Let a old lady give her two cents worth.... If it wasn't for the fact that I enjoy Madilyn's covers, I would never of heard this song.... I love the message it contains.... I went and listened to the original with K'naan and Nelly, and I can tell you that I do not like their version, I don't enjoy their style of music, so if Madilyn and Corey had not made this cover, I would have lost the chance to hear the great message this song gives. So stop bashing this lovely young girl because she 'ruined' a song you like.... They are called covers because a musician sings and puts their touch on someone elses song. It would be boring if covers were exactly sung and played the same as the original.
I didn't give any disrespect for him writing it... I just don't like his style of performing. But this song does have a great message in it and I am glad that Madilyn did a cover of it and I heard it. I hope the people who do like K'naan's music, listen to the messages that his songs contain.... As for you Nubian Girl and others your age.... in about 20 years you will understand my point of view. You will think that the music your children are listening to is terrible.... It is called life.... The music will evolve to another level.
