ShartimusPrime Biography:
Inspired by watching boring Transformers action figure reviews, the ShartimusPrime youtube channel was launched in 2008. Engaging the audience with an edgy sense of humor for adult collectors, action figure collecting has never been this fun, and videos are posted daily! Unexpectedly, the channel became more popular for Marvel Legends reviews and Spider-Man, Avengers, and X-Men collection display videos. After a few years, the channel has branched out to review other figure properties aside from Marvel Legends and G1 Transformers Masterpiece. Hot Toys, Star Wars, Diamond Select Toys, DC Collectibles, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Dragon Ball Z, Attack on Titan, Godzilla, Evil Dead, and The Walking Dead toy lines have all been added to the roster of nearly 2,000 video reviews. Japanese import figures from SH Figuarts, Bandai, Figma, Square Enix, and Medicom MAFEX have been favorites as well. More recently, Kotobukiya Statues (including the very sexy Bishoujo line) and NECA Toys have become more prevalent on the channel. Being a big fan of movies such as Spider-Man, Batman, X-Men, Iron Man, Captain America, The Avengers, Evil Dead, Pacific Rim, Aliens, and other films has lead the channel in the direction of also reviewing movies, movie trailers, blu ray releases, and tv shows. News updates for 2016 releases and beyond are also posted. Audience engagement is a big part of this channel, with giveaways and fan mail being read publicly once a week in the PO Box Pick-Up videos. Impressive “Shart-Art” is shared via social media and included in the opening theme song. The audience is also kept up to date with any changes to the channel, along with recent comic book pick-ups, unboxings, and action figure hauls. Stop-motion segments punishing the popular meme of the Big Time Let Down Spider-Man close most of the comparison segments, and are compiled together for guaranteed access to patrons. Lastly, all figure reviews close with a slideshow featuring dynamic poses of the figure inspired by ACBA, with the added bonus of music performed and recorded by ShartimusPrime himself.

I think Todd was describing the cover of Amazing Spider-Man #19 for the Ditko piece - which would be SWEET!
Ahh, I think you’re right! Seems more accurate to what he was describing too. I’d love to see it! Glad you enjoyed the interview too. It’s always an honor doing these.
The youtube crossover we all need.
Todd scares me 😂. Your whole collection back there is in scale and my entire McFarlane DC collection is also in scale. When He talks like this it scares me lol.
Would love to see a Statue of Wolverine with Hulks reflection in his claws , McFarlanes cover-Incredible Hulk #340
I will always respect how transparent Todd is! Super excited for Marvel colab!
As a longtime action figure collector, I think that McFarlane absolutely shines when they make statues instead of action figures. Statues have always been Todd's passion IMO, and it shows in his products. I think McFarlane's action figures are pretty meh for the most part, but their statues are excellent!
I truly agreed! Todd is the Man! 👍
Nah their figures are great, not just now but if you look at some of their late 90s Spawn stuff, they were ahead of the game in terms of figures
Agreed
I agree. McFarlane military was the best.so were the NFL statues
My dad loved his hockey player figures and had quite the collection.
I would love to see Marvel VS. DC two packs.
That thought never even crossed my mind lol but that's an awesome idea hopefully that can be done but legal bs? Idk
Yeah no..
Shart, gotta say this is probably your best interview. You’ve got your approach finely tuned and getting better and better. Great job not just lobbing softballs at Todd, and confidently treading on the topics most needing to be discussed. Bravo
I would buy the whole stock of Spider-Man figures if Todd made it based off of his artwork. Great interview Shart!
🔥Most Impressive you got Todd to consider pinless joints‼️🏁🏁🏁
The Todd McFarlane Spiderman figure that we need above all others is the one that appears in upper left corner of a Marvel comicbook cover. The casting call box; i don’t know the industry term.
the hanging upside down one
I know exactly what you’re talking about. Love that pic too. It’s like you can see him bouncing from the web pull.
I respect Todd and have bought a lot of his stuff over the years. However, after nearly three decades, it never ceases to amaze me how he has a mix of both amazing successes and some serious WTF decisions here and there...but no matter what, every new idea he has comes with this elaborate rationale, like all the times he defended his lack of articulation in the Spawn figs, because it would supposedly ruin the aesthetics of his "figures", even though people begged for more articulation for years, etc. Just a really unique individual who has produced some things I love and also infuriated me at times with some of his choices.
