- I need to remember that I'm just an amateur rookie. No experience and that I can be replaced at the drop of a something. Maybe the only thing that keeps my interest is mother nature.
People that think being a truck driver is easy should watch this video. It doesn't take long at all for the honeymoon to wear off and you start feeling like you're in a crappy dead-end relationship. I've had many drivers ask me what's the best company to work for and I've told every single one, there is no single universal best company to drive for. They all have their downsides, you just have to find one that has a perk you value enough to put up with all the downsides that comes with the job.
6 hours is a long time to be at a dock but my personal record is 12 hours and I couldn't go anywhere as it was a large fenced in warehouse facility. I could see the people on the other side of the fence roaming free but I was in trucker jail tethered to the truck and the unloading dock.
I would go to a dry van company or flatbed company. Hauling reefer can be a pain and most of the long waits are with reefer loads. CR England isn’t a company you stay at long term. Get your experience and find a better company.
That's my short term goal. XP points and move on.
Sounds like the life of a trucker. For me there is too much hurrying up to wait. Get to a shipper and they take their time loading, but you'd better make your appointment at the receiver on time and usually they'll take their time unloading. I figured up my earnings and divided it by my hours....I was making $15. haha....sometimes you win and sometimes you lose. Gotta take the good with the bad I suppose.
Are you still trucking? I know when I was driving and did the math it also was around 15-20 an hour for the hours that was clocked on ELD but I’m sure it was way less because I always try to save my time so would do things that would be considered on duty was done off duty. Essentially, OTR trucker’s hours would be like having 2 jobs but not going home at the end of the day. I enjoyed but definitely wasn’t worth it at the pay these Mega carriers are paying.
Or the bad with the worse
This whole career choice has been a lesson in patience building.
Look into the smaller trucking companies they pay better in my personal experience. I started at covenant driving teams now I’m solo doing flatbed and I’m averaging out anywhere between 1000 on a short week to 3000 in a long week.
Try hauling fresh produce. You’ll learn what real wait times are. Especially in Nogales az or salinas ca 😂
All drivers be safe and slow. Thank you. God bless you all
Been YTing trucking vlogs for a few days ad nausem. Not a trucker but thinking about it. Airgas/Blue Rhino guys making $30+/hr plus max OT, and afaik they go home every night. Gas hauling is very lucrative. Walmart/Costco are great gigs but require 2.5 yrs EXP
Suck it up Buttercup. I've been at this for 30+ years. Stay safe.
Ya gotta take the bull by the horns my man.. YOU run that truck your it’s captain. When you talk to your DM be respectful but firm on the loads you want to do.
I haven't requested loads, they've all been sent to me through our tablets. This is where I'm not sure trucking is the right path for me. I'm made many mistakes before and this sure won't be the last.
England is excellent starting company. It’s not a career company. They’re company business model is designed for drivers to leave after a year experience.
Don’t want to defend England but all trucking is a huge challenge and adventure with fright. Things are tuff
I just wonder what thought process and ideas those drivers have that have been with the company for several years.
Brother, due 6 months and get out of that company. There are so many better companies to run for. You’ve done more splits than I’ve done in my lifetime. I don’t drive for this company any longer but SCHUSTER COMPANY out of Le Mars is a good honest company. They get yo the miles with out killing ya. And there bonus is easy to obtain. No chains and shut down in bad weather. Do your homework and talk to other drivers you’ll find what works for YOU. Good luck
But just remember with the smaller companies you’re going to be doing a lot of live loads but normally you’ll have a lot better pay but it doesn’t hurt to call around and check out what these other companies are talking about
Hi sir love your content
Good to know. I hope it helps someone, somehow, or maybe enlightens.
6 months, you'll be eligible to job hop somewhere.
That might be my new goal. I had a listening session with a yard jockey in Carthage. My gung-ho enthusiasm as a driver for this company may be a waste of time. Might need to start looking now. I think I'll get some winter driving experience first.
Plus your home time is normally a little better like for every month I take a week off and not a short week a full seven days
Not the best companies that I had the privilege of working with before the market went to shit was a company that paid a guaranteed salary every week of 2500 no matter the load amount that you did as long as you were in the truck the whole week, 2500 end up being like 350 or 360 a day
Thanks for your content bro
Welcome.
45 cents is a joke, rite?
Nope, but the slogan on the rear of some trailers "Great pay is just the start" is.
How is your pay low if you're getting lots of loads and not having to pay back cdl classes?
He's not paid by the load, he's paid by the mile, so lots of miles is better than lots of short loads.
What killer2600 said. Some loads are critical and have a higher rate. I had a few loads pay up to 0.57 per mile but my usual is just a whopping 0.45.
Go get on at prime inc
Good luck Driver keep your head up
brother youare being cheated @45 cents. You can always cheat for more time with personal conveyance
Just bail bro. Go to another company. You probably have enough experience now.
I'll get some winter driving XP first, then I may be ready for a level up.
