I really find the choice to not pursue loot randomization to be cool. My friend and I played this for like 8 hours yesterday and spent our time playing the game vs. in menus comparing a .01% stat increase between items. It was fun. At 37 years old now with a family, I appreciate being able to just play the game. I can see why loot-driven people might be put off by this, but it worked like a charm for me.
I’m a few hours into this game and it’s awesome so far. Love the world design and music and the stories are good, I’d say they’re typical cyberpunk stories so far. Agree that navigation can be difficult, and so was aiming initially. I didn’t miss loot at all until you mentioned it on here, maybe they’ll do that in Ascent 2, it’s kind of refreshing not having to manage endless new guns, like some games make you do these days, but some more variety would be pretty cool as the fun effects here are pretty cool.
This would be great in VR. Although not immediately an obvious VR candidate, it’s so immersive seeing the world from the camera’s perspective, but also being able to turn it around independently of the action, lean in and out and get a better angle on things etc.
It's unbelievable how I missed this game completely. I only learned of its existence last week. I bought it for only 17 Euros and WOW am I impressed. Non stop action in an absolutely gorgeous looking big sci-fi world. As a fan of fast paced RPG games like Diablo 2 I can highy recommend this. It's easily a top 20 game for me now and I've played a lot of games from the early eighties to now. Give it a try, you won't be disappointed. It does have gameplay bugs however and it tends to crash every now and then. But wow! So glad I found this!
Im getting a Series S JUST for this game alone right now….and eventually Microsoft Flight Simulator. I recently finally got a PS5 but I need this game in my life i LOVE twin stick shooters and The Ascent looks gorgeous.

The loot system was my big worry before this game launched, and it's sad that it is indeed a big minus to the game. I hope maybe the devs will have time/money/inclination to put an actual rarity system in it and make it more worthwhile. Loot is what makes people come back and keep playing, guys. Please implement it...
Ya, loot is the only carrot to chase in these games after story.. and it sucks I just bought the game based on looks and am in process of downloading now while watching this video. Heart sunk a bit when he said the loot is generic
My gf and I are playing through it and enjoying it, it's nice to have a decent couch coop game to experience together. The loot is absolutely disappointing and we've run into a lot of bugs and camera issues but we still enjoy it.

