It's not as dry and cut, there's been several theologians fighting over whether Lucifer and Satan are the same or not since...well, since the Middle Ages. All because of the expression of "morning star" which is 9/10 times used for Lucifer, but then in some instances, it's ALSO used to refer to Satan, hence the theological infighting. Keep in mind that unlike popular belief, the content of the Bible got rewritten a lot, by stuff being added, taken out, modified when translated, and so on.
@YakuKikyo cool! In this universe Satan and Lucifer are not the same. It follows the Seven Deadly sins + Circles of Hell concept, where commonly the demons are Lucifer, Satan, Beelzebub, Mammon, Azmodeus, Belphagor and Leviathan.
I believe thay Satan is a position like a prosecutor in the 'Divine court' I don't remember the specific Religion for Breakfast episode...or was it ESOTERICA? they were dipping into the Jewish side of the theology.
17:48 personally, I thought of this as her getting more angular as she has to become more strict and take more responsibility, not only for herself, but for the hotel and its inhabitants as well. so she became a bit different compared to the Pilot because of that, and also Alastor.
"Huh... Fine. I'll do episode two. Bye :D!" I love you so so so so so so much. (btw, I would love to see you analizing the redesigns, Specifically for Vaggie, is my favorite redesign, such a clever design)

What I like about Skyen's videos is that unlike many others, he doesn't say what he thinks everyone wants to hear, but rather his honest opinion. When he compliments something, I know he really means it and his criticisms (even if I don't always agree with what he says), are constructive. In addition, he is intelligent enough to discuss interesting concepts in depth and he allows me to learn new things, like at the beginning when he talks about the lore about the Christian religion.
Vivziepop is using 7th Deadly Sins with this source of information material. Just like that in her hell you have 7th rings which are one under another and pride ring is on top has 9 cycles 1. Pentagram city, 2.Imp city; ... Lucifer (Fallen Angel of Pride), Satan (Devil of Wrath), Leviathan (Dragon of Envy), Asmodeus (Nephil of Lust), Mammon (Demon of Greed), Belphegor (Demon of Sloth), Beelzebub (Fallen Angel of Gluttony) But they all are mostly not angels too.

If you’re curious about world building, I’d like to recommend Hazbin Hotel’s sister show, Helluva Boss! It’s here on RUclips, and is very much set in hell and focuses on not sinner demons.
Along with the reccomend is a warning; it is very similar to Hazbin Hotel Pilot in its juvenile takes, simply because its older and doesn't have the foresight of professional industry work like the Hazbin Hotel series has.
Yes this! Would love to see Skyen check out Helluva Boss! And while it starts sort of rough in the pilot and first episode (like the pilot in Hazbin Hotel), it REALLY becomes more streamlined and consistent the further on it goes - and I would love to hear Skyens take on how the show deals with trauma and how that trauma manifests in relationships, both platonic and otherwise. Especially from an aromantic perspective, I think that would be so interesting!
For my own understanding of "what is Sin in Hazbin hotel". After watching the first season a couple of times and watching it's sister show, Helluva Boss, an even greater amount of times, i think it goes like this: 1) A sin is an act that inflicts pain or that has the potential to inflict pain on anybody (that includes yourself). that would include the obvious like theft murder and the R** word that can't be said on RUclips, but it would also include addiction and alcoholism because those are harmful acts and behaviors with the potential of hurting you and others. 2) the Seven deadly sins (and yes, this show and Helluva Boss, go with the deadly sins concept) are the temptations that can "guide" a person into doing acts that inflict pain. As a few examples: murder guided by wrath, addiction guided by gluttony, theft guided by Greed or infidelity guided by lust just to mention a few possibilities.
18:10 I actually love the added sharpness to Charlie's design. She's still softer and more rounded than most of the other designs but that sharpness creates a really nice contrast with her personality. She's got the personality of a Disney princess and the rosey cheeks and blonde hair make her look cute but that gets contrasted with the sharp nails, fangs and clothes. Plus she's got sharp edges in her hair, the red peeking out from underneath it and I believe her shoes are meant to somewhat resemble goat feet (goats being associated with demons). To me at least it creates this feeling of "Oh look at this sweet Disney princess! Wait, are those fangs? And what's with all the red? There's something off here." It's also very interesting that she's the most human looking of the main cast since Lilith is a human originally.