That is a great description
He is marketing to alot of different customers. I dislike that more articulation was added at the expense of detail.
@@EddieTHead2266 Yeah, I wish it was more deliberately selective. A lot of his figs I look at and say, "Okay, why put so much detail into the sculpt only to completely skip out on the paint that would make those details more apparent and purposeful?" and things like that.
@@jimwheeler9840 easy price point.
Mike Deodato Jr is my favorite Wonder Woman artist. Thank you for throwing his name out there!
WOW, man! Phenomenal interview! Way to let us into the mind of McFarlane!
I love ur videos carbon scoring!!!!
🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
@@ShartimusPrime I love your videos too shartimous prime!! You’ve finally knowticed me, meeting you one day is on my list of things I gotta do before death
While I am very unhappy with Hasbro and their prices, quality, and distribution ....
I don't think McFarlane Toys would do a good job with the action figures.
I'm not very happy with the DC Multiverse line.
Any McFarlane Toys Marvel figure is not going to match the Hasbro figures I already have.
It doesn't look like I'll be getting any McFarlane Toys Marvel products at all.
That's too bad.
I wish him well, though.
As an action figure collector, I unfortunately do not have space for statues (Heck, I struggle to make space for the figures!), but I really enjoy Todd's enthusiasm, and wish him all the best with this Licence. 😃
That Spiderman is iconic. I'd love one of those statues.
I'm glad you asked him about making pinless joints. Those are a little bit of an eye sore lately that a lot of companies are starting to go that way.
Todd McFarlane sounds like a reasonable man about getting the job done in producing comic books like a regular 9 to 5 weekday schedule.
I think we will eventually see the mcfarlane spiderman action figure
I'd be getting that immediately.
Really a shame he laughs off scaling as if it's something we dont all desperately want and have been complaining about for years about Todds stuff .
"You got all those figures over there and theyre not in scale so whats the problem"
Trust us todd , we knowwww they aren't. We've been complaining about it for years, but Todd makes toys that he wants to see not the fans, its just a bonus that some people like it too. Always been that way lol
Well he's just a ego maniac he never cares about the consumer
@@dvw7665he’s been pretty transparent about the fact that he makes the things he wants to see and that he thinks his crowd will like. It’s not some insidious secret lmao. He’s had this motto for years and I agree with it completely: if you don’t like the way he does things, just don’t buy them. He seems to be doing just fine without the people who don’t like the way he does things.
Balls and peen
@@DerrickVanderspoon terrible attitude
I personally don't enjoy comic books where the cover and interior art are done by different people.
It should all be consistent throughout.
This is why Todd is awesome!
Never got too big for the fans, he's still a fan
Todd McFarlane does have a very good point about the statues not needing to be all in the same scale.
Statues don't all need to be lined up together.
Actually, it might be better if the statues were not all lined up together.
It's awesome that he does acknowledge that articulated action figures should all be the same scale.
Todd is so cool and open with the fans. Great interview, Shartimus!
Oh boy yeah another Todd interview love these
WE CAN FINALLY GET A GOOD MCFARLANE VENOM FIGURE/ STATUE!!!!!!!!
they’re making a mcfarlane venom marvel legend walmart exclusive $25
Scale would be really important for a group of characters that would be sold separately, but meant to go together like the Fantastic Four.
We need an official Mcfarlane Spiderman action figure from Hasbro and Mcfarlane toys
I hope he makes a McFarlane Spider-Man action figure
What's up Shartimus? I'm a Fan and Todd McFarlane is the Man! I love his work and everything that he does. No Shadow a Doubt, his one of the Best Artist ever, on this Earth. And a True Modern Day Michelangelo of our time! 🤩🤩🤩👍👍
Cool!
Nice interview.
It's great to hear that Todd McFarlane wants to produce good quality products for the customers.
It's also great that he listened to some constructive feedback and appears to be serious about making improvements.
The crouching Spidey over a huge web full of spiders (same pose as Spawn #8) is a must
I appeciate Todd's forward thinking for what the customers do with his products and their collections.
What an awesome interview! I can’t wait to add some McFarlane Spideys to my shelf!
I wonder how’s the Spawn movie & animated series coming along. Haven’t heard updates of that in ages.
