    Suggestion - You should have music in the background of your reviews so in the blank spaces when you're not talking, there is something to fill in the gaps and keeps the video intriguing and overall review flowing. But overall great video.

    I think it's unofficially called Miata everywhere. I had my own ND for just two weeks now but didn't hear anyone refer to it by anything else than Miata here in Slovakia. Anyhow, great review!

    • @carbuzzcom
      @carbuzzcom  8 лет назад

      Thanks for watching the review! Yeah, I think unofficially just about everyone everywhere calls it the Miata, but Mazda has its own reasons for branding from one country/region to another.

    • @jesperhald3969
      @jesperhald3969 8 лет назад +1

      In Scandinavia it's only mentioned as the MX-5, but of course if you mention the Miata-name, every enthusiast knows what you're talking about! :-)

    • @dethak

      Same as Jesper says in Autralia - every enthusiast knows the Miata name, but it's only ever referred to as MX-5.

    I have to completely disagree with you about Mazda nailing the return of design to the original. It just isn't. After I bought the 2016 ND, I also bought a 1990 original. They're two very different cars, and 9 out of 10 times, I prefer to take the 1990 out for a quick errand or drive. Sure, it's a very good car. Much better than the previous version.
    You're right about no direct competitors. The S2000 is NOT a competitor since they haven't made one since 2009. It's in a unique class. Sporty convertible under $30k (even though completely decked out it can go to $33k like mine). Your camera work was great though.

    • @carbuzzcom
      @carbuzzcom  8 лет назад +1

      I'm glad you enjoyed the review and camerawork as well. What I meant by nailing the ND's design is that Mazda returned to the spirit of the original by reducing the car's mass and weight. You're a Miata guy; the car got bigger and heavier with both the 2nd and 3rd gen cars. The ND, like the original, keeps everything simple and lightweight.

    • @goodeggproductions
      @goodeggproductions 8 лет назад +1

      CarBuzz - Unboxing Everyday Cars and Supercars Ok, I'll agree with you there. Mazda got "almost" everything right about this car. Except the steering. I like both, but I love my 1990.

      +audhen1 Actually the weight distribution of the 2016 2.0 L MX-5 Club has been measured by Car and Driver at 51.9:48.1. With the added weight of a driver it should be fairly close to 50:50.

      You are right everyone needs to drive the 1.5 and the 2.0 there is a difference on twisty lanes, as you enter the corner the 2.0 tends to dive in a tad more than the 1.5
      The Fiat version is even worse , not that either are that bad but for me the 1.5 is about as perfect a roadster as Mazda is able to produce at a sensible price hence that's why I purchased one.
      If you don't smile when you drive it you are motoring dead and need a check up from the neck up

      Devonte Murray That's stupid

  • @TomesEsq
    @TomesEsq 8 лет назад +1

    Drove it. It's SUBSTANTIALLY underpowered. Can you have fun with it if you have a completely open, twisty road where you are constantly ripping through the gears and revving it out? Yes, but it takes a LOT of work to have fun. It DOESN'T come naturally to this car without having to work harder than you really want to for it. It REALLY needs a turbocharged option. They are limiting their customer base by refusing to offer it. Throw in a turbo, call it a MazdaSpeed, and be done with it.

    • @carbuzzcom
      @carbuzzcom  8 лет назад +2

      I don't think the MX-5 Miata is substantially underpowered, but a few extra ponies certainly won't hurt. A turbocharged version, however, probably won't happen:

      Motor Trend did a zero to sixty in 5.8 seconds. That is not slow.

      I've owned one for a few months now, everything you have said is wrong.

    • @WhenTheUhh
      @WhenTheUhh 8 лет назад +1

      +Ben Stern I also have the 2 liter with LSD, Bilstein shocks and all the goodies, but believe me 5.8 second run is just not possible. I know that in MT they use a one foot rollout for their 0-60 timing, but still I don't even. Premium fuel, nice evening temperature, no passenger, all systems off, tank close to empty, not too high above sea level, perfectly flat surface... And I'm consistently getting around 7 seconds from 0 to 100 km/h. I know metric ain't imperial and I don't measure the rolling, but that can't do a 1.2 second difference. That concludes my rant against MT timing, otherwise the car is just perfect and it sure doesn't feel slow or severely underpowered.

    honda s2000?

    • @carbuzzcom
      @carbuzzcom  8 лет назад

      I mainly review new cars and the Honda S2000 has been out of production for several years now. BUT. I'm working on trying to get some older cars to unbox and the S2000 is at the top of my list!

    • @namele55777
      @namele55777 8 лет назад +1

      actually, I was thinking "S2000, S2000!" during the part when you talked about the mx-5's closest rivals but I suppose you were referring to brand new cars right now.
      otherwise the s2000 would be an epic contender for simple, naturally-aspirated, topless fun.

    • @carbuzzcom
      @carbuzzcom  8 лет назад +1

      Again you are correct regarding comparing new cars to other new cars. But I like your idea about bringing up older cars that, if they were still around today, they'd be competitors.

  • @steelheart4148

    • @carbuzzcom

      Of course! But my completely scientific-based suggestion is to put the top up first. Good luck.

  • @OICU81272
    @OICU81272 8 лет назад +2

    Still needs to be more aggressive looking and well,,, abit bigger to fit people over 5'8"....Still even today I'd take a S2000 over this, regardless of the popularity of the Miata..

    • @carbuzzcom
      @carbuzzcom  8 лет назад +1

      More aggressive looking means extra body weight. Won't happen. And tall people will never fit in the MX-5 for the same reason.

    • @Lee-70ish
      @Lee-70ish 7 лет назад +1

      Im 6' and own one.
      I have to have the seat one notch forward so the room is fine yes its small but that's what gives the car its fun handling.
      Mine is the UK spec Icon model with the 1.5 lump 52 imperial gallon mpg is normal.
      Anyone who comes out with the gay/hairdressers car knows nothing about what a roadster is and what the concept.
      By the by only the 1.5 is 50/50 the 2.0 is slightly nose heavy which having driven both does effect the cornering .
      Perhaps that's why the 1.5 is more popular outside of North America.
      Overall is it the perfect roadster absolutely not but then no car is perfect.
      However it come bloody close and if you don't get the concept of the MX5 you don't get drive/car Interaction .
      Best to stick with the hot hatches or straight line tyre smokers.

    • @newwavetheo

      Cool car, but it kills off one of the main reasons why Mazda designed this car and its platform in the first place: reliability. Some people nickname it the "Fiata".

    • @Lee-70ish
      @Lee-70ish 7 лет назад +1

      Fiat power plant is the downer on the 124
      The MX lump is much better and IMHO of the 2 Mazda engines the 1.5 beats the 2.0.
      Mainly because its had some major reworking from the head to the crank shaft.
      The 2.0 is almost identical to the unit used in their hatch back .plus of course what really sells the 1.5 is that the car was designed for that powerplant giving a true 50/50 weight distribution. Neither the fiat nor the 2.0 units do that .
      The fiat looks nice but the MX drives better. (I have driven all three models and bought the 1.5 over the others)