18:05 I think your initial reading in the pilot remains valid, but that her design has evolved a bit to give a bit more depth. Either as "rough around the edges" in her goodness, she means well but is kind of forcefull about it, or as a "this rose has thorns" that for all the nice things she is, she has the potential to not be, she is still the princess of hell and chose to be a nice person where it'd be so easy to just use power to get her way. Overall she still looks "nice and gentle" but if you pay attention, she still has sharp nails if you push her hard enough. That's my reading, or for the hair it could be that it's just that she is all over the place and even with her numerous headbands it's not enough to contain it/her ideas in a focused manner.
1:09:12 that's an interesting observation! I really like the dynamic they created between Charlie and Alastor, that he is upfront with his disbelief in her cause but still is (second only to Vaggie) one of her biggest supporters (so far in the story). And that Charlie, while appreciative of that, is still quite aware of his character and doesn't operates in the belief he is on her side the same way Vaggie is. It creates an interesting tension between them!
I can not express how much I love this, the animation, the storytelling, the details! I can't wait to have Skyen go through this whole experience and make all of us freaks happy ^_^
Glad to see the channel back! Hazbin Hotel has quickly become one of my favorite shows (though I'm not really apart of the "fandom," so to speak.) With its songs on repeat. I'm also glad you're continuing the reactions and analysis!
I love all the analysis and predictions! Its crazy seeing reactions from someone who actually engages with the media and its themes! I feel like I want you directors commentary style over literally everything I watch.
I would say that parallel watching isn't the most convenient way to watch a reaction but with your energy it was very entertaining and worth the struggle even with 6 second difference in our timings (yeah, as Russian person I don't have easy access to Prime but I supported Vivziepop enough with Patreon and merch bought to pirate the show)
Your point on how while Alastor thinks the hotel is nonsense, he's still providing support for it, if for cynical reasons, brought to mind something I've thought about before in general and in regards to Hazbin specifically. It's that moral question of what counts for more- actions or intentions? Could Alastor be redeemed despite himself, just by doing the right things?
The twitter discourse had me thinking Hazbin Hotel wasn't worth watching, but you've inspired me to give it a go and I have to say it's very good so far. Thanks for proving them wrong!
specifically, Husk is a mix of a Cat, Husky and an Owl, With poker visual elements. Funny thing about Alastor is that he has Hoofs as feet and even his shoes has hoof marks. And he has a Tail down the coat.
I am so exited to have you do this series, it was a ton of fun doing an analytical watch along and I honestly only see it getting better. Also the reaction to Keith David suddenly being Husk was exactly what I was hoping for
Yeah, Alastor’s design is a little funky until you start to dig deeper into it. He is based off a deer, which connects to his backstory of how he died in a deer hunting related accident. The genius of it comes later on, when you realise that, as a cannibal, the antlers and deer theme tie back into the legend of the Wendigo, a mythological creature known for those very same attributes. You’ll also be able to note that, because his design is fairly singular in terms of colour, your eyes are often drawn to the yellow of his teeth, which in turn, draws you to his ever-present smile. His signature.
I couldn’t pin down where I had heard Adam’s voice until the final episode when it dawned on me, since I’d only seen bits of BeetleJuice Musical via the gorgeous Shnikkels videos.
I love this series and how thoughtful and thorough you are, even seeing the episode for the very first time with little context. Looking forward to the next episode!
This is quickly becoming my favorite Hazbin Hotel reaction series.... between the solid animation critique, the surprisingly thorough religious background, and the way too accurate Tumblr commentary, this honestly is just the best lol. Watching along was actually surprisingly fun as well. Looking forward to seeing more!
I absolutely adore your reviews of this. Your critiques are so thought out and you still manage to illustrate your enjoyment of the episodes clearly. Can't wait to see more if you do plan to watch more. Also don't feel bad about going over an hour with this because there was a lot to cover with the re-establishment of the characters. From here on in you probably won't get too near going over an hour, but honestly as a viewer I enjoy it nonetheless.