It's gorgeous the gameplay is awesome and right now it's on sale for less than $24? You'll get more out of this game than most AAA titles you pay over double for
Every constructive criticism of this game presented in this video (except for camera stuff) is actually a plus for me. I loved how the criticisms were broken down in enough detail to realize that this is a game for me. Instant sub from me. Thanks!
Played this for 6 hours straight on series x with a buddy online. Had a few bugs, nothing crazy. Just had to reload the game and cutscenes and enemies worked as normal. We power leveled our characters in the begging by fighting guys who were 3x our level and got their high level loot, absolutely smashed through the next 3 bosses. The heat cannon is a must! Definitely a great game.
The Ascent 2...this game is major bang bang for your buck. My wife and I really enjoyed it. When we got beat buy bosses, we just shuffle our augs, modes and guns around until we kick axx. Free roam is cool because the world is huge. It crash a few times and player 2 would buy a few items back but you level up so fast it didn't matter. Overall a strong 8/10 based on graphics alone.
I am in absolute love with this game. If you´d ask me how would I imagine a perfect setting for a game, I´d probably show you some nice pictures very similar to what these guys created. I love this merciless industrial gritty world. And what I like even more is that this is only one city on one planet, but the universe they created is much bigger. Would be amazing if their next game was set in the same universe.
Huge fan of the cyberpunk genre, so I'm a little bias probably. But I love this game! I originally got into cyberpunk games playing Shadowrun on the SNES, and these feels a lot like a more modern (and more shooter/ action oriented) take off of something like that. The music, atmosphere and story are a large part of what makes a game like this for me anyway. I DO wish there was MORE of an RPG element, more variety of loot like they mention here, and more ways to interact and participate with the world. But that's easily forgiven since this is the first game from a small team, which we'll hopefully see more from in the form of DLC and/ or sequels that expand on that stuff. :)
The shooting in Ascent is solid but the grenades and abilities are sort of useless and the gear and gun upgrades are a tad uninteresting. It's a good solid game but could have used a little more depth to make it more interesting and engaging.
are you kidding ? try getting the stomp and smash ability, lower cooldown and compliments each other. The stomp makes enemy float like the gravity greenade and the smash can literally punch the soul outta the enemy, and after that theres an afterimage of enemies which gives aoe blast
@@FullMetalB for wanting the product on the same platform to have the same performance? Annoying is having to alt F4 a game to go to tbe menu or relaunch for a quest to load properly
I don't mind top down style games. But my biggest gripe with them is when the camera is locked and you can't even swivel it to see the rest of the world or as you said earlier "have enemies shooting at you" from a corner you can't even see. And while I know it's few and far between, it still takes me right out of the immersion knowing that I can't look around to see what I want to look at, especially if I notice something cool at the corner of the screen. Unfortunately A LOT of top down games lock the camera. But it 's cool in this game that the camera at least changes perspective as you play so you don't get bored with the angle like other games.
I'm playing on Game Pass, so far it's really good overall! Definitely agree about the camera angles, wish you could at least pan out a little bit in any direction but I could see the complications with button-mapping choices and that's understandable. Also agreed that the game would benefit IMMENSELY with a quick pop-up map that could, perhaps, display from a wrist implant with the tap of a d-pad button, and perhaps it could be an acquirable mod the player can purchase at the graphter (for immersion)? The loot was a bit disappointing at first, but after a while I kinda forgot about it and was enjoying other aspects of the game previously hindered by that bias. Graphics are amazing, the level of detail is relatively exceptional, the story is definitely casual but still intriguing. The characters of the game are all unique, but also similar in a way that really furthers the feel of being where the game takes place. Overall, I'd give it an 8.5 out of 10, but that's based in reference to an ideal so, neutrally I think it's worth buying if you like dystopian narrative, Cyberpunk-genre themes, reading lore and shooting storms of bullets at waves of wacky enemies in detailed, colorful ways.
I started playing this when it released on Gamepass and it's more fun than I thought it would be. Died plenty, and kept going back in. I did have a few issues of areas not rendering right away and one time not at all so I couldn't go there and had to go another route. Also a couple of crashes and freezes on exiting. Still it's plenty of fun. Look forward to playing with my friends.
I've been struggling to find a game a really like lately but this one scratched that itch. I'm only 2 hours into it but having a lot of fun. Your review was spot on.
This games is awesome, I host game night a times a week and we couch co op. So the drop in drop out Features are very fun. The game itself has a great pace and just challenging enough. 1 of the best games I've played in years.
I have been playing it alone and I have been loving it. I like the fact that there isn’t a rarity to loot so all the guns are at least viable to use as long as you upgrade them. I just wish I had friends who liked the game
I'm just waiting for the CQC looters or slasher looter. My biggest disappointment in Outriders is playing the time warping teleporting time smacking trickster without the option to start with a sword or dual wield or even just gauntlets for melee. That and a better action game combat system.
I'm glad there's no rarity. Rarity/loot is not only tedious since I spend so much time comparing, but it's also far more realistic that one gun type is the same as another.
Loving this game, but my god the bugs. I get it's a small team, and they probably had deadlines to meet, but it could use a month or two. I've had enemies stop spawning. Side Quests not show up in the log. I could go on.
Yea a few pretty bad bugs I noticed too. I got 4 hours in and a main quest bugged out, I started a new game and got past it now but it almost stopped me from playing altogether.

