I'm so damn old, I laugh when people mention "The Shining". Living in NYC, we had so many radio stations (114) in the 1940s & so many were nostalgia. I knew of Al Bowlly as a child in the mid '40s, just liked it when my mom played his hits. My mother was a radio geek. The thing was on from early morning till late evening -- until television arrived.
It's all forgotten now, the trouble and the pain Forgotten, every word I said Forgotten, every tear you shed We're still in love It's all forgiven now, we're back in Lover's Lane And though we wandered from our way The corner's turned and we can say We're still in love For you and I, and everybody Must learn to give and take We'll find, like everybody It's worth it for happiness' sake It's all forgotten now, we're happy once again Our trouble gone beyond recall And making up is best of all We're still in love
Jazzbaby, I have listened to this song many times over the past couple of years. So much so, that when my partner and I watched "The Shining" and the song came on during the men's room scene, my partner remarked, "I know this song!" I turned to him, smiled, and said, "Yes, you do." I can't get enough of this music and Al Bowlly. Thank you.
I have loved this song for over 50 years. With "Midnight, The Stars and You", this Bowlly masterpiece ( thanks to Ray Noble) make my lifelong hit parade. Bowlly had a tragic death at age 40 in the London blitz. He was the Bing Crosby of Britain in the same time frame from mid '20s to 1940.
I have a copy of the same 78 record of the great Al Bowlly singing Its All Forgotten Now. I play it on a Columbia Truphonic phonograph from 1927. Sounds heavenly...
Hi. In case you haven't found it yet, this song is track #21on a CD called "Ray Noble and his New Mayfair Dance Orchestra with Al Bowlly, disc 3. It's on the Rathbone label. There are ten cd's in all and they include "every recording Al Bowlly made with Ray Noble in England."
Love this tune, too - someone posted on EBay an article about the Netherland Plaza Hotel in Cincinnati, OH. (perhpas this country's best xample of French Art Deco stylee - from 1931) using this tune as it's backdrop - perfect for this! Thanks for posting!
Oh, man...this is one of my three favorite Noble-Bowlly ballads...at the beginning, after the piano intro, when the saxes and violins come in...it just kills me every time. And Harry Jacobsen...my fave British dance band pianist...his fill-ins behind Al are just super...thanks for posting so others can enjoy this one!
I am not a big Al Bowlly fan BUT WOW THIS SONG IS WONDERFUL. The orchestra and Al are in perfect step, smooth as chocolate I think this is going to be one of my favourite records to. many thanks for the posting FABULOUS.

I hope you’re doing well Jack, thank you for sharing this memory.
12 years old, Al is one of my favorites. But this song is by far the best.
This song was from 1934
@@Matt78collector So? To them it was like 10 year old songs to us today that come on the radio. Songs just happened to repeat even if they are older
Its all forgotten now - a song and a singer never to be forgotten
me, being a hardcore fan of alternative rock and punk, i have such a soft spot for music from the 20s, 30s, 40s, i love it :)
It's all forgotten now, the trouble and the pain
Forgotten, every word I said
Forgotten, every tear you shed
We're still in love
It's all forgiven now, we're back in Lover's Lane
And though we wandered from our way
The corner's turned and we can say
We're still in love
For you and I, and everybody
Must learn to give and take
We'll find, like everybody
It's worth it for happiness' sake
It's all forgotten now, we're happy once again
Our trouble gone beyond recall
And making up is best of all
We're still in love

I can't get enough of this music and Al Bowlly. Thank you.
This might be my favorite record, too. It's just divine.
What I would not do to own one of those old RCA Victor record turntables manufactured in Camden after 1915. With a 78, the audio is superb.

YOU are the caretaker Mr Torrence...

The caretaker ruined old timey music for me, but in a way made it so much more impactful
Nice old phonographs...
...I don't think I remember that, sir.
You’ve always been the caretaker.