At some point I would love to see your take on Helluva Boss which has the interesting quality of being made by youtube animators like the pilot, but much more professional level ones (or ones with more budget). Comparing season 2 of that show that season 1 of hazbin hotel, I'd say helluva boss looks more high budget it some ways! and it has some more of the quirks of indie such as a ton of background characters that are obviously the animator's self inserts. i wouldn't be surprised if a majority of the amazon money went to the broadway voice cast (though helluva has quite a few names in it too so it might still be a puzzle)
I like the idea that Alex Brightman was like "Actually I like this silly demon show sure I wouldnt mind doing more VA work for the OTHER silly demon show"
Glad to see the channel is back! I do really like seeing your reaction to this series in general, specifically for the reason of you not having any attachment to this series at all. Since you never watched the pilot episode when it dropped all those years ago, it is fun to see a genuinely fresh perspective on it. Can't wait for the episode 2 reaction, and if you are interested, I recommend the other series they do Helluva Boss, which was actually kept in-house, but is also already on RUclips as well. It's set in the same universe, but focuses on different characters, does more worldbuilding, and also focuses on an entirely different side of the Hell.
I got an analysis about Hazbini Hotel from a Muslim perspective: I’m not sure with Christianity, but in Islam Hell is just as much a prison to the devil (lucifer specifically cuz Satan is a different character) as much is for the sinners. As a punishment for his defiance against Allah, but what’s another thing interesting. Hell isn’t permanent, eventually Hell will be emptied of its occupants. In the context of HH, Hell becoming empty by extermination….or Charlie’s plan succeeding. As to Allah, hell isn’t revenge or punishment for the sinners, but a form of rehab to the sinful (not lucifer hes stuck there). AND WHAT IS THE HAZBIN HOTEL?
The Christian bible and ideology also does directly state Hell is a prison, the idea that Satan is the ruler of Hell is that he still tries to tempt people, leading most casual religious people to assume he wants people to come to Hell because he rules over them.
@@miclash013 Not to different in Islam, the deviation of course being the purpose of Hell is seen as a form of rehab and will become vacant, realizing how 1-1 the premise of the show with real life theology makes me appreciate Spindle Horse's homework. Would've been to just use Christianity.
Lucifer ain’t Satan in this. Also Alastor is a deer because when he died he was mistaken for a deer by a hunter while burying the bodies of his victims. Ironically his favorite meat is venison so he often cannibalizes on other deer.
@@Shythalia Yeah, I know that bit, but we are talking about visual design here. In later episodes his wendigo nature becomes even more apparent, even with "trademark" sounds.
i really wanna see you react to the whole thing due to the themes and your guesses on the character arcs, it would be really satisfying to see you experience the bits you got right or wrong
6:57 I believe Lilith first appeared in supplementary Abrahamic texts to explain the inconsistencies of Adam's Wife being somehow both his equal yet sometimes subservient so Lilith was made to explain that (its a bit more complicated than that but I'm not an expert)
Alastor is supposed to be deer themed, but you will see in later episodes that he is really more wendigo than deer in his full demon form. You can also see the wendigo aspect in his shadow. He has a lot of hidden elements to his design that I won't spoil, but you will see it emerge in future episodes.
First episode and you already predicted some stuff for future arcs! Wow!! Hopefully we get to see your reactions to all the episodes, some questions you’ve made here and in the pilot start being answered a bit later down the line. Also good first reading of the characters, they only get more fleshed out from now on soooo, excited to see your next analysis!
Extra from 44:11 mins PLEASE get to episode 4 and if possible 6. Won't say what exactly i'm referring to but certain questions you're raising are kind off answered or also questioned in universe. OH HELLS PLEASE!
After watching the entire season, i believe the main "theme" (A plot) is exploring the "grey area" between bad and good, using the hotel as a medium (B plot). Despite our opinion of Sera siding with the villain, Sera doesn't seems to hate the idea of redemption, rather the risk factor. What happened to Sir Pentious at the end proven that the black and white rules in this Universe is a blur. Potentially, we are politically dealing with dictatorship vs free will here, so we will have to solve this issue and explore the limit of redemption.
This was fun! Watching along and pausing when he tells us to pause. It was like a little game! Also, I've watched all the episodes. He is already spot on with some of his analysis.
I have to admit, I ended up actually watching the full series after watching you analyze the pilot (which I watched and loved forever ago), and now I'm coming back to watch this after watching the whole season and I'm super excited to see you talk about the rest of the show!
I'm just gonna say, absolutely enjoying listening in on the journey you're going through with the show. We also had the exact same revelation with Adam bring voiced by Alex Brightman (we kinda cheated because we knew he was in the cast before), but the second he started singing, we figured it out! Vivziepop's other show here on RUclips, Helluva Boss is set in the same universe as hazbin, just on different levels of hell. They also got Alex Brightman for a couple voices in that show starting season 2(?) I think.