Biggest surprise of 2021 out of the blue. I didnt know anything about this until downloading from Game Pass. Its like Dual stick cyberpunk Diablo. I hate and love art style. They are like action figures or plastic mannequins which is cool but some monsters look too cutesy for my liking. Backgrounds have so much detail! Oh my god I love those backgrounds! just bought it for $20 on the Steam. I saw this was out a bit ago. but finally picked it up and i am not disappointed at all. The last game like this i played was Diablo 2 and that was years ago. This one is on part with that in a fantastic setting. the atmosphere is great, the back story and lore is interesting. As stated in this vid, the camera rarely gets in the way. when it does you figure it out just fine. I'd also have to say that when the camera changes direction, it is quite refreshing for a new view angle even if it is for a few minutes. I haven't encountered any bugs yet. but i'd have to agree that the mapping aspect is a bit clunky. But that is the only gripe from me. A fantastic INDIE isometric. Way worth the current 20 it's going for atm on Steam.
It's amazing to see this detail and story telling and world design in this kind of game and I like that you go slower and story driven instead of just bullet hell twin sticks stuff. This is refreshing.
It’s got couch co op and nobody does that anymore. Which is dope. I’ve seen so many reviews of people going “ I played this with my brother” or something. Goes to show there’s a big market for it that devs are reluctant to capitalize on. It’s fun and bloody and it finally looks like a series X game that actually takes advantage of what the series X does. Not just an old game that looks prettier. The story is confusing and doesn’t make much sense (you can gather the basics but past that you might be a lil confused) and the voice acting is “good enough”. Not bad but definitely not anything to write home about. They all kinda seem like characters we’ve seen done better in different games. The loot is a little confusing but when you get into it, it’s actually super simple. Maybe too simple for some people’s liking. But overall it’s a great game and I definitely recommend you give it a go if you liked Diablo or Cyber Punk.
That segment about loot, 100 percent agree. It is sorta disappointing to see there wasnt too much of an emphasis on loot but thats the potent beauty of this game. Its a character building rpg. Yeah, its cool to look like a badass when youre fighting, BUT, being JUST that, and choosing what type of combat style by the skills you choose, on the slate it doesnt seem that deep but once you really break into it, man this game is awesome, definitely has some good future potential here. Cant wait to see updates!!
Gosh. Every day we get closer and closer to toppling over the big video game studios. Soon, gaming will be about good games we want to spend money on again and again.
Didn't vibe at first. But after the first hour and entering Cluster 13, boy did it finally click. Now I'm so hooked. Just want to dive into the world and soak in the views.
This game is really fun! to bad the Co-Op seems like you need to have friends on your list to add them into game. No randoms...rip to me....the Solo player.
Camera is rough to program for, but in a game like this it was more an oversight. It would have been obvious to add during combat that when you move the mouse to the edge of the screen you will prompt a zoom out and a shift of the camera in the direction you are moving the mouse to relative to the screen. It shouldn't be that hard to put in at all, just tweaking would take a bit of time for it to feel right.
This seems like the closest to a Shadowrun game in our modern age. I haven't played the IOS game yet, so I cannot be 100% sure, but this is a solid take on that cyberpunk RPG style that we haven't seen in a long time. I also haven't played Disco Elysium, but I heard that I was great
Been playing this game since it dropped yesterday on game pass. I'm pretty much addicted to Battle Royale games, so I don't play single player games very much. I'm not kidding this game is a blast
Xbox is killing it this gen. Coming up: Hades , Psychonauts 2, Forza and Halo Infinite. I mean really… they’re just on a roll right now even from a hardware standpoint. Hardware + Software = Xbox. You’d have to be crazy to not want one.
@@elipetrou9308 The Xbox series X is packing a bigger punch this gen and with the velocity tech, old games get a bump in FPS, fallout 4 and 76 both run at 120 FPS now. So older games not only look better on the series x but also run better. The series X also has more power than the PS5 so games actually display in true 4K. Furthermore, with Microsoft purchasing more studios that means Xbox will have a ton of exclusives moving forward. Even Bethesda’s games, Watch their E3 from June. Then there’s gamepass and the ability to stream games anywhere using Xcloud. PS5 has some exclusives and haptic controllers. The biggest problem with the PS5 moving forward are the lack of games. They’re reaching a point where their exclusives are having longer periods in between releases. Example: Horizon forbidden west just got pushed back to 2022 so now Sony has virtually nothing coming out this holiday. With Xbox expanding its studios they plan on releasing exclusives every quarter.
It's fun for sure, but not what we thought cyberpunk 2077 would be. Not much in the way of story or rpg stuff, mostly mindless shooting, still pretty fun though.

