegeorgiaboy Considering the fact that there’s only one way to put it on and all the screws lineup🤔 I don’t think so but thank you for trying 😁👍
@@stay4theride well you did something wrong, because the bump ons have never been a problem. I never had an issue with my deflector touching the paint unless somebody sat or leaned up against it. That's it there's no other way for it to touch. So if you're driving down the highway and wind is making your deflector touch your paint that means you put it on incorrectly. I know there should be only one way to put it on but somehow you put it on incorrectly.
I have it because I was getting rock chips on the hood, plus I have the weathertech wind deflectors on the side windows. I could have gone with the low profile but I didn’t want to out 3m tape on the paint.

My deflector (properly installed) never even comes close to the paint and IMHO putting the bump stops on the deflector is the way to go

The sides of the deflector have about 1” of space from the hood. I would be more concerned if it was a low profile version.
Excellent install video! I've had mine in Arizona for over a year with no issues
Great to hear!!
It's on the list! Hoping to add it before the snow, salt, and grit flies.
I did a vinyl wrap on my hood.
I also don't try to follow people too close on the hwy. I keep a few truck lengths behind anyone.
Those are great preventative steps to take. This is just another step.
Good simple video! We just picked up a 2023 TRD PRO Solar so we will be checking out your other Vids. New Sub here!!
Nice mod! Just put that on my ‘23 TRD off road.
Looks great! I’m about to order one myself from Weathertech!
Jeez you nearly took my eye with that screwdriver! Cool mod, definitely worth it!
Lol. It’ll reach all the way to the east coast if your not careful. Lol

Those are great added protection points too!!
I don’t put the bumpers on,may damage paint if on. If it’s on deflector that means something is even closer to your paint to cause rubbing.
New sub! Can’t wait to watch your videos!!!
Much appreciated!!
I bought the AVS Bugdeflector 2 and didn’t like the way it sat on the grill when closed. Took it off
Did it push the grill down?

I picked it up at Harbor freight.

Sounds like user error to me.
The Weather Tech one are the way to go

That sucks to hear. Looking over their website they have several versions to choose from for the Tacoma. Which one did you get?
Did you get a MPG increase?
Did you wash and wax the section of the hood that the protector covers before installation?
I did wash it. I didn’t wax it though.
What’s your thoughts on it now after running it. Do you think it helps and worth the money.
I view it as a hood protector more than a anything else. Glad that I have it to keep chips off the lip.
My hood is soooo heavy I would hate making it heavier lol. Is the sport hood heavier than the off road hoods?
This deflector doesn't even weigh 1 pound. You should get the sokie tech hood struts. No more heavy hood.
@@Eastsidegeorgiaboy 👍
Yeah is not very heavy at all, and some hood struts would be a great investment.
Should have painted it to color match your truck.
Not a fan of the Robmotive bug deflector.
If you like the looks that's all that matters.

Worst gas mileage?