Hey, you're back! Great! It's fun watching you watch along, and even more fun listening to your guesses as to where things are going. This far you've been right about some surprisingly specific things, which I suppose is to the show's credit if it can set things up so well in just the first episode.
Since I don't know how far along you plan to watch I don't want to spoil too much. What I do want to do is to give you notice that the show intentionally does not go deeply into what constitutes sin, it is permanently kept vague which leads to a key reveal in episode 6. As such, don't expect the show to give any sort of clarity on it, anytime soon.
Alastor is a deer! Because He died being shoot by mistake by a hunter who thought he was a deer in the forest where he was hiding one of the bodies of his killing

49:58 not Skyen calling out EXACTLY Luck’s role in this show from episode one 😂😂😂
Bye :D!"
I love you so so so so so so much.
(btw, I would love to see you analizing the redesigns, Specifically for Vaggie, is my favorite redesign, such a clever design)
The italian dub is pretty good as a native speaker i really appreciated finally having a good dub
We’re back bois 👏🏻👏🏻 so excited to hear your thoughts on this!
I enjoy hearing your untainted assumptions of where the story is going. It's interesting listening to someone that's unaware of the fandom and extended lore. I honestly enjoy your conjectures and opinions.
Honestly can't wait for your thoughts on the rest of the episode up to the finale.
Who else is just playing the episode in their head?
Lol me
Lol! I am
Yep
I was watching in sync but I had to go out on an errand halfway through so i'm doing just that rn🐭
I tried but I kept pausing my brain too late
Watching this in dead silence is hilarious
Your foresight is insane.
fr, he predicted so many character personalitys right it's unbelievable.
It's the glasses
I read this as “foreskin.” I'm going to bury myself now.
You know what is refreshing about your commentary is that it isn't long for the sake of extending the watch time to an absurd degree. Even your tangents have a lot of interesting insight, I'm very glad to have found your channel!
Lucifer (Fallen Angel of Pride), Satan (Devil of Wrath), Leviathan (Dragon of Envy), Asmodeus (Nephil of Lust), Mammon (Demon of Greed), Belphegor (Demon of Sloth), Beelzebub (Fallen Angel of Gluttony)
But they all are mostly not angels too.
I thought Bee was just a demon. Where did you get that she was a falle angel? She certainly has no angelic features
Whats a Nephil? Google isn't helping
@@aria5614child of an angel with something else
@@aria5614 Short for Nephilin an Half-Angel half demon being. Charlie is one being the daughter of Lucifer an Angel and Lilith a demon (Maybe even the first demon). But it's not really confirmed yet. But Nephilims are half angel half demon beings.

And, no need for copywrite prevention!
angel is in hell because he was in the mafia when he was alive
For my own understanding of "what is Sin in Hazbin hotel". After watching the first season a couple of times and watching it's sister show, Helluva Boss, an even greater amount of times, i think it goes like this:
1) A sin is an act that inflicts pain or that has the potential to inflict pain on anybody (that includes yourself).
that would include the obvious like theft murder and the R** word that can't be said on RUclips, but it would also include addiction and alcoholism because those are harmful acts and behaviors with the potential of hurting you and others.
You got it pretty close about Angel, but HO BOY just wait till episode 4 . . . that'll definitely close your loop on his state. Probably Husk's too.
Don’t underestimate the request of your reaction on this series…
Thanks for proving them wrong!
my god i wont confirm on what, but you nailed a lot on your takes. eager to see the next reactions!
Alistar is based on a deer
And husk is a cat
Alastor*
specifically, Husk is a mix of a Cat, Husky and an Owl, With poker visual elements.
Funny thing about Alastor is that he has Hoofs as feet and even his shoes has hoof marks. And he has a Tail down the coat.
Alistar? The popular support champion from the small indie game league of legends?thougth he was a cow
Alistar is a cow
@@misinoemag989at several points he shows his powers and his antlers branch out. Very obviously not cow horns
I love how many different topics you tackle while reacting to this episode!
I'm learning so much as well and seeing the show in a new light.
I am so exited to have you do this series, it was a ton of fun doing an analytical watch along and I honestly only see it getting better. Also the reaction to Keith David suddenly being Husk was exactly what I was hoping for
Kinda love how he was thinking it was a Chi-Ro on Adam’s chest and not just a stylized A.
Your perspective on this was very refreshing to hear.