I never had ANY intention on getting these……even though they look so cool so far…..but him mentioning them doing X-Men 1 Jim Lee cover……..I’m getting my first STATUE lol
Todd's reference to Adam Hughes' at 25:07 is a good example. He's only contributed interior pages to 8 Marvel comics beginning with X-Men Annual #1 ("The Slaves of Destiny") which went on sale March 3rd, 1992. His most recent story credit appeared in Fantastic Four Anniversary Tribute #1 ("Bedlam at the Baxter Building") on November 17th, 2021. However, Adam Hughes' name is associated with precisely 99 Marvel covers not counting anything from the Icon imprint.
You two are awesome. Super excited for this toy line!
Love me some Mcfarlane Toys. Can’t wait to see what the first series looks like at the SDCC. Thanks Shartimus for sharing your interview with Todd. I liked what I heard.
I know they r considered statues but McFarlane military was the best. I wish he would do military figs again .
Good Interview and Congrats to McFarlane! I was kinda hoping to see actual figures from McFarlane Toys and Marvel to be honest! 🤔
Me too! Hopefully one day 😊
i hope we get a erik larsen spider-man, i feel he is really under apreaciated by the fandom , specially coming on the heels of todd, and never once represented in figures or figurines
dont care for statues, i want a mcfarlene spider-man and venom, if it has to be from his company whatever, just make it scale with mafex/legends please.......
Ouuuuu McFarlane stay winning :) Marvel Legends fans and McFarlane DC Multiverse haters gonna cryyyyyyy :D I drink your tears.
When I was a kid, alwyas want a spiderman make by Todd macfarlane toys because the figures of spwan were chingonas.
Having figures posed in the packaging is nice, but somethings that seems to warp the figures and cause problems for the figures.
I'd rather have the figures in a simple standard pose in the package that keeps the figure in good condition.
We want the figures to be in good shape when we take them out of the package and play around with them.
The Spiderman ones will be iconic, not sure about all the others
Tod's like hey whats the coolest thing we could make??? A fucken statue
A comic book page has different panels with different scales. A shelf with different sized statues could be great. Also, people have work spaces and desks. A smaller scaled Spidey statue would look dope!
Good call on the Mike Deodato Jr. shout-out, Shart. I just started reading his 90s Elektra run and omg the noir is so good.
And when you talked about covers being a tease for more great things happen in the book-- unfortunately I immediately thought of the recent Robin: Tim Drake series where the beautiful covers (and variants!) were betrayed by just how goofy and childish the interiors were.
And OMG you got him to say he'll look into pinless joints. Legendary, bro.
McFarlanes figures may not have the best articulation but there detail is always really good
Legends!! Many thanks to you both 👊👍
The Super Powers line of figures and vehicle is fun.
Hopefully that line will continue.
Those statues look awesome
Also those moments of nostalgia go 2 ways doubling down towards nostalgia...or those who want growth and better expectations!!!!!
Thank you guys for the interview and sharing 🎉 much appreciated 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
It's understandable that McFarlane Toys needs to work with the retailers and give them what they want.
The retailers, however, need to understand that they need to give the customers what they want.
The customers are not going to tolerate ridiculous high prices, low wuality, and poor distribution.
Whoever is causeing the problem (retailers and/or manufacturers) had better get their act together very fast!
15:13 end of the story folks
RE Marvel covers / interior art. Dont forget Marvel Fanfare and single page pin ups, too. Jim Lee Silver Surfer, John Byrne Hulk, Kent Williams Wolverine, etc.
Todds lore is always a treat
I knew you were gonna say jada I was thinking the same thing Shartimus
Great interview, Shartimus. Todd was awfully gracious towards Liefeld, all things considered.
Hey RUSS, WILL TODD MCFARLAND EVER HAVE THE TMNT MEETS BATMAN IN THE DC MULTIVERSE PLAYMATES IN THE TOY LINE OF BATMAN BEYOND FIGURES I SAW IT ON THE RUclips CLIP WERE THE NINJA TURTLES MEETS BATMAN AND DEFEATED THE THE FOOTCLAN AND MASTER SHREDDER IN TMNT BATMAN BEYOND ANIME SERIES BUT IM WAITING IF HES GONNA DO THE TMNT BATMAN BEYOND MULTIVERSE DC PLAYMATS LINE MULTIVERSE?
Todd Mcfarlane is a good salesman
Come on who in their right mind thought Todd would sell a Spiderman next to Batman in the toy aisle.
I’d love to see an Otto in his white suit in this line.
I need the Wolverine from Spider-Man #10 (1990). That would be sick!
