Thank you so much for making this video! My Fluval Spec Circulation Pump stopped working and I was trying to figure out what to do to get a new one ordered and delivered ASAP because I thought it was broken. I didn’t know it could be taken apart and I can’t believe how dirty it was with algae and calcium deposits from the hard water. I cleaned everything, soaked the parts in hot water and put it back together and it runs great now! I will clean it routinely now that I know it can be taken a part and needs to be cleaned.
Thank you so much! My pump for a fluval spec just stopped working and I knew it was super dirty but I did a deep tank cleaning and watched your video about cleaning the pump and it finally worked!! Thanks again
You totally saved me! Thank you for taking the time to create this video. You saved my son's fish as we're in lockdown & I doubt this would be considered an "essential purchase"
I have that same exact pump! 😂 I saved it from an old petsmart aquarium that I had. I clean my pumps every two months to take out all the nastiness that gets stuck in there. I use a new toothbrush to clean the parts.
My pump for my tank (same as yours) died on me a few days ago and I ended up taking the whole grey backing off and just adding a more durable pump and filter. This video would have saved me a bit of money if my pump would’ve lasted a few more days 😂
Hi I have the same tank two of them actually for two years. Can you add carbon rock filter in that compartment also how can you put new filter in it. Please reply. Thanks
Mandy I hate when things go wrong! I always check on a daily basis to make sure things are going well with the bettas in their tanks! I am sorry to hear of the loss of your betta and the pump not working properly!
I just stumbled upon your channel since I'm an avid aquarist and...well....this is aquarium related content. I just wanted to say I like your videos and there's some really good info you're providing to people here who are new to the hobby or only have moderate experience. More people need to be educated about how to keep fish since it's a great hobby and so rewarding. I also wanted to say (honestly the main reason I commented) that you are incredibly cute and I want to take you to dinner, talk about fish, and profess my love.(blush)
While Bettas are more forgiving of poor water quality, the pump stopping also caused problems with my heater that I had in the back compartment. If this had happened on a warmer night he probably would have been okay.
I would never use submersible pumps. Because they're waterproof sealed, the chance on getting the motor being cooled is higly diminished. Submersible pumps are short-lived pumps. This design is inteded to make the economy go on this horrific cycle. With that, I use overhead pumps (like the ones we'll find on a DYNA 600) instead. The motor is aircooled, so it never overheats. The motor is above the water, but the propeller is submerged. Classic pump construct, but it's sad you won't find many of these in the market anymore. And boy these overhead pumps really last for decades!
Just a PSA you probably shouldn't be using water so hard that you need to use an acid to clean your pump. Distilled water from the grocery store would avoid this issue almost entirely. Mind you this isn't always practical or possible but preventing from clogging in the first place would probably be better. Hard water can also depending on the fish can be quite bad for them. Snails also leech calcium out of the water for there shells, as a possible kinda solution.
Hi i have a new 3.2g topfin bettaflo the one you review before, I have 1 betta in it beet cycled for 6 weeks has live plants dragon stone and a driftwood . I added my betta a week ago and added 2 nerite snails last Saturday. I changed water 25% on Yesterday . All good until I came from work today Wednesday and I found white web like slime looks like something burst. Do you use regular tap water to clean or aquarium water?
Hey, thanks for the video. Do you have any idea which submersible pump to buy on Amazon. I have the same top fin 5 gallon aquarium.
Thanks
Thank you for your help!

Great video and tips, especially the vinegar to clean hard water deposits.
This was a life saver!!
Was there even a replacement found for this pump?? I can't find one either.
I hope you get well I like your videos
Thank you!
Hate it when things go wrong. After this video I’m going to do some pump maintenance.
Hey I like the rambling lol
Thank you 😁 I enjoy rambling, but I know some don't appreciate it and want me to go straight to showing the demonstration. 🤣
That should be something that every aquarist does on a monthly basis. :)
So with this tank(I have the same) we need the water above the filter piece!?
What you should do when you can is buy an emergency back up pump to keep in the drawer just in case. 😊

Bro
I can't remove the metal pipe that hold the fan any tips?
Sorry about your fishy, Mandy:(
what is the name of this pump?
I don't think the betta died because of the pump breaking because they aren't very sensitive to water quality.
While Bettas are more forgiving of poor water quality, the pump stopping also caused problems with my heater that I had in the back compartment. If this had happened on a warmer night he probably would have been okay.

Sorry just saw this. Are you still seeing the white slime in the tank? If so does it look more milk like or string like?

Thank you for your reply
The actual video starts at 2:25. Thank me later
The pumps in these tanks are terrible, I'm here cause mine just failed
