  • This was where my Dad & I lived for about a year in Salt Lake City between the Fall of 1970 and the beginning of 1972 - 182 N. Main Street just north of Temple Square. I spent about 8 or 9 months away in Europe in College and spent a lot of time in L.A. and various other places, but this was home base for about a year and a half. My Dad moved to S.L.C. being told that Howard Hughes was going to put him in charge of running his mining empire, but the eccentric billionaire instead changed his entire team and sealed himself off on the top floor of a hotel in Las Vegas for years. Since Salt Lake City was a relatively crime-free Mormon city I felt better about my elderly Dad living there while I was away in Germany at college. I came home at Christmas break, so I went through two snowy winters in S.L.C. and have searched my diaries trying to find the exact date I made this Super 8 film, but without success. The man in the video is one of my Dad's assistants during World War II, M.G. Nell, who is mentioned in my Dad's military memoirs.
