Oh My! glamdolly, you took the words right out of my mouth even though its 3 years ago! I'm just discovering these. All the acts were classics, but Larry Grayson, the best of the best. Thanks for giving us the chance to see this. X
Good Old Days, Thanks for this Christmas/New Year edition from 1977. Good entertainment with such as Larry Grayson, Biily Dainty and Vince Hill not forgetting the Theatre Players who liven up every show!
This is a wonderful hour of my childhood, brought vividly back to me! Larry Grayson was sublime, as always. Anyone who wants to see a comedy legend in his powerful prime need only watch this performance. Larry's timing, ad libs and asides were perfection. No one could work an audience better! What great entertainment shows we had back then, when the whole family (and the dog!) could sit round the telly together and enjoy an hour of fast moving, quality entertainment suitable for all. I feel sorry for kids today. Entertainment shows like this with great performers like Larry Grayson, The Two Ronnies, Morecambe and Wise, Danny La Rue, Les Dawson, Benny Hill, Stanley Baxter, Dick Emery and all the wonderful, real STARS we had in the 'seventies, are gone forever. And what's taken their place? Dumb reality and talent shows with wannabe celebrities, hosted by the likes of terminally unfunny Ant and Dec, and the ghastly Simon Cowell. Today's Saturday night TV 'entertainment' isn't a patch on the 'seventies glittering, glamorous shows like this one, which felt like you were part of an 'event'. Thanks for the quality upload. Happy days!
They really were the Good Old Days. Brilliant hour of entertainment. And only 43 years ago. A new and much lesser world now, sadly! Whatever happened to the BBC I wonder?
@@paulblatch01 …. and is why I NEVER EVER watch it anymore despite paying the license fee. I don’t quite understand how they get away with it tbh … hey ho 🤷🏽♂️
British television had a very different feel to American TV, however so many American shows aired in Britain back then. In 1977 the biggest imported show on a Saturday night was Starsky and Hutch on BBC One, millions watched it. I think British televison had less quantity than American TV. American stations were on air from around 6.30am each day and ended their day well after 1am. That was not the case in Britain of 1977, where BBC One would tended to sign off before midnight. Only three stations they had, BBC One and BBC Two with no commercials, and one commercial station called ITV, and that was it.
I discovered this entertainment way back in the early 1980's just before it finished in 1983. I think here in Australia it was repeated by the ABC. I have only recently discovered these uploads, mostly from 2018. It is pleasing RUclips doesn't interpret with annoying ads. You can't buy any of these shows on DVD's which in itself is a pity. They appear to have been videotaped so one wonders where the resource is as most videotaping on studio masters were taped over to save money as 2" Quadreplex was an expensive medium. I would tape these shows to VHS back in the 1980's, all gone now though. It would be lovely to keep these shows for the future for with television the way it is now it is on a downhill spiral. Only just over a 1000 subscribers including myself so there is not a great demand. I play both organ and piano and have done since a young teenager in 1968 so I am interested in the music mainly. It seems a sad future for mankind as the younger generation has no time for such music that appealed to our human hearts or maybe there is so much other so called entertainment plying for their attention. These absolutely terrible reality shows for one example.
I recall Larry Grayson went from being mocked and ridiculed to being liked loved and accepted. He was so loved b so many because he was the master of duplicity. You were only offended by your own ignorance of prejudice. He brought so much laughter to so many in his life time.
Wonderful family entertainment. Warm, funny and a shared human experience. Thank goodness I grew up with such entertainment and not the foul-mouthed, miserable, joyless obscenity that is modern 'comedy'.
THis show featured BILLY DAINTY - who was far more talented - and believe me a far more humble and approachable person. I met both during my own career and Roy Hudd fell into my headmistresses' absolutely damning category of "people you would not want to be stuck in a lift with". Bill was not only a rare talent but a charming man who always made time to help us young kids as he before had been helped when he was young. A category of performer we will never see again alas.
@@jillalexander3006 What utter rot! I met Roy Hudd several times over the years, as a wet-behind-the-ears TV researcher and latterly a TV producer, and a nicer, kinder man you couldn't hope to meet. He wasn't just charming to me because I was a telly person either - I saw him with fans and he was delightful. Always smiling and nothing too much trouble. Other stars loved him too - I'm sure Billy Dainty who you so admire, would not have had a bad word to say about him! It really bugs me when people slag off a public figure unjustly, as you did. I know anyone who met the late Roy Hudd will confirm what I've said. No idea what went wrong when you met him to make you so poisonous about him. Whatever it was, I'm certain it says more about you than it does about that lovely, big hearted and much-missed man.

TRULY EXCELLENT PROGRAM AND MISSED. NEVER IN TODAY'S WORLD COULD IT BE MADE AGAIN.
Oh, I remember this. I was married in 1977, but as I was growing up this was our weekly entertainment. Leonard Sachs and all.
Larry Grayson was truly a great British showbiz performer. Within 30 seconds, he had the audience in the palm of his hand.

Even though I'm American I really like this show a lot. It gives you an idea of what entertainment was like back in the day.

Billy Dainty. Genius beyond compare.

The only saving grace of this edition was the lovely Larry Grayson, just superb. Literally 38 minutes of utter dross, before we got to the gold.
Music hall is better than your 1970s dross.
A reminder of darker times. What a better place our world is today
