The ark is for no one to see or touch. For those who haven't read The Bible; 1 Samuel 6:19 - "And he struck some of the men of Beth-shemesh, because they looked upon the ark of the Lord. He struck seventy men of them, and the people mourned because the Lord had struck the people with a great blow."

The Messiah Yahshua is the fount of our Salvation, not some man-made facsimile.
I am aware of the above scripture and agree it will be the case in the Millennial or Messianic Kingdom of Messiah Y'Shua or Nazareth. However, the way the scripture in Jeremiah is worded it sounds like people in Jerusalem will be again familiar with and have in their midst recently before the Millennium the Ark of the Covenant and Mercy Seat. Can I give another suggestion? King Manasseh put an idol in the temple, presumably in the Holy of Holiest. So he ordered the Levites to take the Ark of the Covenant out. They hid it somewhere. When Josiah cleansed the temple, the Ark was not there. So he orders the Levites to put it back. But it was hidden somewhere. They could not find it. But they didn't write that in Scripture, because it was such a shameful thing that the Ark was lost. Maybe it is still hidden somewhere, waiting for the Messiah!

The Ark was never lost. It was hidden in plain sight, by being made to appear as part of the decor/structure of a church, chapel, or other public building. Those who know its location misdirect the search elsewhere. It is likely better that it remain "lost".

It's also from 2 Chronicles, that omits any mention of the Holy Ark from the spoils of the Babylonian capture of Jerusalem. But yeah, the 2 Kings reference is rather weak.
I should also point out that the Mishnah (early part of the Talmud) says that King Josiah hid the Ark, and I don't recall the proof, or if any is offered. It may be Tradition passed down through the generations. From the Mishnah's point of view it was only about 5 or 6 generations.

Yes..fascinating thought. Its obvious that if the Ark is still in Jerusalem that it would have to be underground (out of sight) which implies a cistern or cave. Can I give another suggestion? King Manasseh put an idol in the temple, presumably in the Holy of Holiest. So he ordered the Levites to take the Ark of the Covenant out. They hid it somewhere. When Josiah cleansed the temple, the Ark was not there. So he orders the Levites to put it back. But it was hidden somewhere. They could not find it. But they didn't write that in Scripture, because it was such a shameful thing that the Ark was lost. Maybe it is still hidden somewhere, waiting for the Messiah!
