- ✿ Hey beautiful! It’s Gina from orchidandopal.com. I can't wait to show you more about the Flat Chenille beading stitch in today's video tutorial. This is a very versatile bead weaving technique that I have had so much fun playing around with, lately. As you can see, flat chenille creates a lattice-like, and almost woven, slinky, fabric-like strip of beadwork. It's also very secure, and holds tightly together due to the nature of how the rows become beaded together.
✿ We aren't completing one entire single piece this time, but I will have complete flat chenille jewelry tutorials coming in the future. Today, let's focus on the basics. That way, you'll be even more prepared when attempting a full piece.

Hi all! 💜 I hope you enjoy playing around with this versatile beading technique! This one will prob take a little more practice if you are new, but it's worth it! 😅 I have included "Chapters" (time-stamps) to mark each section of the video, so hopefully that helps when backing it up to repeat steps. 😀 Here is the link to the corresponding blog post: www.orchidandopal.com/blog/flat-chenille-beading-stitch-101-tutorial-for-beginners. Thanks for watching!! 💜See you soon! 😀
I love these pieces, it was well taught. Thanks a lot
Thanks a bunch, Mabel! 💜💜💜
As usual, you've made it very clear through demonstration and explanation, how to do this stitch. Green/beige colorway is my fave, but that little swatch of purple/teal comes in a close second. Thanks, Gina, for sharing with us.
Thank you, Sue! 💜💜💜
When you published this video I got inspired. I have tried this stitch before, but I was excited about the use of picasso beads! I thought that it would be very pretty with 6/0 and 8/0 beads as I have some of those in picasso finish. I tried it yesterday, and it was just as pretty as I imagined. And of course faster to make :) I love it. Thank you!
That's so wonderful to hear! Thank you for sharing!! 💜💜💜
Just wanted you to know. You ruined me. I can't stand any one else on RUclips. You do an awesome job. Teaching, explaining, and the cadence of your speech is so enjoyable 🌼
Awww, thank you so much, Pamela!! I love that you were able to find me, and that you are really enjoying my vids. Thank you for being here! 💜💜💜
Beautiful! As always, you make it look so easy. I'll add this tutorial to my list. Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge.
Thanks so much, Crystal! :)
Thank you! You’ve made this so much easier. I could’nt get passed row 3 as that first turn just wasn’t right. I made stuff up but it didnt look the same. 2 watches of this while beading along and I finally got it. You are so right the further along, you understand what needs to come next. Thanks again!!
💜💜💜 I am so glad you pushed through!! Excellent!
I absolutely love this stitch 🤩
Thank you so much!
I'm so excited for more with this stitch!
I am so glad to hear that! Thank you for watching! :)
I’ve always wanted to try this stitch. Thanks for a great tutorial!
I'm so glad this will be helpful for you, Loyce! Thanks for watching!
This is a really pretty stitch and I haven’t had much practice with it so thank you for sharing this tutorial!! 💜
You're so welcome, Sharon! It's such a great stitch to know! 💜💜💜
This was a fun one 😀😀 thank you. It’s gonna take a bit of practice but I’m thrilled to learn a new stitch! ❤️❤️
I'm so glad you're excited, Caitlin! It's worth a bit of practice. Not hard, just a few more steps to think about. Thanks for watching! :D
One of my favorite stitches! and that toggle clasp is stunning!
I can definitely understand why!! Isn't that toggle great?!?! 💜💜💜
@@ORCHIDandOPAL Where can we buy that toggle clasp?
My 2021 New Year's Resolution was to learn bead weaving. I did a tubular chenille stitch fairly early on, but I'm glad I didn't try flat chenille until now. It's a bit tricky, isn't it! Thanks for being such a great bead weaving teacher. With your guidance, I successfully completed a narrower version of the checkerboard bracelet with the picasso 8/0 beads. I'm very pleased with how pretty it came out.
Awww, that is SO great to hear! Thank you for sharing that with me! 💜💜💜
I love the unique clasps. I’m going to practice this with seed beads before I use fire polish beads.
Great idea, Annette! Thanks for watching! 💜💜💜
Thank you for another great tutorial ! Your videos are so clearly explained and easy to follow😊
I'm so glad you think so! Thanks so much for being here 💜
so wonderful, thanks for sharing.
You're so welcome, Megan! Thanks for watching! 💜💜💜
Thanks Gina. That was a great video tutorial! I've already made a sample which I might turn into a bracelet.
Awesome, Lindy! Thank you!! 💜😁
I've been struggling with this one because it's so pretty - then I found PONDO STITCH on Eureka Beads. It looks very similar, and it's SO much easier. I appreciate a good tutorial for this one though. Thank you Gina.
OMG I neeed to watch that video! LOL. Thanks for the reminder! 💜💜💜
Thanks so much for showing us this beautiful stitch! You are an excellent teacher, taking lots of time, making sure your work stays in view, and explaining everything so carefully. I will be giving this a try soon!
One question, does this always require two different sizes of beads, or could it be done with just one?
Thank you so much, Jackie! You can definitely do this with beads of all the same size for a slightly different look. 💜💜💜
I'm really stumped! The end of the rows is what's getting me! I wish you had gone over the end of the rows one more time. Because there should be 2 8/0s and then an 11/0 at the end. But somehow it is not working for me and I've tried it over and over about 6 or 7 times and it's not right!
Thank you. So beautiful. Do you have to use 2 size beads
Hi Barbara! It is best to use two sizes for this stitch due to the way the beads fit together. 💜💜💜
Great tutorial! I will be trying this out. Just curious, could you do this stitch using the same size beads?
Thank you so much, KC! Yes, you definitely can do this with the same size beads. 💜💜💜
@@ORCHIDandOPAL Just to clarify, I re-read my question and it might be confusing lol. In your tutorial you used two sizes of beads, could I do that but instead of having two different size beads, I use the same size, like maybe just using 2 different colors or will that affect how the finished piece will look?
Has I was preparing for the Flat Chenille class I was going to teach I made up several swatches to show my students. Have you tried using Super Duos or other Two Hole beads? It took some finagling but it is possible. Flat Chenille is one of most flexible stitches when it comes to the type of bead combinations you can come up with.
Awesome!! I haven't done the flat chenille with 2-hole yet, but thanks for putting that on my radar!! 💜💜💜
This seems very similar to the London stitch, same effect but a different way to go about it.😉
Oh, neat! I will have to look that up! Thanks for watching, Josee! 💜💜💜
@@ORCHIDandOPAL sorry, my stupid IPad replaced « Pondo « stitch by London. Sometimes, I just hate these things.... lol
Omg thank you so much!!
You are so very welcome! Thanks for watching! 💜💜💜
👍
💜💜💜
😍
Thanks for watching, Nancy!
Where did you find the specialty clasps? Did you says the company is Symbol or simble?
Hi Pamela! These are from the brand called Cymbal. I have linked them below the video, but got them from Eureka Crystal Beads dot com. :)
Will it work to use all one size bead?
Hi Karin! For this stitch to work as intended, two sizes will be needed. Thanks for watching!
