    I came here from watching the African videos. What a contrast.
    I was thinking as I was watching, "I'd be up in this thing all the time. I'd log 1000 hours in one year. Man, that looks fun".

    That was a good smooth run and the machine looks like it handles well. It took off in a stone throw and looked like you were having trouble trying to get it to stall. No wing drop and it is even my favourite colour. I want one. Merry Christmas guys.

    In my flight training, we performed stalls at around 3000ft AGL so it a stall was performed incorrectly and it turned into a spin, we could recover before hitting the ground. Also stall were not conducted over or an airport traffic pattern.

    • @jerryel2
      @jerryel2 7 лет назад

      If the airframe breaks the helmet wouldn't do you any good. Actually in any crash it isn't going to help in something that lightly made. But the stall speed is so low if he loses the engine it may help when he goes through the trees.

    • @raoulcruz4404
      @raoulcruz4404 7 лет назад

      or if it flips over on the runway. With that loose shoulder harness, his head would likely hit the pavement.

    • @jerryel2
      @jerryel2 7 лет назад

      Yep, and if the engine is still running it might chop his head off. Most likely any accident is going to be engine failure and if he has to put it in the trees a helmet would certainly help but even at 35mph (stall speed?) it's going to be a hard landing in the trees. I'd stay close to roads if I flew an ultralight and with enough altitude even on final to landing the landing is so short he can touchdown half way down any runway.

    • @walterriely4032
      @walterriely4032 6 лет назад +1

      Oh I see I didn't realize that a helmet isn't going to help, I must tell this to the kids who ride a push bike or even a motor bike, no need to wear a helmet !!!! That's the dumbest answer I've read on here, helmet won't help!!! WTF!

    I am not a pilot, I have never flown in an ultralight, and I don't know anyone who has, but the loose shoulder harnesses look like a major safety problem. One of the first things that caught my attention in the video was the time spent by the pilot in fastening and adjusting the straps, and after all of that, they appeared loose. I agree with others that a helmet might also be a useful accessory. Just my 2 cents.

    There's a lot of deflection when inputs are made to the empennage control surfaces. I know it's a minimal airframe. But it just seems there's a lot of deflection if you keep your eye on the relationship between the empennage and the wing struts. Flexible is good though.. better bending than breaking.

    The 3 main tubing pieces for the fuselage look a bit thin. If one kinks or bends that's the end of you, cos the whole tail boom would simply collapse. And it seems you can see some flexing of the tail boom. The same thickness for the 3 main boom tubings as the wing strut tubing would be great, then I might get in it.

    Beautiful plane. One thing: the shoulder harness attach should be above the level of the shoulders. If the plane hits something head on in a crash with the attach below the shoulders, when the torso is thrown forward and the belts go tight, it compresses the spine violently. Better to attach the harness to the tubing cluster above and behind the head.

My friend was killed along with his student pilot (and the UL pilot) when a fool in an ultralight with no communication radio decided he would depart while Rod and his student were on final. At 300 feet AGL the ultralight hit them from below.

      That's what steel tube airplanes look like without covering. Check out this Piper Cub frame: ruclips.net/video/vWVClzbhjb4/видео.html
      A Cub looks a lot more substantial with the covering on, doesnt' it?
      ruclips.net/video/439Ec-bAWG0/видео.html
      Keep in mind that the Cub probably weighs 3 or more times as much as the plane in this video, plus if flies faster, so it needs to be considerably stronger.
      Any responsibly designed aircraft will be able to take 4 or more g's. If this is a Legal Eagle, I haven't heard too many stories about structural failures with them yet.

    Nice aircraft... Check the video looks like you are holding down elevator indicating a tail heavy weight distribution not sure you can do much about that though possibly adjust the horizontal stabs angle of attack a smidgen.... Or the angle of the wing a tiny bit.... Possibly thrust angle couple shims on top mirror mounts..... Does it nose down hands off the stick.... You really should tighten those shoulder straps and maybe use a cross the chest strap to keep them on the shoulders.... If shit goes wrong you will appreciate being tied in better

Quiet would make the ride more fun and less headache from noise.

    Safety harness needs redesign reminds me of wearing bib overalls and the straps always falling, I don't think they'd be any help in a crash, maybe you would have time to pull them tight but that's a gamble and they'd not likely provide any help if there were side loads they'd just twist off your shoulder and your upper torso would hit whatever. Neat engine sounded solid, I'd trust it.
