It’s so nice to have an assistant when frying malasadas. My mom, before she passed, would pull the dough, and I would do the frying. So good when they are fresh and still warm

Angela, great video. Brings back many memories, both sets of my Voo and Vavo (s) were from Ponta Delgada Sao Miguel and came over on the boat to Fall River MA. I understand you are from Sao Miguel, so you may have heard of my 5x great uncle, the Portuguese Poet Antero de Quental. Anyway, I grew up in Connecticut and when my Deana (godmother) and Padean (godfather) would come from Fall River to CT they always brought a big box of Malassadas! Same size as yours!! Years later I tried to get Malassada in Fall River but the bakeries only make them on Sundays and they are gone by 10am - never got there in time. I live in South Carolina now and I don’t think they have ever heard of portguese food here, so I’ve been looking for a good Malassada’srecipe, so thanks so much. I also see you have a soupiest kaldean recipe- I’ll need to try that once I can get some good Chourice shipped to me - all they have here is that Mexican chorizo - n they don’t understand it’s not the same.
I am so glad you get to watch my videos. Yes I hear of your great uncle Antero Quental. I hope you make the malassadas soon. Thank you for watching my videos.

My family is from São Miguel as well and ended up in New Bedford, MA. Malassadas and a cup of coffee. Good memories. ☕ Have you ever been to the Feast of the Blessed Sacrement in MA? 🇺🇸 🇵🇹
In Hawai'i they are called Malasadas and they are round balls of dough, dusted in sugar. The famous place to buy them is at Leonard's Bakery. The bakery makes filled ones also. I like the plain, sugared ones.
That seems more like what Portuguese call “bola de Berlim”. 😊 If I am not mistaken 20% of Hawaiian population has portuguese ancestry. Also the ukulele was brought to Hawai by the Portuguese. In Portuguese it is called “cavaquinho”.

How many cups of flour does ten pounds translate into?
Ten pounds is about 36 cups. I have a smaller recipe.
Hi are u from azores and which island?
Yes I am from São Miguel
they look delicious. What is the temperature of the oil ?
About 300.
So happy to see your video on Malasadas. We call them Malasadas in Hawaii. My question is how much is the total portion of flour for your recipe?
I have the recipe under description. Thank you
Can I make the dough then chill it so that I can make it the next day? I wanted to prep ahead mix everything then the next day let it rise then fry.
No, you can’t chill the dough. You can make the dough put in a warm place and it will rise faster.
The island that iam from we called FILOZES
If I reduce the recipe, say by 50%, do I also need to reduce the amount of yeast/water/sugar/flour by 50%?
