Had my D500 a week now, and just dropped on your video, brilliant its just what I wanted. Clear precise, and unlike many others your voice does not send me to sleep. Keep up the good work.
Absolutely fantastic video! The graphic overlays are extremely useful, and the content is just enough to explain the concept without being overly verbose. Well done!
I have owned a few Nikons and now the proud owner of a D750 & D500 and to be honest I learnt alot of tips from this Video! Very clear, concise, and very well represented through visual animations. Well done! :D
Outstanding tutorial Michael! Just got my D850 and this video has helped me immensely learning more about the Nikon Auto Focusing System! Will be checking out your website, instruction and content in the future. Best to you, Rick
Just got my D500 a few days ago, thanks very much for going through this step by step method of getting familiar whit my new D500. Can't wait for Part 3
Hey Michael, I came across your video and I want to say it was great with excellent organization, presentation and visuals! You have a very happy new subscriber!
the best video I have ever watched and I have watched a few this is the only one that explained how to use my camera in language I understand thank you
thank you so much . I bought a Nikon D7500 today and I couldn't figure out how to select my own focus points .. but now I know because of this video . thanks a lot :)
Great stuff Michael, thanks a lot. My D500 should arrive in the next few days but, as with previous cameras, I like to aprise myself of the controls before the new camera arrives. It is so much better with your tutorials than with a pdf manual. I am new to Nikon so your tutorials are especially significant for me.
Tx for this explanation....I’ve been overwhelmed with all the buttons and how to remember what I am looking for.....I think I’m all set for this morning to go out and look for birds.
Having upgraded from the D3200, this video really helped me to understand all those new features. Great work! Are you aware of the fact that you can actually customize how the buttons work? You can change the behaviour of the camera when pressing in the joystick.
Thanks for that Michael. I bought my D500 today and have spent ages scratching my head trying to work this out. (not wishing to look at the manual : ) ) Most of the other buttons I have managed to understand by trial and error. It's a big step up from the D3300.
I've been shooting birds with AF-S for so long, I've never really understood what it was standing for. This video really helped me out! Now I don't need to refocus so often as I needed to do in AF-S. Thanks!
Great video for those who don’t understand this 👍🏼 I do scratch my ugly head sometimes why use BBF though. I get it, but for action shots in AFC I like shutter AF better. You don’t have to think about two actions, just press the shutter and job done. Would be great though if you could disengage the shutter AF with a button push instead of going into my menu.
Excellent video! I love how you show the D500 screen. Could you address using AF in Live View when recording video? Let's say ballet, ballroom or tango dancers moving around a small studio. Thanks!
Hey Mike...I love the video it sure helped me out. You forgot to mention how you turn off the AEL on the front shutter button. I want to remove it from the front and go completely to the back button?
Michael can we count on you doing X-T2 vs D500 AF comparison or even epic shootout? I think it's very hot topic right now because everybody has different opinion and I think your testing methods are among the best I've seen on youtube.
You are also missing the point with back button ficus (BBF) It is not just for action. AFC with BBF replaces the need to ever shoot AFS. Simply take your finger off the back button and the camera stops focusing, which is THE SAME as AFS.
i kinda knew this but wasn't paying much attention to it until now, that's why some of my football shots come out not so sharp, simply because I let go of the BBF too soon or too quick... well said, mate
Hi! I’m new to your channel!! I totally dig it!! I was a full frame canon shooter got bored with their button lay out moved to Sony full frame but their lay out is worse than canons plus my hands “umbrella” the entire camera, I ran into your reviews of the Nikon D500 I really don’t care about the crop sensor, actually I like to keep my computer running. I just want to feel back on “beast mode” like you put it, my question is would you put an off brand say Tamron 45mm 1.4 or the native Nikkor 50mm f1.4? I also like the extra reach on those lengths on the crop sensor. Thanks
Clearly the best tutorial on focus training for the D500, thank you.
Had my D500 a week now, and just dropped on your video, brilliant its just what I wanted. Clear precise, and unlike many others your voice does not send me to sleep. Keep up the good work.
New nikon(second to my fuji system) user here,.This is the most useful video I've seen to understand AF, short and to the point. Thank you.
Thank you. I learned more from this video about autofocus than a complexly written book on the D500.
Just picked up my d500 tonight and stumbled on your tutorial, and it's brilliant thanks very much, so much better than reading things
Absolutely fantastic video! The graphic overlays are extremely useful, and the content is just enough to explain the concept without being overly verbose. Well done!

This is perfect. Thank you