I didn’t miss loot at all until you mentioned it on here, maybe they’ll do that in Ascent 2, it’s kind of refreshing not having to manage endless new guns, like some games make you do these days, but some more variety would be pretty cool as the fun effects here are pretty cool.
Have been waiting for this one. Thanks Jack!

This would be great in VR. Although not immediately an obvious VR candidate, it’s so immersive seeing the world from the camera’s perspective, but also being able to turn it around independently of the action, lean in and out and get a better angle on things etc.
This game is just OOZING with atmosphere. It's definitely one of the best looking games I've seen this year.

I bought it on steam after playing it on game pass. These guys deserve our support ❤️

I'll do the same, I'll get it on PC and replay when they fix dx12 for Ray tracing
Im getting a Series S JUST for this game alone right now….and eventually Microsoft Flight Simulator. I recently finally got a PS5 but I need this game in my life i LOVE twin stick shooters and The Ascent looks gorgeous.
This game is worth it trust me, i tried it and its one of the best games i played
The game is buggy for sure in co-op. BUT it's super super fun to play, the sound and music in the game along with the visuals are so awesome.

Must be nice to have a girl in the first place 😢
I'm just going to put it out there no need to watch any reviews or before you buy or anything else this game is stellar it's going to be the sleeper hit of the year Mark my words. It's gorgeous the gameplay is awesome and right now it's on sale for less than $24? You'll get more out of this game than most AAA titles you pay over double for
You're goddamm right sir
Heat cannon sucks. Just max out the riot gun until you get a better shotgun. But youve probably beat this game years ago by now
The Ascent 2...this game is major bang bang for your buck.
DX12 is buggy, the game is amazing, bought it on Steam, and well worth the price of admission.
Aaaaand we're back with another episode of after playing the game on game pass.

I know this is an old comment, but I guess they took some player feedback because down on the d-pad now opens the map.
At @8:19 Where'd you get that shotgun? I'm past that level and never saw it. Random drop?
I started playing this when it released on Gamepass and it's more fun than I thought it would be. Died plenty, and kept going back in.
I did have a few issues of areas not rendering right away and one time not at all so I couldn't go there and had to go another route. Also a couple of crashes and freezes on exiting. Still it's plenty of fun. Look forward to playing with my friends.
for that just go to menu, and reload, the map will render properly, happens a lot to me

Lets play together bro, its will be fun :)
I’m playing on Xbox juzb1az3
The amount of visual detail is jaw dropping. Your eyes just can't take it all in. I don't know a small team pulled that off.
No looter-shooter stuff? I'm IN!! :D That is so overused in so many games.
Loving this game. Playing on PC with gamepass.
Just started it today. Blown away.
Loving this game, but my god the bugs. I get it's a small team, and they probably had deadlines to meet, but it could use a month or two. I've had enemies stop spawning. Side Quests not show up in the log. I could go on.

just bought it for $20 on the Steam.

The Ascent is somewhat enjoyable. *When it works.*
Gamepass is gonna make “Before You Buy” turn into “Before You Download”
As it should be. I’d rather pay 30 bucks for this every time instead of 80 for whatever new fucking cod they pump out
I definitely support indie developers but, I will say the devs that worked on this game are veterans that worked at certain well know companies.
Didn't vibe at first. But after the first hour and entering Cluster 13, boy did it finally click. Now I'm so hooked. Just want to dive into the world and soak in the views.
This game looks great and congrats to this small team. Sadly I don’t like top down games, but this seems like a fun game.
It's not a bad game.
But RUINER already beats it in terms of not only gameplay and story, but also weapon diversity and build customization.

Xbox is killing it this gen.
Coming up: Hades , Psychonauts 2, Forza and Halo Infinite.

@@darf2231 did my comment annoy you?
Be careful with stating facts. Ponies incoming.
Should I get a ps5 or series X, I have a one and a ps4 but not sure what to get next
If they added something similar to Synthetik's random weapon drops and the upgrade feature, we'd have a certified hood classic on our hands.