I love this series and how thoughtful and thorough you are, even seeing the episode for the very first time with little context. Looking forward to the next episode!
I will be watching your two hour reaction to episode 6 with popcorn
I like the idea that Alex Brightman was like "Actually I like this silly demon show sure I wouldnt mind doing more VA work for the OTHER silly demon show"
@@gearguts7259 that definitely does happen! gilbert gottfriend and christopher lloyd do a show for pbskids and get paid peanuts
Not gonna spoil anything but you absolutely hit the nail on the head about a future character here haha
I got an analysis about Hazbini Hotel from a Muslim perspective:
I’m not sure with Christianity, but in Islam Hell is just as much a prison to the devil (lucifer specifically cuz Satan is a different character) as much is for the sinners.
Oooh. That also makes the question of what happens when you die twice more meaningful too
Lucifer ain’t Satan in this.
Also Alastor is a deer because when he died he was mistaken for a deer by a hunter while burying the bodies of his victims. Ironically his favorite meat is venison so he often cannibalizes on other deer.
52:10 “Nakedly a piece of shit.”
Badumtish
That's an awesome way to publish show reactions on RUclips! The "3,2,1" thing is great. Amazing video
25:47 Alastor supposed to be a Wendigo of some kind. Or at least based heavily on elk.
No, he's just "part-deer" because when he died, a hunter mistook him for a deer while he was hiding a body or something.
@@Shythalia Yeah, I know that bit, but we are talking about visual design here. In later episodes his wendigo nature becomes even more apparent, even with "trademark" sounds.
His original design was a deer in a zootopia comic, really that simple. Wendigo similarities were coincidental. that "trademark sound" is just a deer.
@@immortalfriend2281Well, pop-culture wendigo. The actual creature of indigenous American folklore doesn’t have the deer associations.
Skyen finding the Hazbin hotel reaction meta
I am so excited for this Skyen! Love your insight and analysis as always. Can't wait for ep 2 and beyond!
i really wanna see you react to the whole thing due to the themes and your guesses on the character arcs, it would be really satisfying to see you experience the bits you got right or wrong
Vaggie has a bit of Spanish in the pilot too, both in the limousine and after alastor shows up, it’s just a bit hard to catch sometimes
49:58 HELP DJSHJFJSJS
I also can't wait for you to get to ep 4. it's my favourite episode and probably the best episode of the show
Extra from 44:11 mins
PLEASE get to episode 4 and if possible 6. Won't say what exactly i'm referring to but certain questions you're raising are kind off answered or also questioned in universe.
OH HELLS PLEASE!
32:46 IS THAT A PHUCKING AMONG US? No, no, it's a chair. But- Hmnm
If you look a Alastor because he is smiling all the time, his eyes are what really shows what he is thinking.
Alastor is an actual demon in demonology. He isn't actually based on a wendigo (a deer-like creature), which is a common confusion.
This guy just called it so hard with Lucifer
I love your delight in all things animation. Please continue the series, so many if your observations are accurate
adam's angel buddy ended up being one of my favourite side characters. i'm a sucker for blindly loyal minions though.
YES THE CHANNEL IS BACK UP!!!
Alastor is based on the pop culture rendition of a wendigo. Those are antlers
The Radio demon gives me a little bit of a Owl vibe by the torso and ears
"Is that a fucking among us...?"
You nailed a lot of things on the head.
I have seen a couple of reactions to this show so far, and i must say, this is probably my favorite one so far.
Hey, you're back! Great! It's fun watching you watch along, and even more fun listening to your guesses as to where things are going. This far you've been right about some surprisingly specific things, which I suppose is to the show's credit if it can set things up so well in just the first episode.
31:36 Oh Skyen you sweet summer child you have no idea lol
Don’t know if it’s sad or amusing that I don’t have to do the watch along to know where you’re at in the episode.
can't wait for more of these reactions!! i'm loving them so far. i love how observant and knowledgeable you are.
I would love to see more reaction stuff like this. Rewatching Hazbin Hotel with you is fascinating. I can't wait for episode 2!
I watched the pilot analysis and was waiting for this! Please I beg u do the whole show! It’s so damn good.
Alastor is a deer! Because He died being shoot by mistake by a hunter who thought he was a deer in the forest where he was hiding one of the bodies of his killing
Woot, welcome back online. As for the quality bump, oh yeah. It’s Fantastic.