Some people might like a single character in many, many different forms and scales.
Others prefer a large number or related characters all in the same scale.
most prefer*
I like my figures to be the same scale especially if they are from the same line. I don't display any figure by itself they are all displayed with the rest of the line.
Can’t wait to see those mini statues!
Todd McFarlane The artist who could
That comment from Todd checks out 13:24
Can he give his blessing for Hasbro to make a Legends McFarlane spider-man for mass retail that be sweet.
imagine a mcfarlane style Deadpool, and a marvel legends style Batman
I’m glad he’s not just mining from past cover art, even though I’m sure everyone would be perfectly fine with that. Seems like this is a dream project of sorts for him. Not a fan of every decision he’s made but I’m sure glad Todd got the IP to fulfill this one. A real full circle moment and I’ll definitely buy a handful of these
I love how Todd is pretending his statues are action figures. Like nope, not even close.
He didn’t say “action figures” though. He said figures. “Figures” is a big umbrella term that covers a lot of stuff. Figurines don’t move, but they’re still under the umbrella of figures not statues. So are these.
Yes, but figures implies movement. He should just call them statues.
@@TokuAndAnimationNewsNetwork something being labeled a figure doesn’t imply movement. The label of ACTION figures implies movement. Funko pops are considered figures even though they have no articulation other than a head swivel.
I see he's like me the pinless joints was dead last in his thought process lol, I can't stand pinless joints because they warp faster than other figs it makes me sick
I don't get the fuss over painless either 🤔
@@gregarcher8177 for most it's because they do look better but to me toys are toys idk at all lol I rather the paint apps be spot on.
pinless is the standard, its obkectively better unless you are a customiser, and even they have figured it out
@@bechillin1234 I feel ya but in the long run they tend to get looser then pins they do look great but I'm good either way
By the way, good call on the painless question! Specially mentioning the Jada toys SF line!
We need a marvel multiverse to cross over with the DC multiverse.
Any word on the Kickstarter Medieval Spawn? Would love it if Todd would just get that one out of the way. Was really looking forward to that one.
new todd mcfarlene art figs....my TYPE(god i hope they make figs that move)
He plainly said his contract isnt for figures because Hasbro has it and its such a good relationship he can only do statues, for all those asking about figures. I wish it were different.
Not into statues, I'm into action figures. But I'm sure McFarlane will make awesome statues, its the articulation that has given him some trouble.
Maaannnnnn… if it don’t move it’s a STATUE!!
Hope he revisits some characters from Image. Cyberforce, wildcats, youngblood, pitt, etc.
I just hope he isn't contractually bound to also make MCU characters. If he is, he may have the same problems that Marvel Legends has experienced with devoting valuable resources to less desirable characters.
Uncle Toddy! 👍
I was literally contremplating talking myself into thinking I might like these until Todd literally said they may not all be in scale with eachother........
Hyped
I was kinda hoping that in this collaboration McFarlane would be making a hulkbuster but Hasbro just announced theirs so unfortunately that's not good to happen
I get you have a set of questions you have to ask within his time. But when you take the time to ask other questions I know it's hard to come up on the fly with something so you trying to think of questions that you want to ask so you may not always have the questions that we want to know with that being said.
One thing that you should ask when you see him at San Diego Comic-Con is improving the articulation turn the torso bend forward this way the characters can crouch or whatever more realistically.
Man, this is so COOL.
I would love to see the punisher and jigsaw with McFarlane version. I hope he gives guns to the punisher.
Figures within the same toy line showed be properly scaled with one another. Statues, whatever, to a point. Todd has always been better at inaction figures.
Did you get read the riot act by his people prior to doing this due to the last time you interviewed him?
For the DC Multiverse line of action figures we need:
Legion of Super Heroes
More villains and bad guys
L.E.G.I.O.N. characters (Some of these characters were from Todd McFarlane's first DC Comics published work in the Invasion! mini series.)
Metal Men
More of the less well known characters.
Oh My gosh The thing I hope gets some love! - Luke
Fingers crossed for ASM 39
Todd congrats because you make a great spiderman
Are they only making statues or are they going to make figures too
15:51 Todd isn't wrong here. If I'm buying a Spider-Man, if it's cool, it's a done deal. In terms of thease new figures coming do them however best they can! Congrats, Todd! - Luke
If you ever wonder why some robins are taller than some Batmans with his figures just watch this video 😂😂
